Software :: Mozilla Addressing Speed With Latest Firefox 3.0 Builds
Dec 20, 2007
Mozilla seems to be acknowledging speed issues in its Firefox web browser by adopting an updated rendering engine and architectural improvements that have significantly improved speed in the latest Firefox 3.0 beta. The Firefox 2.0 browser has been known to be one of the most sluggish browsers available, a fact that other companies such as Apple have highlighted in speed comparison tests. Mozilla also claims to have fixed more than 300 memory leaks. Full release notes available at:

the Firefox addons on Mozilla's website work on OSX when using Firefox? I just wanted to make sure since I like using all of the apps on my firefox configuration and was thinking about buying a mac. I know a lot of 3rd party apps that aren't specifically made for Mac at times will not work

I just updated my mozilla firefox to the new version and it deleted all of my bookmarks. I didn't think it was a big deal because I could just re add them. When I restarted the application after re adding all of them they just deleted again. I deleted firefox and re downloaded it but it still keeps deleting my bookmarks when I restart it.

So basically when I'm on an article or website ESPECIALLY AMAZON.COM (I use Amazon almost everyday) the annoying blue hyperlinks show up and when I scroll past them the show ads. How do I get rid of them??? Also, on Amazon.com on Firefox mainly, some type of malware changes the layout of Amazon to black and orange and puts boxes around everything!!! Why is Apple not addressing the issue of the Flashback Trojan? It is a tad disconcerting to have to rely on third-party advice, much of which seems rather iffy.
I am quite sure that most Apple customers are waiting for some sort of Official response and clear directives as to how to a) figure out whether ones computer has been hit by the virus, and b) how to safely address it.

I'm wondering if someone with the latest Time Capsule (announced last week) can post the results of copying a large file (such as your iPhoto library or equivalent - ideally over 500MB) from the HD on your Mac to the HD on the TC over GigE.
Please report the time in seconds for the copy to complete and the size of the file. I'd like to understand if they changed the QoS on transfers to the TC HD.

The next security and maintenance release for Apple's Leopard operating system could arrive sooner than later if the company maintains its current cadence, which has seen two successive pre-release builds land in the hands of developers in just five days. On the heels of the first external test build labeled Mac OS X 10.5.3 build 9D10 and released privately late last week, the Mac maker on Tuesday followed up with build 9D11, which adds nearly 20 more fixes and code corrections, bringing the new total expected with software's release to nearly 100. Among the most recent improvements, according to people familiar with the ongoing testing process, are fixes to AirPort connection issues and problems with the MacBook Air's sleep functionality. Other fresh fixes target Time Machine, Spaces layering and preferences, graphics corruption, display issues within Mail.app, Back to My Mac communication issues, and Automator quirks when interacting with Mail.app.
As was the case with Friday's pre-release distribution, Apple reportedly asked that its developer community focus their ongoing testing efforts on two dozen core system components. These include, but are not limited to, AirPort, AppleScript, Audio, Dashboard, Directory Services, Dock, DVD Player, Finder, Graphics, Installer, Printing, and VoiceOver. Mac OS X 10.5.3 Update, which currently weighs in at a hefty 410+ MB in Delta form and 530+ MB in Combo form, will mark the third update to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard since the software made its official debut in late October. While those people familiar with the ongoing testing process have been unable to provide a target release date, it's presume the update is being groomed for distribution sometime in April or May. I've accessed my Windows 7 partition but would now like to branch back into Linux territory. I was hoping to hear from your experiences, tips & tricks, etc. with virtual machines, both with Windows 7 and other OSes through VMWare Fusion. Even though I have 4 GB of RAM, should I utilize a 64 bit VM or is it worthless since the VM isn't given enough? Which Linux builds will give me the most drivers and performance otb?

This G4 was upgraded to OS 10.1.5 and for some long time was quite happy to search the net using Mozilla 1.0.7 However it now frequently crashes. Is this because that version of Mozilla is no longer stable? Can a later version or even Safari be installed on this computer? Is it possible to upgrade the computer to OS 10.4 + so that later browsers can be used.

I've had a lot of problems in the past with the generic OS X Mail app. I've been unable to send, or receive, or both. I've tried just about every combination of ports, settings, etc., suggested to me on the Apple Discussions site. But all to no avail. So, I've finally ditched OS X Mail and installed Mozilla's Thunderbird. Now, using identical settings to those tried in OS X Mail, I can send, receive, and do just about anything I like. Except. Thunderbird will not import my Address Book! My Address Book is the standard Mac OS X Address Book. I have tried saving v-cards, saving the whole book, etc, but when I try to import to Thunderbird, I just get a bunch of blank v-cards or nothing at all. Step by step guide please. I'm sure this must be both possible and easy. I must just be missing some single vital step.

i have already under firefox preference/advanced checked and ok the Firefox being the default browser many times. My objective is to make sure that whenever i restart or boot up the Mac, the Firefox icon would appear automatically on the desktop side bar to enable one to simple click on it to launch the Mozilla browser. Right now every time i restart the Mac i don't see the firefox icon on the side bar and has therefore to go into the HD to find the download and start the application firefox again.

I have had my macbook pro 13" for 3 weeks. The only significant amount of data storage I have on the computer is 2919 photos in iphoto. The only application I have downloaded is pages. I tried to download Mozilla Firefox because my facebook looked strange in safari. My wall page looked great but all subsequent pages look like I'm viewing them on an older version of blackberry.
Question #1. When I attempted to download firefox, a window stated it was unable because of insufficient disk space. I don't understand how this is possible (please see above).
Question #2. Why does facebook look strange now. I remember it working seamlessly when I first purchased the computer and only noticed the problem today. I log in every couple days.
