PowerPC :: Reformatted The Hard Drive With Wireless Adapter No Longer Allow To Connect?

Aug 11, 2008

I have a Powerbook G4. It doesn't have an internal wireless card so I bought a Linksys wireless adapter to plug into the side of my computer when I first got the computer. It worked fine for years. I recently reformatted the hard drive and now when I insert the wireless adapter it no longer will allow me to connect to the internet. I'm aware that Linksys doesn't have drivers for Mac users so I'm confused as to how I got it to work in the first place. I don't remember installing any third party software, but I may have, it was a few years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do to allow me to use my linksys card in my Mac? I've heard of Orangeware but I'm not sure if that's the solution. The adapter is a WPC54G

Oh one last thing, when I plug the card in, an icon appears in the top right corner that shows something is plugged into the port but doesn't allow me to click on it and search for wireless connections.

Hardware :: Connect External Bus - Powered Firewire 800 Hard Drive To 400 Adapter

Oct 1, 2008

I'm looking for a way to connect an external bus-powered Firewire 800 hard drive (Glyph Portagig 800) to an iMac which only has Firewire 400 ports, and still powering the drive through just the Firewire connector.

All I've found are Firewire 400 to 800 adapters, allowing Firewire 400 peripherals to be connected to computers having only Firewire 800 ports. I need the opposite of course.
Where can I get such adapters, and without sacrificing bus-power?

Mac Pro :: External Hard Disc Drive Transfer - Hdd Need To Be Reformatted?

Jul 25, 2009

I have a 1TB external hard drive I use for backing up my digital camera pics. I have been using it on my parents compaq presario. However I recently made the switch to a Mac and bought a early 2005 Power Mac g5 dual 2.0ghz with osx 10.5 on it. The question I want to know is, if I unplug the drive from the presario and plug it into the back of the g%, will the files show up or does the drive need to be reformatted?

If so i'll just back everything up and reformat it and switch the drive to my computer.

May 3, 2012

I went to make a copy of an important drive and accidentally re-formatted it (re-formatted mac journaled, originally mac journaled).  The drive contained a bunch of important disk image files which I need to retrieve whole. I'm fairly confident that the files are still there and only the  table information got overwritten, as the re-format took about 30 seconds.  None of the  recovery software I've seen however, can retrieve .dmg files, or such large files (these are up to 32 gb each in size).how I can retrieve these disk image files?

Anyone know what the best course of action would be?

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Hardly Connect To Wireless Internet

Jan 25, 2010

I have been a mac user since 2006. Yesterday, I purchased an iBook G4 for my father, who I have converted from Windows to Macintosh. We are 99% satisfied. Everything works great except the wireless internet. Whenever the computer shuts off or goes to sleep, we have a difficult time re-connecting to the wireless internet. After five minutes of clicking on the wireless signal (at the top of the screen) and turning it on and off, we are able to get on. Once we connect, it does not seem to disconnect.

PowerPC :: Why G5 Tower Won't Connect To Wireless Network?

Apr 18, 2010

I need some help/suggestions as to why my G5 tower won't connect to a wireless network. I recently moved into a guest house with free wireless internet. My landlord gave me the password to tap in, and it works great on my netbook, which is what I am using to post this entry. It also works with my iPod Touch. However, my G5 times out every time I try. It recognizes the network and when I type in the password, it tries to join it and after a few moments it says "connection timed out"

Why is this happening? I'm up to date on software/hardware updates. I've even tried shutting down my netbook to see if that was the reason it wasn't connecting, but nope. Still doesn't connect.I like my netbook and internet browsing is speedy on it but I need my desktop for most of my work and internet productivity.

Mac Pro :: 5th Hard Drive In Optical Bay - Get Adapter 5.25 - 3.5"

May 18, 2008

I was able to manuveur a new sata cable under the fan assembly and connect it the mac pro ON Board Sata connector. Im close to installing a new Hitachi 1tb drive in the optical bay, using the molex power connector there, and my new sata dongle connector. Question: Where do I get that adapter for 5.25" to 3.5" for the hard drive to mount in the optical bay? Ive been googling for 1 hour and I found 1. Noiseblocker NB X-Swing $25 -- Hard to find anywhere in USA to buy it. 2. TransItnernational Pro Caddy -- $39 -- and No noise dampening.. just big cage. 3. The metal rails that come with many ex hard drives. 5.25" to 3.5" standard brackets. $9. looks like this causes the most noise problems. Can you guys recommend which one/where to get my last ingredient for the 5th drive install in the mac pro optical bay.

PowerPC :: Hard Drive Not Working / Logic Board Unable To Communicate With Hard Drive

Sep 9, 2009

My PowerBook G4 (Alum) died. I've had it for 4 years, taken it with me to Alaska and all over the lower 48, and have had nothing but happy experiences. I knew she was gonna go, but I was hoping she'd hold on until I could afford a MacBook. Alas, no. The problem appears to be the ability of the logic board to communicate with the hard drive. I can hear the HD spin, but even with Disk Warrior, I cannot locate it. The Mac Geniuses at my local Apple store confirmed this and gave me a shoulder to cry on. I've run Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, and tried finding it using the target disk mode - no luck.

The problem is that I've got 4 years of teaching materials, 6000 songs, and irreplaceable pictures on the HD, so I can't bring myself to just trash it. It's true that you only fail to back up you stuff once. This is my once. I've heard that with PC hard drives, you can just drop the old HD into a USB HD box and use it as an external HD. I can't afford professional data retrevial, and I want to give this option a try if it'll work with a Mac HD. Any ideas or suggestions?

I've been using a 3TB western digital hard drive flawlessly for months now. I'm posting here because the only thing that has changed within the time frame of my WD hard drive no longer working is updating my Lion install to 10.7.3. When I plug my WD hard drive into either of my macs (which are both running 10.7.3 , one is a macbook, the other an iMac) the external hard drive shows up on my desktop, and within 5 seconds will disconnect itself and I'll then get a warning telling me that I didn't eject my hard drive properly.I was starting to think it was my USB or power cable until I plugged the WD external into my old Compaq laptop that I'm running Linux on and it worked flawlessly!
