This was a new battery 8 months ago. I checked its health periodically and all seemd good until two days ago when the battery went from healthy to dead in less than 8 hours. Is there anything to do to bring this one back to life or is the only remedy to buy another one?

After updating to Mavericks my MacBook Pro drains the battery quicker and is also booting from empty battery in sleep mode very slowly. It also gives the feeling that it has slow down a little.
Problem description: MacBook Pro 2011 gen. has become slower after Maverick update. The battery also drains quicker. It takes much longer to boot, specially from empty battery in sleep mode.Â

I have a Retina MBP on the way and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer data to it from my Mid 2010 13" MBP (Firewire but no Thunderbolt).
Would the new Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor allow me to enable Target Disk Mode and transfer? As this adaptor doesn't appear to be available yet, in the UK Store at least

I just got a new MBP and I want to test how much battery life I am getting. Is there a way to do this other than just manually keeping track of how much time I used it for? A program or something that tracks it for me?

I received an automatic update for quicktime yesterday. After the install, I noticed that Finder would flash and interrupt any application. It seems like I clicked off on the desktop when I am working. I then have to click on the application screen to continue working. This happens about every 2-3 minute intervals. When I restart the computer, Suitecase always opens up. Any ideas?? I have a G5 with 10.4.

When I begin the job, the CPU monitor indicates they are working hard, the fans come on and the machine gets hot...all indications it's doing the job. However - if I set it up to do the job overnight, when I come down in the morning the computer is asleep and stone cold, which suggests to me it has ceased processing the file.
f I wake it up - it resumes processing, getting hot again and so on.So how can I ensure it continues the job overnight? I've tried setting ' Never go to sleep ' in system settings ( screen still set to go to sleep ). That doesn't seem to work. When I set it to ' Never go to sleep ' in system settings, do I need to restart to make the settings active ( if I restart I lose all the work on the CAD file done so far! ).

I have a 17" unibody MBP (early 2009, specs below). It was running hotter than usual the other day, so I F2 booted into AHT to run a diagnostic. The status box within AHT showed 1 second into the 1st pass, and never got beyond that. Several seconds after that status message was displayed, the cursor froze. The time counter never advanced after that, and although I waited a long time, nothing happened. The test froze.Â
I've tried it several times more. It once worked, but every other time has frozen. Checking the "extended test" box, or trying to run in loop mode has made no difference - still freezes at "1 second".Â
I've had this machine for 3 years, OS's Leopard through Lion, and this has never happened before. I last ran a test, successfully, in January. I've not changed any components or suffered any damage since then. Memtest (ver 4.22) says my RAM is fine. (I ran this because the first portion of the AHT is the RAM component.) Aside from the aforementioned overheating episode, which disappeared, my machine's been fine.Â

My son's 17" imac PPC G5 was not booting up. After a trying a couple of things I got it to boot using Disk Warrior and reparing the file directory. At that time I also ran DW's hardware test which said the drive was fine. My son hard restarted it shortly after I fixed it and it wouldn't start up again. Just a gray screen, no apple logo. When I tried to use DW again it told me there were problems with the hard drive and it couldn't fix the problem. I tried to fix the hard drive in target disk mode using Disk Utiltiy and Drive Genius. No luck. So I pulled a working drive out of my Mac Pro and reformatted it and swapped the internal drive of the iMac with it. There were no DIP switches to set. Started up the imac with a Leopard retail disk thinking I would just install a fresh system onto the replaced internal drive of the iMac. Disk Utility on the leopard disk didn't see the hard drive. Now I'm beginning to think it's a logic board problem but I can't find the original disks to do a Hardware test with. Is there some other way to test a logic board? Or some other idea that I'm not thinking of that could be wrong with the machine?

if you recall a thread I started trying to get help on why the Mac Pro was crashing... I finally narrowed it down. After speaking to about 4 different people at apple.... they had me run the Apple Hardware Test off the boot CD.I took out EVERYTHING except the 2nd DVD burner (Apple Branded Superdrive from my old 2.5 Dual G5)... and ran the test. The Hardware Test ACTUALLY FROZE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RAM TEST.I thought I had bad aftermarket ram... as it wasn't playing nice with the Apple ram when I added them together.Looks like I had fine aftermarket ram... the Apple ram was bad.I REPLACED the Apple Ram with the Aftermarket Ram... and the Hardware Test completed fine. So, now I'm going to be calling them again in the morning and letting them know what happened. I wonder if they'll just let me RMA the bad ram, or if I'm going to have to lug this dang thing down to an apple store.I WONT BE HAPPY IF I HAVE TO DO THAT.Oh, and no more lockups since switching out the ram... and all the other quirks (not able to burn CDs in Windows, sloooow Internet page draws, etc...) are all but gone now.

I recently updated my MBP 3,1 to Snow Leopard.Because I have recently purchased the unit I decided to make sure all the firmware etc was up to date.I discovered that the Battery UpdateBundle 1.3 was not installed. Uopn trying to install the update I receive an error stating that the update requires 10.4.10 or newer to run.I am pretty sure that 10.6 comes after 10.4..Is there are reason as to why whis is occuring?

I'm a happy owner of a MBP 2010, 15" i5, 2.4GHz.
Before some days I noticed that Snow Leopard installed its update 10.6.4.
Well no big problem but I have a sense that the time remaining without using AC adapter has slightly fell. Before, using only firefox for example I could see about 6 hours remaining (some minutes after powering on my mac). Now it hardly shows about 4+.
Has any other noticed that?

I leave it to render with After Effects CS3, and when I come back, it is frozen! I have to shut it down by holding down the power key and start it up again. I have Leopard on this, Tiger never acted this way?

I have my macbook (2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Mac OS X 10.5.7) set to auto restart in the morning. This morning when i went to check it out it didn't restart due to one of my applications running. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem but still. There are several problems right now... I'm going to try and explain them all because i really want to get this solved
1) I haven't been able to restart or shut down my computer the "soft" way, it usually works but today I've had to hold down the power button for a hard shut down every time i want to restart. When i click shut down or restart it drops all the windows like its going to shut down but then it just stays at the point where my desktop is up
2) For some reason firefox wasn't loading when i clicked the application button, but safari would. I'm not sure if any other programs were affected but i re-downloaded firefox and it works again.
3) The computer it self is unbelievably slow, simple processes like copying files takes much longer, time machine stays at the "preparing" stage forever. Sometimes when i try to copy files to my external it works fine, but other times it says that parts of the files are missing and it can't copy them.
One of the solutions i read was to create another account, i did and it seems to be working at a normal speed but i still cannot shut down. I don't have the boot CD and would really prefer to keep my regular user account than the new one

I changed the username, passwords, background, settings, name of the harddrive and all that, but left her music and photos on for the time being. Then I turned it off for the night. I remember something popping off before it turned off, and I think it was just saying changes had been made or something like that. And I THOUGHT I had pressed okay to save those changes....it was late. But I turn it on this morning and it's practically gone back to basics. EVERYTHING is gone...no music, no photos. The settings and background are factory status. iTunes, iPhoto, and iChat are responding like I'd never used them. The only thing that stayed was my user name, the photo, and the name of the hard drive. I've looked through the computer and havent found anything. I couldnt have restored it, could I?

I have my main Mac in my bedroom. I like having it announce the time during the day but at night it wakes me up. I can manually turn it off at night but sometimes I forget. Is there a way to have it automatically turn off the Announce Time feature overnight and then automatically come back on in the morning?

Every few days I get this error message when my iMac wakes from sleep. The error is "The name of your computer (my computer name) is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to (new name). I must then go to Sharing and change name back to the correct name. My local Apple store advised me to go to Recovery and download new version of Lion. I did same, but this action did not stop the problem.

I bought a new MacBook Air 11" in April 2011 (as birthday gift to myself), but I wanted a larger screen, so I bought a new MacBook Air 13" in December. Now I notice that the 11" starts directly, much quicker than the 13", which needs up to half a minute to be ready. The marker does not move for 15 seconds. Why is it so, and what can I do to get the same quick start from sleep mode?Otherwise they are both fine.
