Is there an easy and relatively inexpensive way to use the tv screen to watch movies from a macbook 10.6.8? The only outputs I have are 2 usb, an ethernet, and one that I can't identify that's right next to the ethernet.

I've just purchased a new macbook air 11.6 in and when watching movies (not in ful screen) the screen dims, Im assuming because of inactivity with keyboard, etc. I don't like to watch all movies in full screen, so how do I change the settings to allow for longer 'inactive' times? Meaning, I don't want the screen to dim after only 5 minutes.

If I were to connect a Mac Pro to a TV via the DVI output and using a DVI to HDMI cable, could I still work on the computer at the same time while the movie is being played on the TV. I want to rip my whole DVD collection to the HDD.
I know that I could do this with AppleTV but I want to be able to go directly from the Mac to the TV and be able to play movies in 1080 vs. 720.
Also, am I right to assume that the video quality would be the same through the Mac as opposed to a DVD player?

I have been experiencing crashes while playing games and watching a few movies on my MBpro 15" Mid-2010 i5 Gt330m. It will just lock up all of a sudden and then play a continuous sound loop with a black screen. I then have to force shut it down, hold the power key down the first time-nothing....then try a second time to hold it down to shut it off and then it goes off.
Tried the update recommended by TS4088 and its still doing it. I have 10+ panic reports in the last few weeks. Can't play SC2 for more than 5-10 minutes. Took it to the Apple Store today and they ran a check and of course everything comes up fine. I can get it to crash every time by playing sc2 about 5 minutes in, always on minimum settings.

Is this normal? When watching a 1080p movie on my mbp, in order for it to play smoothly with no dropped frames etc, I have to close everything except for VLC. I have to close mail, itunes, I mean everything except for VLC. Is this normal? otherwise I will get many dropped frames every 5 min or so.

I purchased a refurbished, original MBA 1.8 GHz and it is great.The only issue is that when I watch videos on hulu, youtube, etc, the computer struggles and gets choppy. This happens most but not all of the time. I think this also occurs more often when I have my external monitor hooked up as well.
I want to make sure that there isn't something wrong with the machine. It was purchased as a secondary computer and understand that it is not supposed to be a workhorse - but I would still like to watch videos uninterrupted.

I recently had to erase and install Leopard. I then restored everything from my time-machine backup. The weird thing is, before, when watching streaming videos from the internet, the screen stayed at the same brightness, regardless of whether there was any mouse movement, or touching the keyboard, or anything. Now, if I don't do anything, the computer dims the screen, as if i wasn't watching a video.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi've noticed for a while now that everytime i watch videos on my macbook pro, using vlc player, sometimes the video picture would stop, and or stutter, if it would stop, the audio would go on, but the video remains stop, after a few seconds, before the video would resume, the video would be distort or scrambled for a few seconds before it would come back to normal, it had been happening for some time now, i thought it was just the software, so i tried another player, the mplayer for mac, and it still would stop at random times. but last night, after stuttering for every 10 minutes while watching the video, the screen on my macbook pro freezed. i cannot do anything, but my mouse is movable, and the caps lock on the keyboard still lights, but i cannot do anything but to do a hard reset, it is the first time that has happened to me, the screen freezing, and i don't know if it has anything to do with the stuttering of the video.

was wondering if when your watching a youtube video or anything that makes the nvidia 330m kick in do you experience a lag when hitting the full screen button? I have the graphics switcher/indicator program installed and whenever I go to full screen it goes from intel to nvidia and there is a good 1-2 second delay from clicking the button to going to full screen. If I force 330m to be on at all times the lag goes away. This seem normal? You would think Apple would have ironed out this kink. It makes my computer go from feeling snappy to slow when my netbook can full screen faster.

What I'm wondering about are these lines that are appearing/disappearing on the screen. I think it may be a sign that the video card is going out. The lines are horizontal bands that appear often when I'm watching video. Occasionally they'll appear while scrolling or loading a webpage. They're usually quite thin, although it does appear to be getting worse. Does anyone know what this would be? Is it safe to assume a dead logic board is in my future? I videotaped it occurring here, in case you're interested (17 sec).
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs the headline says the right half of the screen turns black when watching video content in iTunes on full screen. I can see the whole picture when moving the mouse a little but as soon as the navigation bar disappears the right half of the picture disappears too. It does not matter what source it is. Both podcasts and movies work (or do not work) the same.
The problem doesn't occur for other player (VLC, XBMC etc.).
I have the latest OS (10.9.4) and iTunes (11.4). The computer is MBP 13-inch retina, late 2012 if it matters.

I have a Samsung 2033SW hooked up to my mac and whenever I play video full-screen on on screen (either the laptop or the samsung), the other screen blacks out. This happens whether I use VLC, RealPlayer or Quicktime. How do I set it up so that I can play full-screen video on one and still be able to use the other screen for other stuff?
I'm pretty sure it's not because there aren't enough resources because I can still play "fit-to-screen" on one screen and still have access to the other screen.
Since nothing was on my calendar for tonight I decided to rent the movie Miss March and play it on my one week old uMBP 13'. It started off well and an hour into the movie, the screen just froze. Nothing working out, I restarted my macbook the hard way, and it did to me another time again. I had to watch the movie in a normal window not for itunes to crash.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a last gen. white macbook. I was watching a youtube video today and firefox shut down. When it restarted it shutdown again. I decided to restart my computer. When it was restarting, a message popped up saying I needed to restart by holding down the power button. After pushing the power button the screen went black. I then pushed the power button again and my computer made this horrible beeping noise until I pressed the power button again. In doing this process more than once the mac start up "chord Bing" happened over and over until I pressed the power button. I got the comp turned off and let it sit for an hour or so. It started up fine. I downloaded google chrome and when trying to change some settings the "restart your comp by holding down the power button" message came up. When restarting the crazy beep came back. Now everything seems fine but while typing the comp made the noise like it wants to eject a cd.

im a new member and im experiencing problems with my macbook manufactured in 2007. So today i was watching a film on my macbook which is connected to my HDTV and while watching the movie on the TV the screen on the macbook went black. I thought this was unusual so i went to move the cursor and press any keys and nothing happened. I turned the macbook off and a white screen came up for a sec and then the same black scree. I tried resetting the PRAM and nothing. I used a flashlight to see if i would see a faint desktop in the display to see if it was the inverted or back light, but there was nothing. The macbook responds perfectly, i connected it again to the TV and i can use it through that screen, but the display on the macbook is still black. I would highly appreciate it if you guys would be able to diagnose anything based on the symptoms i just described,
View 3 Replies View Relatedtoday, i was testing the new mlb.tv player on my computer (played well once i ran it on firefox 3, safari still has issues here) and it had an option to go fullscreen on my screen and put it on my external monitor. the problem is that every time i expanded it to full screen on the external, if i were to click anything on the internal screen, the screen on the external reverts to a small screen. is there anything in the settings that i'm missing so that i can keep the full screen up even while i'm surfing the net on my internal?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have hundreds of .avi movies on my computer and play them through vlc. I would like to put them in itunes to organize them but handbraking them would take years, and I have them on an external drive and putting them in itunes would add them to my computer's hd.
I just want to organize all my movies (mp4's, .avi's, etc..) even if it means just seeing a poster of each in a thumbnail instead of just seeing a title with the same .avi icon. I would love to change a thumbnail in finder to a movie poster but I don't think it is possible.
I have seen apps like yFlicks and Movie Jukebox but they don't play .avi's and they aren't what I'm looking for.
