Intel Mac :: Thunder Bolt And External Monitor (Black Stripe)?
Feb 6, 2012I recently replaced my older MBP (2007) for a MBP, 2GHz, Core i7 with thunder bolt. I normally connect to my external monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster B2230HD. This worked perfectly for my needs. I connect my MBP via a Mini Display Port to VGA adapter.Â
Display resolution:Â
VGA (External Monitor) 1920x1080 60 Hz
MBP Display 1440 x 900Â
Problem: Now with the new MBP, I get a black stripe on the left on side. (See pic)Â Â
Troubleshooting Steps:
a) Replacement VGA Cable
b) Replacement Mini Display Port Adapter
c) Tried a HDMI cable (worked but with disminish resolution and a yellow tint)
d) Adjusted both MBP and Samsung display settings include Auto Adjust.Â
I determined that the monitor is okay because the screen is filled with a lower resolution and "mirror display".

Mar 13, 2012I have an old PC monitor that I want to connect to my new 27 inch iMac, it's the latest edition, the one that doesn't have any mini display ports.All I have are four USB 2.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports. No mini display port of any kind. So is there an adapter for me? My old monitor can use either VGA or HDMI and I'm not really fussed which one I use. A link would be most helpful, surley that are more people with the same problem.

Jun 19, 2009I'm trying to connect my whitebook so I can watch iplayer on my TV. I've got a mini DVI to video adaptor and from that I've run an s video cable to the back of my tele. Audio is from the audio out to a phono adapter and into the tv. The T.V. is an oldish panasonic crt.
Now the audio is working so I know I've got the right channel on the tv but my comp doesn't seem to be recognising that it's plugged into the tv. Is what I'm trying to do posable, basically using my tv as a monitor?

Aug 2, 2009The monitor came with the VGA cable, but not a DVI-D cable. Should I get the DVI-D cable and adapter instead of a VGA adapter? Why do I ask, because the adapters both cost $34 each (I'm Canadian) but the catch is for DVI I would have to add an extra $20 for the cable and I'm not sure if it's worth it or not since I'm tight on money.
Should I worry myself over getting a DVI adapter AND the additional cost which is the DVI-DVI cable?Already answered:Just like Windows which makes it super easy, I tried searching but didn't find the right solution...
