MacBook Pro :: Keyboard Not Working Properly After 10.6.4 Update

Jun 23, 2010

I updated to 10.6.4 the other day on my mbp 17" 2.93 mid 2009 model the other day. Since, my computer has developed two problems. first and most annoying, the keyboard doesn't work properly anymore. Shift keys don't work, then they do work. One side doesn't then the other side does. option and command do the same thing. Is this a documented problem? I searched and saw it was prior to 10.6.4, but I never had any problems until this update. Also, when I shut my computer, instead of going to sleep now. It goes crazy, fans jack up to full speed and it gets super hot. Doesn't sleep at all. Funny enough before the update, when i closed the lid the computer would go to sleep and wouldn't wake up.

Mac Pro :: Bluetooth Module - Keyboard Not Working Properly

Feb 23, 2009

I have had my Mac Pro for a few years now, and I rewired the bluetooth module when I first got it. I then had Airport installed about 3 months ago, and had to rewire it again because the "geniuses" at Apple didn't know the wires were labeled incorrectly. I just moved my computer downstairs and my Apple Bluetooth keyboard is not working correctly. It lags, repeats letters, etc. Upstairs on one desk, it worked fine. Down here, on a different desk, It's acting up. My keyboard is on the left middle of the desk, and the computer is on the floor on the right side. Total distance is less than three feet, with a file drawer inbetween. It works if I put it in my lap, but not on the desk. I just opened it up to check the wires again, and they are tight, and right.

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard Is Not Working After OS X Mavericks Update?

Aug 26, 2014

I have a 13" MacBook Pro that was purchased in January 2014. Recently I installed the recommended updates for OS Mavericks on my computer. I rebooted the computer as recommended and when I went to login lo and behold my keyboard will not function. None of the keys will work so I couldn't even put in my login password to even see what the problem was. Naturally I went to all the apple forums I could, to find a solution and none of them seem to work. I reset the PRAM and SMC and still cannot get the keyboard to function. While under disk utility the keyboard functions just fine. But It will not function in a regular setting.

MacBook Pro :: After Update Keyboard Shortcuts For Volume Control Not Working

Mar 12, 2012

I recently ran an update for my Macbook Pro. After the update, the volume keyboard shortcut does not work.I have the setting for the function keys to work like normal function keys so I have to press the fn key to change the volume. This does not work and changing the setting does not work. I cannot add a shortcut either. Whenever I push the shortcut, I get a grayed out screen with a symbol showing that I cannot change the volume. I can still make changes by clicking on the volume symbol at the top of my screen but I really need the shortcut back.

OS X :: Keyboard / Trackpad Not Working After Software Update

Dec 25, 2010

My macbook pro's (late 2008) keyboard and trackpad stopped working about a month ago. I've been trying to get it working again, but to no avail. It initially stopped working when I updated my software. It got stuck on the startup screen after restarting from the install, so I had to hard shut down and restart. When I turned it back on my keyboard and trackpad didn't work.

I restarted again and it worked. Since then it's been going in and out and now it's finally stopped working all together. Since I'm pretty sure it's a software issue I wanted to reformat my computer. Problem is that I can't hold down the option key to boot it from my install disk! And I had to type all this from my usb mouse, and type each key on the keyboard viewer.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: 10.7.4 Update Won't Update Properly, Has Caused Mail To Not Work

May 10, 2012

Started the 10.7.4 install, and it halted.  Turned my Mac off, started it back up, and apparently the 10.7.4 update didn't install, but it has caused the Mail function to not work AT ALL - I get a long error report that is auto sent to Apple.

I downloaded Lion from the Apple store, but have my Snow Leopard disk.  How do I go about re-installing Mail?

MacBook Pro :: Marware Keyboard Protector - Doesn't Fit Properly

Nov 12, 2010

I've been using a Moshi ClearGuard KB protector for a while but haven't been happy with the fact that it gets cloudy over time and requires frequent cleaning to restore. I bought the Marware keyboard protector shown here because it looks nice and shouldn't have the same issue with clouding. My only issue with it is that it doesn't fit properly over the enter and shift keys, so the wording on the protector itself is not lined up with the wording on the key below. Does anyone else own this protector? Does yours have the same issue? I'm trying to figure out whether mine is defective or if it's a design flaw.

MacBook Pro :: Why Won't It Startup Properly Without External Monitor And Keyboard

Mar 14, 2012

If I connect a external monitor and keyboard to my late 2011 Macbook Pro (running Lion) it starts up just fine. But if I try to start it up without these (or any other devices) attached, I get no display on the internal screen and the internal keyboard is ignored (the caps lock light doesn't light up when the key is pressed). However, I don't think it's a hardware issue, as a PRAM reset seems to work (I get the second chime) indicating that the keyboard is OK. And I get a second or so of grey screen before the screen goes black. I've tried resetting my SMC and my PRAM. The latter seemed to fix the problem once - but then it came back, and won't go away again this time. I've also tried starting in safe, single user, and verbose mode, but none of these seem to make any difference. I've been having some issues installing Windows (under both BootCamp and Parallels) but wouldn't have thought that these were related.

MacBook Pro :: Fails To Boot Properly After EFI Firmware 27 Update

Apr 16, 2012

I have a strange boot issue having (tried) to install EFI 2.7 update. When I restart the laptop, it 'chimes', displays a grey screen, then chimes, displays a grey screen, forever. I hit the bower (off) button for 5 secs or thereabouts, and restart, same thing. I do this 4 times and finally it reboots. But the EFI update still appears as needing to be installed (software update tells me it is not installed). Update history shows however that it IS installed.I can go through this process any number of times. I now have Software Update history showing quite a few installs opf the EFI 2.7 update. If I just do a restart without installing, I also go through the same fail to restart / fail to start / ... / eventually restart sequence.

So it seems now that the laptop will only start after 4 failed restarts and finally it starts. After starting it all appears to be perfectly fine.Nothing strange in the console logs that I can see.The failed reboots don't seem to register in the console logs - I suspect that the failure to restart is pretty early on in the boot sequence, well before it tries to load any semblance of the OSX kernel. It is almost as if it is trying to boot from someplace other than the disk ... until eventually it gives up and tries the disk. (I have tried booting with and without network cable - no difference) I don't know enough about mac bootup sequences to know if there is some config/setting that is screwed up causing this odd behaviour.

OS X :: MacBook Wireless Not Working Properly?

Sep 8, 2009

Starting about 4 months ago my 3 year-old 2.0GHz Core Duo MacBook's wireless started to not work very well. What was happening is that after starting the computer or waking it from sleep, it was able to connect to my network, but after about 5 seconds it would lose the signal despite being physically very close to the router without anything to block the signal. The problem progressively got worse, and at its worst it was only able to connect about 1 in 10 times. Either it wouldn't find the network at all, or it would find it but couldn't connect because "The connection timed out" or something like that.

I never bothered fixing the problem because my Mac was having a bunch of other issues at the time, so I was just going to fix them all by doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard once it came out.

So 3 days ago I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard (I formatted the harddrive then did a fresh install, not an archive and install). Unfortunately, it only kinda helped the wireless problem: I can now connect half the time rather than 1 in 10 times like it used to be.

I'm quite sure my network isn't the problem because everyone that has used my network in the recent past (which has been about 10 different PCs, Macs, and iPhones) hasn't had any problems. FYI, I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.

While it seems to work most of the time, I often have to move the cursor away from the button or click on a window as if to make it active in orer for the click to work. A similar problem is occuring in MS Word when I'm going through the spell check process - I have to sometimes click "ignore" multiple times or click somewhere else in that window for the click to register.

He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck.
