I did the software update.After that my 1 and only USB port is not working anymore.Totaly dead. Cant do any hardware test, since they ask to use a dvd. Well no USB so no Disk Drive So no hardware test.
Also the online test is not working.Need to download a file. which is failing to.Â
Dont know what to do.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 17" unibody MBP (early 2009, specs below). It was running hotter than usual the other day, so I F2 booted into AHT to run a diagnostic. The status box within AHT showed 1 second into the 1st pass, and never got beyond that. Several seconds after that status message was displayed, the cursor froze. The time counter never advanced after that, and although I waited a long time, nothing happened. The test froze.Â
I've tried it several times more. It once worked, but every other time has frozen. Checking the "extended test" box, or trying to run in loop mode has made no difference - still freezes at "1 second".Â
I've had this machine for 3 years, OS's Leopard through Lion, and this has never happened before. I last ran a test, successfully, in January. I've not changed any components or suffered any damage since then. Memtest (ver 4.22) says my RAM is fine. (I ran this because the first portion of the AHT is the RAM component.) Aside from the aforementioned overheating episode, which disappeared, my machine's been fine.Â

My son's 17" imac PPC G5 was not booting up. After a trying a couple of things I got it to boot using Disk Warrior and reparing the file directory. At that time I also ran DW's hardware test which said the drive was fine. My son hard restarted it shortly after I fixed it and it wouldn't start up again. Just a gray screen, no apple logo. When I tried to use DW again it told me there were problems with the hard drive and it couldn't fix the problem. I tried to fix the hard drive in target disk mode using Disk Utiltiy and Drive Genius. No luck. So I pulled a working drive out of my Mac Pro and reformatted it and swapped the internal drive of the iMac with it. There were no DIP switches to set. Started up the imac with a Leopard retail disk thinking I would just install a fresh system onto the replaced internal drive of the iMac. Disk Utility on the leopard disk didn't see the hard drive. Now I'm beginning to think it's a logic board problem but I can't find the original disks to do a Hardware test with. Is there some other way to test a logic board? Or some other idea that I'm not thinking of that could be wrong with the machine?

if you recall a thread I started trying to get help on why the Mac Pro was crashing... I finally narrowed it down.After speaking to about 4 different people at apple.... they had me run the Apple Hardware Test off the boot CD.I took out EVERYTHING except the 2nd DVD burner (Apple Branded Superdrive from my old 2.5 Dual G5)... and ran the test.The Hardware Test ACTUALLY FROZE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RAM TEST.I thought I had bad aftermarket ram... as it wasn't playing nice with the Apple ram when I added them together.Looks like I had fine aftermarket ram... the Apple ram was bad.I REPLACED the Apple Ram with the Aftermarket Ram... and the Hardware Test completed fine.So, now I'm going to be calling them again in the morning and letting them know what happened. I wonder if they'll just let me RMA the bad ram, or if I'm going to have to lug this dang thing down to an apple store.I WONT BE HAPPY IF I HAVE TO DO THAT.Oh, and no more lockups since switching out the ram... and all the other quirks (not able to burn CDs in Windows, sloooow Internet page draws, etc...) are all but gone now.

My iSight on my MBP used to work fine on all apps as well as video chat sites, but it recently started working only occasionally on Omegle/Chatroulette. On my end, I could see myself, but others said they couldn't see me, and their cams were just black boxes like they weren't loading. It was the same way on both Firefox and Safari, so it couldn't be a browser issue. I thought it may have been an issue that came with the newest OS X update (the one with the Mac app store from just the other day), so I reinstalled OS X from the disk that came in the box. Now chat sites don't even recognize it and I get the "webcam required" message as though I don't even have one. But, Skype and iChat can use it just fine. I even reset the SMC by holding down left shift, control, option, and power with the computer off, but nothing changed. I am running the latest Flash (ver. 10.1.102.64) according to [URL].

I pulled my 8 gig kingston ram out, repositioned back and still the same issue. Slapping in the original 4 gigs of apple ram, it will start up and work fine though. Is there a fix to get the 8 gigs working again on the machine?

I just did the firmware update from my late 2011 Macbook Pro 13" (running 10.7.3) which all seemed to go fine, except I can't connect to my wifi any more. There is another 13" macbook pro, a 13" macbook air and 2 android phones which can all still access the wifi. I keep getting a message that my password is invalid (I know it's not). Everything I have tried has been done with the power supply connected.I have:
-rebooted the wifi router
-rebooted the mac
-shut down, waited for 5 minutes and rebooted
-repaired permissions
-deleted the keychain and tried to make a newconnection
-tried reinstalling the EFI firmware update from a .dmg (it won't let me)

I updated to 10.6.4 the other day on my mbp 17" 2.93 mid 2009 model the other day. Since, my computer has developed two problems. first and most annoying, the keyboard doesn't work properly anymore. Shift keys don't work, then they do work. One side doesn't then the other side does. option and command do the same thing. Is this a documented problem? I searched and saw it was prior to 10.6.4, but I never had any problems until this update. Also, when I shut my computer, instead of going to sleep now. It goes crazy, fans jack up to full speed and it gets super hot. Doesn't sleep at all. Funny enough before the update, when i closed the lid the computer would go to sleep and wouldn't wake up.

My sound does not seem to be working following the latest update to Mavericks (10.9.4). I am running a 2012 Retina Macbook Pro. Sound does not work with speakers, headphones or built-in sounds. Its not on mute, I have checked the Audio Midi setup and Sound settings and everything is as they were prior to the update, so the sound should still be working.Â
I have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, no luck yet. Also tried re-installing the update but did not work.Â
I have a 13" MacBook Pro that was purchased in January 2014. Recently I installed the recommended updates for OS Mavericks on my computer. I rebooted the computer as recommended and when I went to login lo and behold my keyboard will not function. None of the keys will work so I couldn't even put in my login password to even see what the problem was. Naturally I went to all the apple forums I could, to find a solution and none of them seem to work. I reset the PRAM and SMC and still cannot get the keyboard to function. While under disk utility the keyboard functions just fine. But It will not function in a regular setting.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSound is working fine on my MBA - but when i plug anything into the headphone jack i hear a millisecond of sound then nothing, as soon as i take it out again, it is still playing fine through built in speakers. I think it started happening after i downloaded and installed the latest update but i'm not 100% sure. Tested headphones, stereo etc. and nothing, working. (stereo & headphones work fine through iphone etc. so it's not the cable or the jack) It also does seem like it takes longer for the MBA to recognise something is plugged in? could be a software bug on the new update?

A few months ago I noticed that Flash would not load videos on some websites (youtube works fine, but others sometimes show just a circle spinning). Normally I'd simply go to Firefox from Safari if I really wanted to watch a video. I did realize that the file that tends to not load usually encounters an error with the xml file. It usually says it could not find the host server by that name, but this happens accross multiple websites.Â
Now even Firefox has stopped working. I've tried unisntalling and re-installing flash, including older versions to no avail. I also attempted to clear the cache, delete flash folders in the library folder, etc. None of this has worked.The only other solution I've yet to try is that with the Lion update, you have to update your graphics card driver. I went to the nvidia website however, and for my graphics card they do not have a driver out yet.Â

Same for downloads via FireFox and Chrome, but the odd thing is, Safari is still working fine. Already checked the system for flashback and checked the hosts file and a new com.apple.softwareupdate.plist got created... without success.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 17" unibody MBP (most current version) with 10.6.4, and I downloaded the recent firmware updates for the MBP's. Before I did this, the mini port to HDMI video/audio output was working perfectly, I could watch anything right off my MBP. After installing the updates, when I plug in the cable, my MBP flickers, goes blue, and then comes back, but the TV does not detect the signal from the laptop. In the Display and Sound menus in System Preferences, there's no option to set up a second display like there was before.

I have the setting for the function keys to work like normal function keys so I have to press the fn key to change the volume. This does not work and changing the setting does not work. I cannot add a shortcut either. Whenever I push the shortcut, I get a grayed out screen with a symbol showing that I cannot change the volume. I can still make changes by clicking on the volume symbol at the top of my screen but I really need the shortcut back.

When starting this firmware update it appears a window with a status message, cancel and Update buttons. After clicking the update button, it starts installing, appears to complete, status changes to "Finishing...", and Update button comes back active at some point. Â

I bought an install disk for Leopard 10.5.1, installed it on a clean drive, and had it copy apps, files, Users, and settings from a 10.4.? volume. It went mostly ok, though it installed older versions of Safari and iTunes. I downloaded updated versions from [URL]
But when I fire off the Software Update option, it never finds any updates, even though Leopard is up to 10.5.5. It tells me it has nothing new at this time. What can I do?
I just updated Safari to 3.2.1 and it has gone crazy. It only loads a little of the page and then stops. What is wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed OS X 10.4 and when I do the software update option, the 10.4.11 update downloads, but at the end it says that it could work because something about it could be tampered with? The 10.4 install disc is legit (black disc with silver x)
Why won't it let me update to 10.4.11? Also, my itunes won't work, it says it needs 10.4.9 or higher to work. It work with 10.3.9 which is older.
