View 8 RepliesI have two macs and strangely one mac is unable to connect to the internet via airport while the other one can via airport. What gives? What I'm observing is that when I open up Network Preferences in both macs, the Airport says its connected on the working one while it says no IP Address on the one that's not working.
However, when I change locations so that both macs have the same locations, the one that's not working says, Self-Assigned IP, yet, still no connection. One more thing, I also notice that in advanced settings under TCP/IP, both macs have two different IPv4's.
I have one imac (running leopard) and an oldish macbook (also leopard) which can 'see' eachother as soon as the macs are switched on. However my newer macbook Pro (running snow leopard) can't 'see' the other two. They can find it but it can't find them.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI unplugged my PC and my two macs because of the potential threat of the whole April Fools Day Virus. Well I heard nothing happened so I turned on my PC. Interent would not connect.. then I realized my wifi modem wasnt connected. I connected it and the internet worked fine. I went downstairs and turned on my old imac and my new 17 inch macbook pro. I booted up Safari just to make sure and it won't connect. It just keeps acting like it's trying to load and won't connect even though I have full signal. Any ideas what's up? It's going on with both of them yet for some reason my pc is working fine.

For example, on the Apple website, it says the Macbook supports a number of resolutions, but none of them are my TV's native resolution (1920x1080). Will my TV accept a lower resolution or can the Mac go up to 1080p?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new iMac MacBook air and aebs with a USB drive, both computers are set up as the same user and passed and with full file sharing running. From the iMac I can see the laptop under the shared heading but clicking on it just sits for a while and then says unable to connect, the same thing happens when I click connect as. This happens from the laptop also and also exactly the same when trying to connect to the drive on the aebs.
They only way it works is to go the finder and going through connect to server and this is fine, any ideas what to do? Also my understanding is that the drive on the aebs should automatically connect but this doesn't? Which means every time I restart the laptop I have to manually reconnect to the drive which is annoying as I use it for time machine. I would also like to easily connect both macs together so I can keep files synced easier.
can i connect two macs with thunderbolt like I do with firewire and IP? I don't want to transfer files by using the control "T" at startup . I want use VNC to control one mac from the other and use thunderbolt vs ethernet.

I am trying to simultaneously connect a FireWire HDD to my MBP (running SL) and a PPC G4 (Tiger). It has 2 FW ports but it will not let me mount on both desktops. As I recall, there was a way to easily do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm sure this has been posted, but my search pulled up hundreds of threads. After I scanned the first 50, I decided to just post my question.
I have to wait a few days (at most) for my job to register my MAC address so that the new Mac Pro has access to the network/internet via ethernet. It does not have an Airport card or Bluetooth. While I am waiting, is there a way to connect the Mac Pro to my Powerbook (which has Wifi internet access) such that it can piggyback on the internet connection as a temporary solution?
I have a blackbook (intel core 2 duo) and I can connect to my landlord's wireless network (they have a netgear wgt624) but I can't actually use the web (Safari or Firefox will just "think"). I've tested the diagnostics and it confirms that my mac can connect to the network, but it cannot connect to the internet. The network uses WPA personal and it has a 19-aphanumeric passphrase.
*Also - would it be possible for me to extend the wireless range (and make it possible to browse the web) if I used my own 2wire wireless modem to connect to the netgear wgt624?
Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL I just started to receive this message, when I try to go to this one website. What caused this? and how can I fix this problem? I an geet to website using other browsers.

I don't know what's wrong with it.My ipod touch connects just fine and yet when i try to connect my new macbook it won't allow me to connect.I've never owned a macbook - so i have no idea how to fix this.
I currently have the network setup assistant running and configuring - but it's been about an hour and it hasn't done anything. Is there something else i need to do?
What i did was open the ipod through mycomputer (windows XP) and cut the folder that contains all my music and pasted it into mydocuments so i had full amount of memory on my ipod to use it as a memory device. I gave it to my friend to put some videos into my ipod again through mycomputer. He didnt allow the ipod to sync on his itunes. Now i have it back i plugged it into my pc and my itunes couldnt pick it up and neither can mycomputer. I left it plugged in and restarted my pc when it booted up i opened itunes and it was sort of froze, after leaving it for a minute or two my ipod cam e up on itunes but it said it was corrupt. I ran the restore over night as it was taking along time and when i cam back this morning it was still doing it! Whats wrong with my ipod?! is there any other way to system reset it? do you think my mate should have synced it with his pc?

I have two Macs, one for the road and one for home.
As I have a digital camera, I store the images (jpg and raw) on an external hard drive.
I want to be able to have another copy of those files on my MacBook, for editing on the road, and when I come home, to copy the modified and new images and files back to the external drive.
I also edit some pictures on my iMac, so the process has to be vice versa:
Do any of you know of a software that syncs only the modified files back and forth, and doesn't treat one file (or set of files) as the master and the other as copy like FileSync?
