Hardware :: Built-in Wireless Card And Had To Switch To A USB Adapter?

Aug 13, 2008

For reasons I would rather not get into, let's say that I had to stop using my built-in wireless card and had to switch to a USB adapter. Let's also say that the driver for the Asus & Hawking adapters (both re-packaged versions of the same crap) are buggy as hell and cause system panics when large memory consumers + crappy network driver are both in use (iTunes or RSync over the wireless).

If I select from the menu bar another available wireless network (one without a password for example) and then switch back to my own wi-fi network, am I still safe?

Did the fact that I connected to another network present any risks?

I did not send any private info during that time, any risks of getting hacked?

Hardware :: Fidning Wireless Keyboard With Built-in Touchpad For OS X?

I don't want a mouse laying around, just a slim wireless (RF) keyboard with a built-in touchpad. Anyone have any recommendations?

Mac Pro :: Wireless Card - Can't Find Networks And Airport Card

Apr 14, 2009

I bought my Mac Pro as a refurb from Apple, but it didn't come with the wireless card built in. This didn't bother me because at my old apartment my computer was near the router so I just wired it up by ethernet. I just moved into a new place and my computer isn't within router distance and I don't want to run a bunch of cable. My boss gave me a card to plug into Apple wifi card spot and OSX found the card and showed some airport info, but it didn't find any networks and if I run the Airport Utility it says it can't find an airport card. So I assume it's not compatible. What are my options? Oh yeah, I found this on ebay. Sound reliable? [URL:....]

MacBook Pro :: Shortcut To Switch To 9600M Graphics Card?

Dec 30, 2009

I like to keep my laptop cool, so I usually run on the integrated 9400 graphics chip. But lately I've been finding myself playing a lot of games on my unibody mbp. However, it gets kind of tedious to have to continually switch over to the "better performance" 9600M option in energy saver. Instead of opening energy saver, clicking "better performance" and then restarting, is there a simple applescript or shortcut I can just double click that will do all this for me? I'd like to just place that script on the desktop and call it "play games" or something." I know it's a small inconvenience, but does anyone have a solution? Or can anyone make a simple automator or applescript to handle this?

OS X :: Where To Find IP Address For USB Wireless Adapter

Feb 21, 2009

When both computers Beige G4 (os 9,2,2) and an eMac (os x Tiger) are connected to the internet with wire cables, there's no problem. I can hook up to the eMac from my Beige G4 (os 9.2.2)using Chooser/Appletalk/and inputing the IP address of the eMac (from Network preferences); which lets me connect.

When I'm hooked up to Internet- wireless with Afterthemac n300 usb internet adapter on eMac, my problem is that I need to have an IP Address of the wireless computer (eMac 750mhz) so that I can connect to it with a G4 Beige Mac os 9.2.2) which I can't find. I get the following in the Network preferences: Configure IPv4: Using DHCP (drop menu); IP Address; Subnet Mask; Router The optional boxes for DNS Servers and Search Domains are empty.

These numbers were suggested by the Internet provider, which I entered in anticipation and before I received the n300. The router which I rent from the service provider is a SIEMENS GIGASET567. So- is there a way that I can change the numbers from above so that I can connect both computers. I tried the IP but eventually a message comes back telling me it can't find the server. Another reason might be if I would want to hook up to the eMac from another office to get information on that particular computer.
