OS X :: Where To Find IP Address For USB Wireless Adapter

Feb 21, 2009

When both computers Beige G4 (os 9,2,2) and an eMac (os x Tiger) are connected to the internet with wire cables, there's no problem. I can hook up to the eMac from my Beige G4 (os 9.2.2)using Chooser/Appletalk/and inputing the IP address of the eMac (from Network preferences); which lets me connect.

When I'm hooked up to Internet- wireless with Afterthemac n300 usb internet adapter on eMac, my problem is that I need to have an IP Address of the wireless computer (eMac 750mhz) so that I can connect to it with a G4 Beige Mac os 9.2.2) which I can't find. I get the following in the Network preferences: Configure IPv4: Using DHCP (drop menu); IP Address 192.168.2.11; Subnet Mask 225.225.225.0; Router 192.168.2.1 The optional boxes for DNS Servers and Search Domains are empty.

These numbers were suggested by the Internet provider, which I entered in anticipation and before I received the n300. The router which I rent from the service provider is a SIEMENS GIGASET567. So- is there a way that I can change the numbers from above so that I can connect both computers. I tried the IP 192.168.2.11 but eventually a message comes back telling me it can't find the server. Another reason might be if I would want to hook up to the eMac from another office to get information on that particular computer.

MacBook :: Cannot Find IP Address For Wireless Network Connection

Jul 6, 2010

I have just bought a macbook, my internet connection at home is wireless however it requires the IP address of each computer using the wireless network to be entered into my wireless account, just an extra security measure. My new macbook has never been connected to the internet as I can not find the IP address I have tried applications/utlities/network utility and there is just a blank space where it says IP address. I have also tried System prefences/network and there is no IP address there either.

OS X :: Need A USB Wireless Adapter For Macbook?

Are there any that a store like best Buy sells that are compatible with a Mac / Macbook? I need to pick up a signal in another room, and the only way would be to run a long USB cord attached to a wireless adapter...but it seems like none of the bigger brands sell Mac-compatible versions. If anyone knows of a compatible adapter, please post about it!

I have a macbook that is not wireless n enabled. i know i could take apart the macbook and install a new airport card that is and that would work (and probably will one day soon) for the time being would a usb adapter work the same?

Also airport seems to drop its connection pretty frequently and doesn't like to work more than a few feet away from the docking station. I'm hoping it's because the airport card is old. Would an adapter fix this as well?

PowerPC :: How To Use Linksys Wireless Adapter In Powerbook

Aug 10, 2008

Anyway, I have a Powerbook G4 that's about five years old. It doesn't have an internal wireless card so I bought a Linksys wireless adapter to plug into the side of my computer when I first got the computer. It worked fine for years. I recently reformatted my hard drive and now when I insert the wireless adapter it no longer will allow me to connect to the internet. I'm aware that Linksys doesn't have drivers for Mac users so I'm kinda confused how I got it to work in the first place. I don't remember installing any third party software, but I may have-- it was a few years ago. what I should do to allow me to use my linksys card in my Mac? I've heard of Orangeware but I'm not sure if that's the solution.

Oh one more thing, when I plug the card in, an icon appears in the top right corner that shows something is plugged into the port but doesn't allow me to click on it and search for wireless connections.

OS X :: Cannot Access Wireless Network Using Ethernet Adapter

Aug 15, 2009

I am trying to get onto our home wireless network using a G4 a friend has just given me. It doesn't have an airport facility so my friend has also given me a 802.11g wireless ethernet adapter. I have followed the instructions exactly (accessing the adapters internal configuration and setting it to the wireless networks SSID and channel, then going back into the network settings and re-setting it to "obtain IP address using DHCP') When i restart the computer the network status reads as "built in ethernet is active and has a self-assigned ip address. you may not be able to connect to the internet" (the marker next to it is yellow)
needless to say I cannot connect to the internet.

OS X :: How To Find Linkstation (using IP Address) On MBA

Nov 27, 2010

I have just unpacked my new macbook air and after initially thinking I would put windows 7 on it, have decided to have a bash with the mac operating system first to see if I can get used to it. I have always used pc's so this is a big culture shock. I am 54 years old but consider myself quite techy minded, more so that my technophobe kids who always come to me when they have a problem. However I'm not sure you can teach an old dog new tricks, so to speak. I know it is frowned upon to compare with windows, and, as I said previously, I do not want my mac to be a pc, but might, at some points, refer to windows, so please be patient with me as that is all I know. I am going to trawl through all the guides at the top of the page as I'm sure they will be very informative.

I will be getting office for mac as learning a new OS is enough for me to tackle right now, and my air only has usb, no sd or dvd. I have a Buffalo linkstation with all my files etc., on and want to use it frequently for file transfer. I have downloaded NASnavigator and used 'finder' to look for it. (I am assuming 'finder' is similar to windows explorer, which is where the linkstation shows on my pc.) Should the linkstation show up automatically in the left hand menu, or do I need to click on something? Would it be under 'devices' or 'places'? (It is under neither at the mo.) I have searched and found info suggesting solutions for finding the linkstation using its IP address, but before doing this want to make sure I'm looking in the right place first.
