OS X :: If Connect A Macbook (or Any Mac) To A TV - Limited To The Macs Resolution?

Sep 4, 2010

For example, on the Apple website, it says the Macbook supports a number of resolutions, but none of them are my TV's native resolution (1920x1080). Will my TV accept a lower resolution or can the Mac go up to 1080p?

MacBook :: Limited VGA Resolution?

Mar 7, 2009

I purchased the VGA adapter for my aluminum MacBook, and am not satisfied with the resolution output to my HDTV.

Perhaps I was naive to think a VGA connection would be satisfactory! My problem is that that the resolution just isn't pleasing and I am not able to get a 16X9 aspect ratio to my HDTV.

Do I need to go MiniDVI to HDMI, and will this give me a 16x9 output to my HDTV?

OS X :: 2 Macs, Same Network, Only One Can Connect?

Oct 21, 2010

I have two macs and strangely one mac is unable to connect to the internet via airport while the other one can via airport. What gives? What I'm observing is that when I open up Network Preferences in both macs, the Airport says its connected on the working one while it says no IP Address on the one that's not working.

However, when I change locations so that both macs have the same locations, the one that's not working says, Self-Assigned IP, yet, still no connection. One more thing, I also notice that in advanced settings under TCP/IP, both macs have two different IPv4's.

OS X :: Safari On Both Macs Won't Connect To Internet?

Apr 2, 2009

I unplugged my PC and my two macs because of the potential threat of the whole April Fools Day Virus. Well I heard nothing happened so I turned on my PC. Interent would not connect.. then I realized my wifi modem wasnt connected. I connected it and the internet worked fine. I went downstairs and turned on my old imac and my new 17 inch macbook pro. I booted up Safari just to make sure and it won't connect. It just keeps acting like it's trying to load and won't connect even though I have full signal. Any ideas what's up? It's going on with both of them yet for some reason my pc is working fine.

OS X :: Sharing Files Between Two Macs - Unable To Connect

Jul 21, 2009

I have a new iMac MacBook air and aebs with a USB drive, both computers are set up as the same user and passed and with full file sharing running. From the iMac I can see the laptop under the shared heading but clicking on it just sits for a while and then says unable to connect, the same thing happens when I click connect as. This happens from the laptop also and also exactly the same when trying to connect to the drive on the aebs.

They only way it works is to go the finder and going through connect to server and this is fine, any ideas what to do? Also my understanding is that the drive on the aebs should automatically connect but this doesn't? Which means every time I restart the laptop I have to manually reconnect to the drive which is annoying as I use it for time machine. I would also like to easily connect both macs together so I can keep files synced easier.

Mac Pro :: Can I Connect Two Macs To Share Wireless Internet Access?

Aug 28, 2006

I'm sure this has been posted, but my search pulled up hundreds of threads. After I scanned the first 50, I decided to just post my question.

I have to wait a few days (at most) for my job to register my MAC address so that the new Mac Pro has access to the network/internet via ethernet. It does not have an Airport card or Bluetooth. While I am waiting, is there a way to connect the Mac Pro to my Powerbook (which has Wifi internet access) such that it can piggyback on the internet connection as a temporary solution?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Use Custom Resolution For Tv / Best Resolution For An LCD HDTV?

Aug 17, 2010

So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.

I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).

MacBook :: Limited To Amount Of Memory Resources

Mar 18, 2009

I have the 2.2 blacbook, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd. Now when I first bought my macbook, I did not use Illustrator or Photoshop CS3 (for both). Now 1.5 years in, I am using Illustrator and I noticed that when I am working on both (either at the same time, or with one program closed) I sometime get the message in Illustrator "Not enough memory" or "Not enough ram" or when I am saving an image for web and devices "an unknown error has occurred"

BUT if I use Illustrator and Photoshop CS3 (for both) on Vista via bootcamp none of these errors occur. I just don't want to imaging what will happen when I use CS4. Is this due to the way Leopard is setup? I am also looking to upgrade...So do you guys think the new macbook or macbook pros would be better? I mean, my current macbook is holding up well...but I just hate these errors. I prefer to work in Leopard than Vista.

MacBook Air :: Over Heating Eat And Limited Battery Time

Jun 7, 2010

I have a rev B MBA, which is gorgeous but I have found myself using it less than any other Laptop I've ever had and it is simply due to two reasons:

- Heat, pretty much anything except simple browsing raise the heat
- Battery time, simply lousy (including charge time)

Have had it for a while, 14 months, but at this point I have started looking at the 13 and 15 inch versions as replacements down the road. I thought it would make a great compliment to the imac but due to the limitations above I use it less and less. If only they had added a fraction of an inch of thickness to allow better heat handling and more battery.

MacBook Pro :: Dual ESATA RAID Connection For Stripped Array Would Be Limited And Expresscard

Oct 28, 2009

The MBP has one expresscard slot. So if you use an eSata adapter (even if it has dual eSATA ports) it would only have one eSATA channel And that would be limited further by the express card slot and more still by the type of card (make, model, etc..). My question is: with Barefeats claiming even the best eSATA card for a MBP being 200MB/s (even if you claim less) using a dual eSATA RAID connection for a stripped array would be limited to 100MB/s per port. Is this correct? Because I'm trying to understand this to see if it's worth building a RAID setup for my MBP when I'm home.

I've asked this numorous times and get helpful advice but not addressng this specific and fundamental fact. I am not interested in FW800 because I want the fastest I can get but want it to make sense. I would also reask my other questions about my situation but this question comes first.

OS X :: Best Way To Distribute Files / Have Limited HD Space?

Jan 3, 2011

Ok, here's what I have:MacBookPro 15"85 GB hard drive2 GB RAM139 GB of photos on the hard driveExternal hard drives:128 GB drive that contains old PC files (including about 30 GB of photos not currently in iPhoto library)500 GB portable WD hard drive for Time Machine backups (188 GB free)1 TB brand new Seagate Expansion desktop hard drive, totally freshThe problem:Finder says I have 1.8 GB of free space on my hard drive. I have to do something about these 139 GB of photos. I access them more than anything but my HD is so clogged that things are not saving well. Even iPhoto library tells me it can't save changes, and I am just trying to delete photos! I am thinking of running my iPhoto Library off of an external hard drive. Do I even have enough memory to transfer it? Should I just upgrade my internal hard drive and use the externals for backups? What would you do at this point? I want to eventually install Photoshop and Lightroom. Just bought Photoshop Elements 9 and hope to use it with iPhoto. How do I put all these hard drives to good use?

Plus I don't want to sink a ton of money in it, it's running very well now, actually quite well. I hope to spend less than $30 for a used or new wireless b-g pci card if possible.
