Apr 15, 2012I just bought a MacBook Air and am looking to share the library in my iPhoto between my iMac and MacBook Air.

View 1 RepliesI'm looking for something like syncOTunes but for iPhoto. My wife and I each have our own mac, and just like our music libraries, we end up with very different iPhoto libraries. From a simple "backup" perspective it would be nice to sync the two up now and then a la syncOTunes.

Hi can anyone tell me how to share files between my macs? I did some homework on my MBP but need it on my MB.
I usually email the files & reopen them on my MB, but can I network my macs? I looked in "Macintosh HD" & it only shows my iMac not my MB?
I can't seem to make my itunes library available to other users on the same iMac.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a centralized network location where I store my "iTunes Music" directory. This location contains all the media (music and video), but no library information. We have 2 computers with separate libraries that use the files on this network drive. Each computer has its own set of playlists, podcast subscriptions, and devices (ipods and iphones) that attach to it. I set it up this way so we would not duplicate files, but so that each computer could be customized to each user.

This is probably very basic but I don't know how to do it.I have an iMac (2007) running Leopard. I have an iBook (2004) running Tiger. They both share my home wireless network.
How can I best share documents between them? Eg how can I browse the hard drive of each machine from the other- ideally without entering passwords etc every time?
Additionally, the iMac is connected to the printer (because it is also a scanner); can the iBook share the printer too?
Ok, was excited to get a refurb Mini today to setup as a Media Center using Boxee. I've got a 1TB WD External Drive used to store all my media, and I figured sharing that drive between the Mini and my Blackbook would be a cinch. WAY not the case. Both computers are running 10.5, fully updated.
These are the steps that I thought it would involve:
- Connecting the Drive to the Mini
- Turning on File Sharing
- Adding the specific folders on the Drive I want shared, and setting permissions accordingly
(Don't know if its relevant (or a stupid idea regardless), but I have the same user name and password setup on both of these machines as the admin)
- Connecting to the Mini in Finder on the Blackbook..............
My friend was having some issues with an old mac of his, so he bought a new one. He said that when he connected the two macs to move files from the old one to the new one, something weird happened. Te new one found the processor and ram from the old one and used it as its own resources.
I have lost contact with this guy so i have no way to find out how this was done. I think he said he used a firewire cable between the two macs but am not sure
does anyone know how to do this? I dont think it was xgrid cause it worked with all programs and could see the processors in activity manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What's the best ways to share files between 2 Macs on the same wifi network? Also perhaps between a Mac and a Windows PC.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two Macs, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini.I have all my music on MacBook Pro. I want to be able to access iTunes from Mac Mini. But I don't like Home Sharing, because it doesn't really sync my music, and that route keeps two separate libraries.
When I'm home, both Macs are connected to the same network. I want my Mac Mini to access MacBook Pro's iTunes Library, update new music from Mac Mini which gets reflected on MacBook Pro. So that if I consolidate the file from Mac Mini, it gets put into the hard drive of MacBook Pro.
I understand what I'm trying to do, doesn't actually put physical files on Mac Mini. If MacBook Pro is not in the network or is turned off, that I wouldn't be able to access MacBook Pro's iTunes Library.
I don't want to use any third party applications to "sync" my music. I want to be able to do it by using File Sharing and such.
I have Time Machine backups of two iPhoto Library files, one of which I've flawlessly copied to my new iMac, everything is in working order and awesome. Now I have an additional iPhoto Library from another computer that I'd like to add.
How should I go about doing this? I fear that if I simply drag-n-drop the Library file into iPhoto I'll get duplicates (the Original/Modified folders) and lose all the albums, etc.
I'm sure this has been posted, but my search pulled up hundreds of threads. After I scanned the first 50, I decided to just post my question.
I have to wait a few days (at most) for my job to register my MAC address so that the new Mac Pro has access to the network/internet via ethernet. It does not have an Airport card or Bluetooth. While I am waiting, is there a way to connect the Mac Pro to my Powerbook (which has Wifi internet access) such that it can piggyback on the internet connection as a temporary solution?
Need to remove duplicates from iphoto Libraries is there anything out there to help?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't want aperature or iphoto to create their own libraries, I would like to work on a photo in pictures and the relevant folder and leave it there and not create another copy elsewhere. I recently read an article/tip on how to do this but can't find the relevant magazine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes and iPhoto libraries on my MBP that I would like to mirror to my external/Airport HDD so that my Mac mini can access the content.
I've been using iTunes sharing function, but it doesn't sync ratings/play count/etc, and iPhoto doesn't seem to have the option.
I just setup my new iMac (coming from a PowerMac G5). There is another PowerMac G5 on the same network that is still in use.
With my old setup, I was able to access the other PowerMac computer including all files...I found see, copy, change everything on the other computer. I don't recall how I initially did it but it worked great.
I can't seem to duplicate it on the new iMac. On the PowerMac still in use, it says that Admins are supposed to have total access but my access seems very limited. It will only work for folders that I specifically add in File Share and even then it says some items are locked and can't be modified when I open them on my iMac.
It seems as if I am not gaining access as an Admin but as a regular user. What am I doing wrong here?
So I want to get new MBA. But going from 500gb hdd MB, will need to set up wireless HDD for my pictures and music. Is it best to do all of it on one external hdd or can I mix n match say podcasts n my favorite pictures on internal hdd n the rest on the external?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs I am planning to buy a MacBook today, what is the best, most efficient way for me to transfer my iTunes and iPhoto libraries? I already backed up my Documents on an external HD. I have a FW400 to FW400 cable. Is there a process using this that will be fast and easy?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had to send my computer to apple for a repair and it came back wiped clean.
Due to the problem it was having I was unable to back up, I found this out when I tried to and my external hd back up failed . I have everything on my iPhone that I really need, iTunes and iPhoto library. I is there anyway to take that from my iPhone and put it on my computer?
I have an iMac that I keep all of pics and music etc. I will be purchasing a mbpro and would like to edit photo's in iphoto on the mbpro. I'm assuming you can somehow share a drive? Is this possible. I guess i could also use a virtual machine of some sort.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI already have the iMac up and running and would like to bring my eMac libraries over to the new iMac. Is the easiest way to this is drag and drop files on the iMac from the eMac using firewire? How do I mount the eMac as an external drive? I bought a new ibook in the the past, but never transfered my 25,000+ picture iPhoto or 3,000+ iTunes libraries to it (saved space). Also, I assume all I have to do for the copy protected aac files I have downloaded on the eMac is to add my log in to the iTunes on the iMac?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought an external hard drive for our airport extreme. Would it be a good idea to have our iphoto and itunes libraries on that hard drive, so that the various computers that we are using can access the libraries wirelessly?
If you think it is a good idea, how would you go about moving the itunes library? I think it's easy enough for iphoto, but itunes seems a bit more complicated?

Does anyone here sync most or all their files between two macs? I have an imac and will be getting a mbp. I'd like both macs to have the same copy of itunes, iphoto and other documents. Will .mac sync do this or what software setup do you use to make this work?
