View 3 RepliesHas anyone else noticed that Safari is painfully slow the last few weeks? Mostly the problems are with gmail and facebook, but all sites are slower than Firefox. With both gmail and facebook, I can login fine, but when I click on something (a mail message, a person, a picture), it times out.
I've tried resetting safari several times to no luck. Firefox works fine. I'm having the same issues on my mac mini as well as my MBP. Both have 4GB Ram.
I have a mid 2011 iMac, OS X 10.9.4 and i recently installed maverick.
For some reason,using both Safari and Firefox, it can't connect to most websites and if it does the pages don't fully load( pictures and videos won't load) but my network works fine with other device like my phone and I'm still able to download updates. Ive tried restarting in safe mode, clearing caches, Safari without extensions.

I went to log my little sister on webkinz and it just stopped loading. It's worked for months in the past in both Safari & Firefox. Now all of a sudden it's just stopped loading. It tells me the page isn't found. I have tried google and clicking on the links that way and it still comes up with the page can't be found. My adobe flash player is updated to 10. something I'm running on Firefox 3.0 & the latest Safari. All other pages load with out any issues. It's just webkinz that doesn't work. I've also cleared my catche, cookies all of that. The only thing I haven't done is uninstall & reinstall it all.

I am running MAC OSX 10.6.3 and are having the following issues
About a Week ago I noticed I was having issues on certain web pages with opening links within the page. Example: A webpage im having a lot of errors on is Gunbroker.com If I click "add to my watch list" safari just sits there and does not open the page. Same for Firefox. Other links on the page work fine. I tried this site and others on my other macbook and it works just fine. Random links within webpages seem not to work.
I have tried to reset safari, clear caches, verify permissions and fix errors on Disk Utility still no fix. I also reinstalled firefox just not safari because of my favorites.
Any Ideas? If this has already been discussed please let me know I will try to find a thread. I did do a search but could not really find much pertaining to this issue.
I am writing my thesis in Pages 08. I need to have a TOC for all my headlines and I am using the TOC function for that. The problem is that I also want a figure list that updates automatically, TOC style. I can't find ant function for a figure list so I tried to give the figure text a different paragraph style then the regular headlines and then simply add a second TOC showing only that style. Unfortunately that did not work either since Pages only seem to allow one TOC per document.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently started using Pages in iwork over Office, I like the easy formatting and usability of Pages. But I have to send all these recently create pages doc in a word format to someone and so I did the Save as Word option.When I opened the Word file in Word all the text formatting went all over the place, it looked like it put extra tabs in there and there is a split down the middle of the text like it has put it in two columns.
Is there any way to ensure that when I create my pages document that the formatting is agreeable with word.
I have been having a problem with some websites, various ones. The page starts loading and I see the images load but once the page is done loading all of the images disappear and I get the little broken link icons in their place. I have no problem seeing those sites using Safari. Other sites are not a problem.
I have not done anything to tweak the pipelining and I have made sure that the box is checked to load images automatically with no exceptions. Java is also checked.

i bought a 15 inch mbp 8 months ago and will never look back. however, recently my safari browser has stopped working properly. when i try to load pages they will stop part way or not load at all. i will have to reload the page several times usually, just to see one page. i downloaded firefox to see if this would work better but it has the same issues. now i am at a standstill going back and fourth between the two browsers trying to check my email and face book once a day, which is annoying because of how long this takes, especially when it doesn't work at all. i think my computer may have a virus but i don't know a whole lot about computers
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem with Safari that has been bugging me. At seemingly random times it doesn't load a page. Usually it is the second page of a website I visit. This means that the homepage [URL] for example) loads fine. But when I click on a link on the page (to go to sports or politics), it starts loading and then does nothing. Like this:
The New York Times often doesn't load at all. I have no problems at all with some other sites, like wikipedia or Macrumors. Firefox and Camino do not have these problems.
The problem started when I was still running Tiger and Safari 2 on my MacBook. I since started using a MacBook Pro and moved all my data and settings with the Migration Assistant. The MacBook Pro runs Leopard, but Safari 3.0 has exactly the same problem as Safari 2 had on my Macbook. I tried the following:
- repair permissions
- removed all cookies and set my preferences to accept all cookies
- cleared cache
- manually removed the .plist-files for Safari from the Library
All to no avail. When I log in using the built-in Guest Account on my MacBook Pro, Safari runs fine.
Safari 4.0.4 on my Macbook Pro is incredibly slow. I type an address in the Safari bar, open Firefox, navigate to the same address, have it load, quit Firefox, and have Safari not even loading a little bit of the page yet. Most of the time it loads background colors (like the light gray at the top of this forum) but then slows to a crawl when trying to load the content.
I've tried reseting Safari, not having topsites as homepage, opening DNS, disabling IPv6, deleting a file in the pubsub folder and disabling the fraudulent site warning. All of these things were on the Apple's official discussion forums.
While these seemed to have helped a little, Safari 4 is still ridiculously slow compared to Firefox.
So it's only happened over the past month or so but Safari doesn't want to load some websites. The BBC iPlayer and macrumors funnily enough don't like to load at all and just freeze out and was wondering if there is any way to try and correct it if anyone has any idea what is going on because i am clueless!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI noticed that Safari wouldn't load a web page. So I went to my back up browser, Firefox. Well it loaded just fine. So at this point, I figured that it may be my schools crappy WiFi/lame firewalls or something of the sort. Well now I've been on my home WiFi for a few hours and it still won't connect. I've restarted my computer a few times and even reset Safari. Safari Version 5.0.1 (6533.17.8).
View 9 Replies View RelatedGot my blackbook a few months ago now and love it. But ive noticed that when browsing it seems to start loading a page but then halts for like ~5seconds and then finishes loading the website.
Now i tried loading the same websites on my windows machine in firefox/IE7 and i dont see that problem.
But what i did notice was it happens in safari and not in firefox on the mac.
Im running leopard with all the updates. Any ideas?
Has anyone else had an issue with Safari seeming to get "stuck" loading a particular element on a page? The progress info in the status bar always says "17 of 18" or "42-43". At first I thought it was GlimmerBlocker, but it seemed to reoccur without GlimmerBlocker. Refreshing the page always makes the site load properly, and I frankly have no idea what is going on.
I really like Safari, but the lack of proper extensions kills it. GlimmerBlocker puts a lot of that back, not only adblocking but things like easily searching wikipedia and so on. So I am loathe to blame GB for doing this. A few sites seem to do it on a fairly regular basis (Item 17 on CNN.com seems to be one of them), although it never happens when loading from the cache, nor is it guaranteed to happen.
How so I make it so text in text boxes runs in the traditional chinese style. Characters in text boxes should run down the page instead of across the page.

When I use Google to search for something and click on a result, then navigate back to the search results, the link that I just clicked shows up as visited (it is a different color). However when I refresh the results or search for the same results again, that very same webpage shows up as unvisited (same color as all other links on the page). I've narrowed this down to specifically an issue with Google, or at least not browser-wide (visited links are being remembered on CNN.com). I'm using Firefox 3.0.5, history is being remembered for 30 days in preferences. I've tried logging out of Google and searching as a guest and it still doesn't work. I've verified that it works correctly in Safari.

Every time I would go to ESPN or gmail it would freeze up, the spinning rainbow would come up and I would have to force quite the app. I thought it may just be a problem with Safari so I downloaded the latest FireFox and Chrome and to my surprise they began freezing up too doing the same thing. I've got a 13" MBP w/ the 2.53 GHz Core 2 duo and 4GB RAM. I ran a software update yesterday afternoon/evening when prompted to, but didn't check to see what it was. I do know it was one that didn't force me to do a restart.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirefox' site rendering is much more fluid than Safari's. Safari loads the BACKGROUND again and again with each click completely upsetting the eye. Firefox has the background steadily black as it is and loads the randomized image properly without any kind of irritation.Is there a way to make Safari load pages more efficiently like Firefox?Or is it just a rendering of all WebKit browsers that behaves like that?

Is there an opinion as to which is better, it at all? I am using it with OS 10.3.6 on two G4's, a Titanium laptop, and a 1.25 dual processor, both with plenty of RAM. There is, however, one specific question. Some sites I can access fully with the laptop, but not with the desktop, even though they are virtually the same hardware & software.
View 39 Replies View Relatedi have a early 2008 octo mac pro, with it im using a philips 220ws, the problem i'm having is that scrolling a page be it safari, firefox or a pages doc. it seems to jutter along and doesnt move as smooth as my mac book,and when typing into either msn messenger, pages or even text edit letters seem to lag behind what im typing, ok it may only be for a secon and about 2 letters behind burt it gets annoying worse when back spacing. does anyone else have the problem or possible fix? im not using anything more than than the word processor, safari and msn at a time
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy macbook is just over three months old, the other day my wireless internet connection cut out on it, but soon came back. Since then Safari is moving very slowly, every other page fails to load or will take up to a minute. To login to a page such as email or facebook is nearly impossible. When i have a page that will not load, the blue status in the url box usually doesnt go past the // in the http://, and it almost never fully reaches the end of the box Ive tried resetting safari and emptying the cache and it didnt help. I also contacted Comcast to see if it was a connection issue, but they found no problems.

My problem is that I had backed up my site a long time ago, after which i have made many changes. Now when I open iWeb it takes me back to the original days of the site. I still have the desired folder in "Sites", but can seem to get in onto iWeb. Is there any way to put my latest site back onto iweb?

For years I've used iTunes' "Create AAC version" .mp3 to .m4a feature in the advanced menu, primarily to reduce the file size of my many thousand mp3 songs.
Since the latest update to iTunes, whenever I do this now, the AAC version file size created by iTunes get larger, and makes the .m4a significantly bigger than an .mp3.
I understood the very point of an AAC/.m4a was to be a smaller sized file of an equivilent .mp3 while keeping a similar quality.
I know large artwork affects the file size, but this still happens regardless of artwork.
Does anyone know what's changed re this feature in this latest update?
