can i connect two macs with thunderbolt like I do with firewire and IP? I don't want to transfer files by using the control "T" at startup . I want use VNC to control one mac from the other and use thunderbolt vs ethernet.Â

I recently replaced my older MBP (2007) for a MBP, 2GHz, Core i7 with thunder bolt. I normally connect to my external monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster B2230HD. This worked perfectly for my needs. I connect my MBP via a Mini Display Port to VGA adapter.Â
Display resolution:Â
VGA (External Monitor) 1920x1080 60 Hz
MBP Display 1440 x 900Â
Problem: Now with the new MBP, I get a black stripe on the left on side. (See pic)Â Â
Troubleshooting Steps:
a) Replacement VGA Cable
b) Replacement Mini Display Port Adapter
c) Tried a HDMI cable (worked but with disminish resolution and a yellow tint)
d) Adjusted both MBP and Samsung display settings include Auto Adjust.Â
I determined that the monitor is okay because the screen is filled with a lower resolution and "mirror display".
Frustrated - cannot find a way to attach a second monitor to the new i5 iMac w/Thunderbolt.

What gives?What I'm observing is that when I open up Network Preferences in both macs, the Airport says its connected on the working one while it says no IP Address on the one that's not working.
However, when I change locations so that both macs have the same locations, the one that's not working says, Self-Assigned IP, yet, still no connection.One more thing, I also notice that in advanced settings under TCP/IP, both macs have two different IPv4's.
I unplugged my PC and my two macs because of the potential threat of the whole April Fools Day Virus. Well I heard nothing happened so I turned on my PC. Interent would not connect.. then I realized my wifi modem wasnt connected. I connected it and the internet worked fine. I went downstairs and turned on my old imac and my new 17 inch macbook pro. I booted up Safari just to make sure and it won't connect.It just keeps acting like it's trying to load and won't connect even though I have full signal. Any ideas what's up? It's going on with both of them yet for some reason my pc is working fine.

I have a new iMac MacBook air and aebs with a USB drive, both computers are set up as the same user and passed and with full file sharing running. From the iMac I can see the laptop under the shared heading but clicking on it just sits for a while and then says unable to connect, the same thing happens when I click connect as. This happens from the laptop also and also exactly the same when trying to connect to the drive on the aebs.
They only way it works is to go the finder and going through connect to server and this is fine, any ideas what to do? Also my understanding is that the drive on the aebs should automatically connect but this doesn't? Which means every time I restart the laptop I have to manually reconnect to the drive which is annoying as I use it for time machine. I would also like to easily connect both macs together so I can keep files synced easier.
I am trying to simultaneously connect a FireWire HDD to my MBP (running SL) and a PPC G4 (Tiger). It has 2 FW ports but it will not let me mount on both desktops. As I recall, there was a way to easily do this?

I have to wait a few days (at most) for my job to register my MAC address so that the new Mac Pro has access to the network/internet via ethernet. It does not have an Airport card or Bluetooth. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a blackbook (intel core 2 duo) and I can connect to my landlord's wireless network (they have a netgear wgt624) but I can't actually use the web (Safari or Firefox will just "think"). I've tested the diagnostics and it confirms that my mac can connect to the network, but it cannot connect to the internet. The network uses WPA personal and it has a 19-aphanumeric passphrase.
*Also - would it be possible for me to extend the wireless range (and make it possible to browse the web) if I used my own 2wire wireless modem to connect to the netgear wgt624?
I am considering the new Macboom Pro with Retina display -- but it has no CD/DVD drive. Some programs (e.g. Rosetta stone) require the original CD be in the hard drive for the program to work -- which seems to prohinbit the new (Retina display) Macbook Pro. Right now I have a late 2006 MacBook (C2D) and I am planning on getting a new unibody MacBook in the near future. While using my actual MacBook I replaced the hard disk by a 320 GB Samsung Spinpoint. Of course, I want to have that little friend in the new unibody MacBook. What is the best way to ensure the migration? Just put it in and restart? Or are the any hooks? I hope I could avoid any copying to a third computer, switching hard disks and copying back.

My notebook is about to arrive and I'm trying to learn how to connect two macs to a single internet connection. I'm starting from scratch, really -- I'm learning what a router / switch / ethernet are! Ideally, it would be nice if I could keep my existing cable connection to my Imac and install a wireless connection to my notebook. But I don't know if it is possible and how to do that. I've not found clear advices on such installation, yet. Also, since I'll move in June, I searching for the cheapest solution.
