My wife is having an issue with her Macbook. The screen works great, when it comes on. However, 80% of the time, when she opens the laptop, she has to jiggle the screen back and forth to get it to come on. Sometimes it takes several minutes.
Any idea what that could be and what the solution would be? Could it just be a loose connection somewhere?
When I open my macbook, the screen remains black (as though it's in sleep mode). Adjusting the brightness always fixes this problem, but this is a temporary fix. The brightness is not at zero when I adjust it after opening, often I need to dim the screen to reactivate it.
This problem is not: related to *clamshell mode*related to unintentionally dimming the screen. related to any of the settings in the Energy Saving panel in system preferences
Extra info: The computer seems as though it doesn't actually enter sleep mode when I close the computer.I don't think there are any processes running that would prevent sleep mode. I really just want the computer to go to sleep properly when I close the screen and more importantly, that it wake-up when opened, or at least when a button is pushed aside from the brightness buttons.

Tried to restart didn't work. Light is on, but nothing makes noise or anyhting. Been charging it for hours so it has power. Tested the chord on my ther computer and it worked

I'm trying to use iCloud and the instructions tell me to go to the Apple icon>system preferences>iCloud. This does not appear in my preferences. MobileMe does but says it's no longer available and to use iCloud. This is one big circle that gets me nowhere.

I hear the computer physically turn on, but a blank screen remains. I recently purchased a new battery for the computer for the battery status read replace soon about a week ago. I sense that maybe there is a shortage in the wiring that connects what shows on the screen to the computer, but I'm not completely sure.

When I opened my mac book pro's screen up, I noticed that when i let go of it it physically wiggled. It eventually slowed down and stop but now, even as I am typing it is slightly wiggling back and forth. Does this always happen or did something go wrong in the hinge?

Late Model 2010 Macbook pro, opening screen from closed position allows the screen to turn on as normal, but two seconds later, goes to complete black. Temporary fix includes hitting F1 to lower brightenss (if the screen was at full brightness) or F1 or F2 (if screen was not at full brightness) changing this brightness level brings back screen to full brightness -1. this problem seems to be pretty prevelent and related to the nvidia card ro something simialr. are there any known fixes? will apple acknowlege this. this just started happening to me a week or so ago but i've seen articles are far back as early 2011 with the same symptoms.

I have just purchased a set of logitech x-530 speakers to go with my 2010 MBP. It was a bit of a rushed buy without much research and as such I have realised that the computer doesn't seem to have the appropriate soundcard to produce 5.1 sound (is this correct). Every time I go to click a link, or open a new Safari window, nothing seems to happen. No window, links don't seem to work, though they change color as if activated. Did some searching, found that the windows are opening just fine, but opening on a duplicate screen somewhere where I can't see them. Figured a simple restart would fix this, and it did--for about 3 windows. Now it's right back to the same thing. What's the fix? All software/updates are installed/current.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend has a 1st gen Macbook Pro (the model just before the unibody) which I offered to upgrade the hard drive in after he was complaining he didn't have enough space. I successfully did this to mine last year so I didn't think I would have any issues doing it again.
It was all fine until I put it all back together again and fired it up, and now the screen remains blank. I can hear the hard drive whirring away and the CD drive spinning when I put the installation disk in (which now I can't get out) but nothing seems to be working. I thought it might have something to do with the new hard drive I tried to install so I swapped it back out for the old one and I still have the same problem.
I was very careful dismantling it (and have done it many times before) and I can't see anything obvious internally that would be causing this problem. Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this? It's bad enough this is happening but it's even worse that it isn't my computer that it's happening to.
itunes keeps opening on my computer. i am quitting. not just hitting the red button. and also there isn't a cd in my computer or anything. have restarted. i will quit and then with in 2 mins it will have reopened.. its getting kinda annoying. because i have been trying to figure it out for days.

Over the past day or so it has develeoped a problem where upon opening it, the screen will come on for a moment, then go dark. Nothing will respond - it's unclear whether it's completely off or it's like the brightness is turned all the way down and I can't turn it back up. I have to force shut down with the power button, then turn it back on again. Typically once I log in nothing will load, so I have to force shutdown and start up again, at which point I'll get a dialog saying "You shut down your computer because of a problem. Would you like to reopen applications," or something to that effect. I choose no, and everything is back to normal (at least until I take a chance with closing it and opening it back up again).

My 85yr old mum has a macbook pro and I am trying to assist her as she has a crazy problem whereby when Mail is opened...ALL emails ever recieved open in quick succession until all 500 are sitting open in a pile on the screen! It may be she has inadvertently changed a setting but I can't work out what it is!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my MacBook (aluminum) for 6 days, and all of a sudden i go to plug it in to charge (10% left) and the led on the magsafe doesn't come on and the computer doesn't recorgnize the charger (even in system profiler).
upon closer inspection i noticed the LED is on on the magsafe, it is just a very faint shade of green.I have tried a charger from a different MacBook but no luck. And i have also tried my charger and a different macbook and it charged it just fine.. so it's probably not my charger.
Any ideas?? i know i can go get it replaced.. but i would really like to not have to take a 45 minute drive to the apple store if i can avoid it.. (unless this problem is serious and should be replaced) also, if i get a replacement is it possible for them to just swap my HDD with the new one?
i don't know whether i should turn my firewall on? it doesn't hurt so i think i should but want confirmation does it restrict me doing anything or slow my mbp down?

After using my MacBook Pro I close the laptop and it goes to sleep. Later when I return to it and open it, sometimes it can't find the network. The computer is able to see that I have an Apple Network available, but it won't connect.Sometimes when I try to connect, it gives me a timeout. How I fix it is to walk over to the router and unplug it and plug it back in. After I get the green light again, I go to the Apple Network and it works.

I tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

From time to time, Safari freezes my computer for a time between a few seconds up to about 15 seconds, when I open a new tab with "CMD+T" or a new window with "CMD+N". As the whole computer freezes during this time, it is pretty annoying.

The problem seemed to be resolved by typing /sbin/fsck/ -fy after pressing Apple + S after powering up. All seemed to be working fine except EyeTV wouldn't load/
I assumed it was the usb stick that caused it as the light wouldn't even appear and have purchased a new version. Receiving it i still seem to be having the same problem. Most times it crashes with only the icon bouncing in the dock then disappearing. Although i did manage to load it once and get through the eyetv setup stages with a live picture in the background although it then crashed after i closed the setup window and now can't get anywhere again

Another point is that i can't seem to reset permissions in disk utility. It starts and comes up saying estimated time less than a minute but then freezes
Just wondered what i should do as it seems to be a fault with the imac now and i really haven't got a clue how to get it going (if it's even possible).
Here is my problem, iTunes does not open for me. It bounces for a while, and stops bouncing, but does not open. I open the Force Quit window, and it says iTunes is open, even though iTunes does not have a shining circle next to it. I force quit it, and after about 5 minutes, iTunes is gone from the Force Quit window. I tried removing the preferences and receipts for iTunes, reinstalling iTunes, repairing permissions, and repairing my hard drive, but nothing seems to work. iTunes does work on a different account on my computer, so the problem must be with my account.
I am using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.1.1.
I just bought a 15-inch MacBook Pro with the 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel i7 Processor and the non-glare LED screen. I'm really impressed with the computer overall, which I purcahsed mostly with the intent of using for light-moderate video editing. Â
Ironically, whenever I open iMovie or iPhoto, the screen does this funny thing where it looks like it's interlacing only half of the full screen image and has a funny tint to it. Is there anything that I can do to prevent this from happening? It happens with and without the power adapter plugged it.
