MacBook :: Screen Looking Foggy Or Hazy / Looks Prominent When Computer Is Off
Apr 15, 2009
I have a Blackbook that is about a year old. Today, when I was about to turn it on, I noticed that about half the screen has a "foggy" or "hazy" look to it - you can't really tell when the computer is on, but when it's off there's a large area that's affected. Does anyone have any idea what this is? I only clean the screen with a damp microfiber cloth - no chemicals - and when I wiped it last Sunday I frankly did not notice any haziness (though maybe I wasn't paying attention). If it doesn't go away, would something like this be covered by Applecare? (Even if it doesn't affect the computer when it is turned on I am anal about these kinds of things. Plus I'm worried - and I've never had to deal with Apple support before.)

Alu 24" 2.4ghz when they first came out with aluminum, got it at the store. since august 07 My imac had a small yellow tint, i noticed, when i got it and it was not worth anyhting screaming about, i also noticed it had bleeding issues ath the bottom and sides. I wanted to return it or trade but i was convinced out of it.
Now i noticed that from left to right their is a prominent yellow tint streaking it's way across and fading around the half way point. It is irritating and sad to see this display on this mac was ok, at first but it is geting slightly worse.I have apple care, can i trade this/replace it at an applestore, or would they need to fix it?

I hear the computer physically turn on, but a blank screen remains. I recently purchased a new battery for the computer for the battery status read replace soon about a week ago. I sense that maybe there is a shortage in the wiring that connects what shows on the screen to the computer, but I'm not completely sure.

I tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

Computer starts (keyboard lit, music plays, caps lock light on), but no screen. I need to open and close 2 - 30 times before the screen will turn on. Once on, the computer works perfectly. I've tried PRAM and safemode reset.

I recently spilled a small amount of water on my macbook pro and now the screen doesnt work. The computer starts up and makes sound so I took it into an apple store. They told me there was water damage and the logic board was broke so it would be 600 to fix it. I couldnt believe it. I plugged my computer into a tv threw the mini display port and everything works fine. My question is does the logic board really need replaced? Where can I get this fixed the cheapest or should I just sell it for parts? If so where and how much should I look to get?

I have an older generation Macbook Pro (the all-silver two-part body style that came out before the current Macbook Pro) that I got approximately two years ago. I do use it quite heavily but have always taken good care of it.
About a week ago, I was using it as normal, then put it into sleep mode and went away from it for an hour. When I came back to it and opened it back up, there was nothing. I tried closing it and re-opening it, still nothing. I did a hard shut-down by pressing the power button until the power light went off, and then restarted it. Even though the computer turned on and the power light lit up, the screen remained black, and the Apple symbol on the lid remained unlit.
I called technical support and they ran me through a list of fixes including holding several keys down and turning on the computer, etc. None of them did anything to the computer as far as I was able to tell. I was not getting any sound, either--whether from having my computer muted or from the computer not working, I'm not sure.
I then tried putting the MBP into Target Disk Mode by connecting it to my sister's MB--no response. Still, the screen remained black on the MBP and no icon for the MBP Disk appeared on the MB. Even though the computer powers up, runs the fan and everything, it appears to be dead for all intents and purposes.
I have two main questions here:
1) What is going on here? Is it as simple as a screen problem, or has my motherboard gone? This is the very first problem I've ever had with my MBP; nothing has led up to this.
2) Is there any chance that my files are safe? I'm currently on vacation and backed up my files prior to leaving, but have done a lot of work since being on the trip and am not too keen to lose what I've done.

My laptop was dead then I restarted it. I hear the fan going and the the CAPS LOCK light comes on. But the screen is black. About a minute later the screen turns on and has a message that asks me to pick a language. then asks me what type of problem I am having with using my password. (Which I am not having). So I reset my password then it says itll restart. Only to do it again. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 15inch.

My wife is having an issue with her Macbook. The screen works great, when it comes on. However, 80% of the time, when she opens the laptop, she has to jiggle the screen back and forth to get it to come on. Sometimes it takes several minutes.
Any idea what that could be and what the solution would be? Could it just be a loose connection somewhere?

I have a 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro, one of the Santa Rosa models with the 8600M GT. It's run perfectly for nearly two years - up until about two weeks ago. Since then, it's experienced three pretty drastic system-wide crashes. Each time, the screen flashes white three times and freezes, requiring a hard reset - the mouse still moves, but the computer doesn't recognize any input. Curiously, each time I've reset, the computer has had an instant kernel panic at the white boot screen with the Apple logo, requiring another hard reset. After this it's booted fine.
Each time I've had a reasonable amount of stuff running - Safari with, say, 15 tabs, Quicksilver, Ableton Live 8, Newsfire, iTunes, iCal - but nothing excessive. I can't really make head or tail of the panic logs, but each of them seem similar, and all mention kernel extensions com.apple.NVDAResman and com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily repeatedly. I've also had a couple other occasions where vertical lines have flashed down the screen momentarily. Am I right in thinking this is all most likely related to the graphics card starting to die?

this has happened a few times in recent weeks. I lock the screen on my MBP (mid 2009) and go do something for a few minutes. When I come back, the computer won't come back on. I have to hold down the power button for ~10 seconds and shut the computer down hard and then power it back on. What the heck is going on here?

I was BBMing while trying to plug in my headphones with my pheripherals, and I accidentally pushed it (not very hard) into the USB port. The tip of the headphone jack connected with the little connector ball at the bottom of the USB port. The screen went black and I instantly hit the power button on instinct, so I don't know if it shut off. Did I do something very bad, or is that normal? I'm not sure if that's even considered an electric shock or what.

Spilled a vanilla latte all over it about 3 weeks ago. Screen immediately screwed up (lighting issues, pixels....the whole works). Apple wanted $800 flat to "begin" to fix it. If the logic board had one drop of liquid on it, it'd jump to $1240. Sent it to MacService.com, and got the screen replaced and the whole computer diagnosed - with shipping included - for $325. Arrived today. Looks PERFECT. Kudos to that company. I'm really impressed.

I have a ibook G4 that's been randomly shutting down. It started doing this maybe about a month ago but it's started getting really bad lately. At first it would shut down if I unplugged the adapter. Not every time I unplugged it, but probably about 50% of the time. When I press the battery button all of the green lights would light up. About half of the time it will start up again if I just hit the power button but the half of the time I have to reset the pRAM. Lately this same thing has been happening except when the computer is still plugged in. And when in say shutting down I mean essentially instantaneously. One second it's on and then the screen goes black and it makes that turning off noise. Not a chime, but like all the fans and hardware are coming to a stop.

I'm having a terrible issue with my MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo A1226 (not unibody). All of a sudden, the screen began flashing violently, terribly violently. And as soon as it happened, the entire computer froze up. After forcing it to shut down and powering back up, it cannot boot past the gray restart screen.
