Aug 26, 2014I just bought the latest and greatest 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display in mid-2014. Every once in awhile, my screen will go dark. When I hit the touch pad, the cursor will show up and will move, on a completely black background. At that point I panic and start depressing the touch pad, when that doesn't work, I try depressing the on/off key; which does not respond at first, but finally the screen returns to normal.? NOTE: My operating system is OSX 10.9.4.

Aug 26, 2014I've got a brand new macbook pro 13inch and recently purchased two of the mini display port adapters to dvi.
Figured I would setup both my external monitors 1920x1080 and have 2 + 1 monitors for working.
Only once was I able to plug both of the monitors in and have them work. Every other time (100s) the laptop crashes.
I'm able to run one external monitor at a time, but not both.

MacBook Pro :: Retina 2014 Gets Really Hot / Even When Charger Is Not Plugged In
Sep 2, 2014I purchased a MacBook a couple of days ago and it has been fine. However, today I've realised that the back of it at the bottom is getting really hot, even when the charger is not plugged in. I am not using powerful apps either.Sometimes it can almost be too hot to touch for more than a couple of seconds. This happens on any surface, whether it's on my wooden desk or not.
The back getting hot also heats up the rest of the Mac to some extent. does it need seeing to and if so will I be charged?

Dec 2, 2014So, I'm very happy with my New Macbook Pro 13" Late 2014.
But I've noticed that the bottom of the Macbook Pro gets quite hot when I charge it while still using it. (Noticed it while watching streams.)
It usually sits on my lap and I'm making sure the gaps on the bottom sides are free to keep the airflow going.
When I use it normally: not watching streams, not charging. The Macbook just gets a bit warm while sitting on my lap

Mac Pro :: 2014 USB Keyboard Not Working For Login
Jun 27, 2014I have a Mac Pro 2014 with two thunderbolt displays and an apple USB keyboard. Whenever I boot up the computer the keyboard doesn't seem to work at first. Often I get hung up on the log-in screen pushing keys to no effect until the bluetooth keyboard dialog comes up. Then after that sits fruitlessly looking for a non-existent keyboard for about 30sec the USB keyboard will start to work. In total I'd say this delays logging in by about a minute. During this whole time the USB mouse and Wacom tablet work. After logging in everything works fine.
Also this might be related, if the computer goes to sleep it can take several attempts to wake it up before I'll get a login screen.

Dec 5, 2014Recently I purchased a brand new Mac Mini 2014 and sometimes I have this weird issue. Sometimes my mac has short freezes, i can't move cursor or type anything. when I reboot my issue is solved but I find it quite annoying that this is happening.
I googled this issue but didn't really find anything simular to my issue. It's like it running something very huge to process because if i move my mouse during the freeze it does move my mouse after the freeze.I monitored my memory but I haven't noticed anything strange (is it normal I only have 5-10% of my 8GB RAM left?)

Jun 11, 2012I have a MacBook 4,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor 4GB Ram. It is taking over 10 minutes to boot up past the gray apple screen when I turn it on. First I cleared the PRam (?) then I checked the disk using Disk Utility Verify, and it said the disk needed repairs. So I ran the disk repair and it said it was unable to fix the errors on the HD.
I did a little research and tried booting into the Single User mode, then running /sbin/fsck -fy. It said that it found errors but could not fix them. I ran it two more times as suggested and got the same result each time. I then tried rebooting and now instead of taking 10 minutes to boot up, it takes about 5 minutes on the gray apple screen and then just turns off. I started in Verbose mode to try to troubleshoot the error and it appears the last thing to come across the screen before power down is a message "Apple Yukon 2: RxRingSize <= 1024....etc".
I decided next I would run the Apple Hardware Tester. The test came back with an error code "4SNS/1/40000001:IG0C-0.265". I am very good at searching the web but I could not find any errors that had the IG0C or IGOC or any combination at the end, but plenty of 4SNS/1/40000000(1) errors with different endings. From what I can tell people are saying anything with 4SNS/1/4000000 is a logic board failure, but this computer was literally just booting this morning until I did the /sbin/fsck -fy.

Oct 13, 2010Is it possible to boot from an external Firewire DVD Drive? It certainly isnt from an external USB DVD. Real answers only please, not "I think so" ones based on HDDs or rumours you may have heard!...
Background:
I've got an MCE Optibay in my Mid-2010 i7 MBP. When installing Bootcamp it refuses to install from the external USB DVD drive. In the end I pulled the 2nd HDD out and reconnected the internal DVD. It then worked fine without a hitch. Then I reinstalled the 2nd HDD and all was fine for a few days.
Now I want to resize my Win7 partition (bigger, as MS Visual Studio's bigger than I thought, and I might stick some games on). I can shrink the OSX partition fine with Disk Utility, but windows won't grow the Win7 one because the empty space is before the Win7 partition, not after it. Apparently this can be done with GParted. Guess what? I can't boot the Linux based GParted CDROM from the external USB DVD drive! So, will a Firewire one work where USB fails, and solve my alternative OS booting issues? If I buy one I can then either use GParted, or delete the Win7 partition and start again without having to pull the laptop to bits all over again, only to put it back once I'm done, and possibly have the same issues in the future. Obviously I don't want to blow extra money getting a Firewire DVD drive though if it's a waste of money...
MacBook Pro :: Switching The Boot Drive (want To Boot From The Optibay) How Can This Be Done
Mar 28, 2010I run SSD/HDD, my HDD in the optibay is broken, I stuck it in a external and it makes finder freeze, it got bumped around too much so I want to put a new one back in the 'correct place' for a spinner, and stick the SSD in the optibay.(I figure the extra 2% of shock protection offered by the orange rubber circle things is worth the trouble of moving everything).
I am also going to buy a WD 3 platter 1TB laptop drive, and I read that they fit fine in the regular spot in MBP's (I'm going to open and measure in a min.)Anyways, there's no BIOS, only EFI, so how to I pick what drive to boot from? with 10.6 is it as simple as holding option down on boot, and picking my 'OSX' HDD, and then it will auto boot from that until I specify otherwise? (I ask because before 10.6 people on here were always talking about how to switch boot drives.)

May 13, 2010Just an FYI. Tech Support at Allsoft states The Disk Warrior 4.2 Boot DVD will not Boot the new 2010 MBP's. They are waiting for information (software) from Apple.
Will need to use Target Mode or another Mac connected with Firewire till then. Boot from that then run DW from your MBP.
MacBook :: Click Startup Boot Volumes But Nothing Happens - Won't Boot
Jun 25, 2010Im trying to reinstall osx from my flash drive. The problem im having is after i hold option and click on the flash drive icon to boot it, nothing happens the arrow icon greys out like its being click, but it does nothing.
I also tried installing from the dvd with the same result. Im posting here because I searched google far and wide and have come up with nothing. Anyone know whats going on here?

Feb 10, 2009Ok so my macbook just froze up on me, and I shut it off manually. However, when I tried to start it back up it would not boot up. I am just receiving a message telling me " You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button. "I did what the message told me to do, and when I started the computer back up I just received the same exact message. I tried to take the battery out and hold down the power button to discharge any electricity in the laptop, and then I plugged in the power cable with the battery still out, and I am still receiving the same error message.I have tried the same process a couple of times and put the battery back in and then I decided to try inserting the Installation DVD, and it did nothing different then what I have been getting.

May 11, 2009Just recently got back from a visit to my local Apple store in regards to a faulty power adapter. My Macbook started up fine at the store, as it has over the past two years. However, after getting home and trying to turn it on, the laptop fails to boot up. It sits at the grey screen with the Apple-logo and spinning progress circle, all while the fan starts to whirl as if my macbook were on fire. I've experienced a failed hard-drive before, so I know of the folder w/question mark screen, and this screen is not like that. I've also tried booting up in "Safe-Mode," but that won't work as well. I do have a start-up disk and external hard-drive... I'm just curious to see what other options I might have before reinstalling Leopard.

Jun 17, 2012I'm asking this question for my brother. He has a 15-inch MacBook Pro (late 2011). He recently reinstalled OS X Lion but now every time he boots his computer he ALWAYS gets the option to chose Macintosh HD or Lion Recovery disk. I'm tech savy but I've tried resetting the PRAM and everything else I culd think of but he still gets that same screen. He is not pressing the option key when booting it just does it automaticlly. Should I do reinstall OS X Lion aain for him or just take it back to Apple and have them look at it?

Sep 22, 2009I have tried zapping the pram, nvram, unable to boot from a disk, tried safe mode, tried verbose, did the single user /sbin/fsck -fy several times and it came back with everything appears OK. Tried the hardware test & no trouble found, did the short & long test.The MacBook is a college kid (friend of my youngest) that dropped it off last night and I am stumped. I thought it was surely the HD but all the test say it is fine.I cannot get it to boot from a disk either.

Jan 5, 2011I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.
Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)
Mac Pro :: Unable To Boot / Kernel Panic At Boot And Graphics Card Failure
Mar 9, 2008Yesterday my screen (30" Apple Cinema) started showing symptoms of graphics card failure, jagged lines across the screen. I rebooted my Mac Pro and it was gone. Then it happened again an hour later, this time the machine didn't boot, I get the Apple logo, and then it hangs up and the screen is shifted to left (I get apple logo on left side of the monitor instead of the middle) and jagged lines all over.
So the first thing I tested was using Target Disk Mode, it works. I can access my Mac Pro's internal HD's by TDM from my MacBook Pro. Then I tested single user mode, it does boot, I can't read what's written since the screen is shifted to left, but if I type (without seeing) reboot and hit enter, it reboots. So I assume the single user mode is working.
What else can I try to 100% make sure it's my graphics card that failed and everything else is ok with Mac Pro? I already ordered a graphics card replacement but I wouldn't like to be surprised if the Mac Pro still doesn't boot when the card arrives. It won't boot from Apple Startup DVD either. Same thing happens, gray logo then kernel panic with jagged lines all across the shifted screen.
IMac :: 27" Wont's Boot Up / Takes A Very Long Time To Boot?
May 15, 2010I have a 2 week old iMac 27", i7, 2tb Hard Drive, 16gb RM
In the second week the boot up times became very slow.
I would turn the machine on and get the chime within 5 seconds or so.
Then just a black/blank screen.
Eventually after about 10mins I would get a white screen then it would boot up normally.
Now the machine just doesn't get to the white screen. So I get the chime and then just darkness. It does sound like the machine is on (usual quiet imac whirring).
I've tried various key commands when I turn the machine on including pressing C with the install disk in the dvd drive and the alt, control, P, R pram reset.
I've also tried unplugging all the cables, leaving the machine for a minute and switching back on. I did manage to perform the PRAM reset once. I reset the machine and it booted fine.
But now when I switch it on just darkness.
I've called after sales and will try to get the machine replaced but in the meantime is there anything I could try that might make the machine work? I need to do a remix this weekend (deadline Monday) so really need to get it working.

Feb 2, 2012So my macbook pro already has 4 gb of ram, but i always heavily use my electronics, so i wanted to upgrade my ram. I bought the ram, it came in the mail, but when I tried it out, I got stuck on the white boot screen. The circle spinning got stuck.
HOWEVER, when I only used one stick in conjunction with one of the 2 gb sticks, everything works just fine.

Apr 8, 2012My mid 2010 iMac i7 will not boot past the apple logo? I'm running 10.7.3. I have tried restoring from TM backup from recovery mode (worked the last time this happened) however upon completion it returns to the recovery screen? I made a disk of Lion when I downloaded the first time (followed same instructions sourced from numerous websites) which does not seem to work when i set to start up from this disk, just gets to the grey screen and flicks between the apple logo, a folder icon with a question mark and the circle with line through? Now I can't eject the disk either, a message appears that system can't eject and to make sure all applications are closed? Not sure how to go about closing these applications without being able to start the system? When I tried booting from the Macintosh HD I got a message that the boot cache partition was faulty? I have ran disk permissions etc all ok.

Dec 20, 2007This is bad and old, and full of lessons about backing up. Anyway, internal boot drive crashed a week ago, and internal optical drive is busted. New external LaCie dvd burner works fine, but all attempts to start up from Tiger, Leopard and Diskwarrior installation disks just end up back in OS10.3 on my external LaCie FW drive. I've tried many things: unplugged everything; switched external LaCie to USB (wouldn't boot), unplugged power from internal optical drive so Mac wouldn't look there first (somebody suggested that). Attempts to start up installers from mounted DVDs result in installer screen with restart button, which, when clicked on, results in... you guessed it... boot back to dreaded 10.3 system. Night owls and westcoasters, I am up for hours yet, pulling hair.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Won't Boot Past Apple Screen & No CD Boot
Jun 11, 2007I have an iBook G4 1.07 GHz 30 gb 256 RAM with Panther. It was working fine until my HD got close to being full. Now I can't get it to boot past the Apple screen. It will either freeze there, or move on to the blue screen and freeze before the progress bar enters. I want to re-install Panther but I can't get any CD to boot during startup by holding "C", including the Panther OS CD, the Hardware Test CD, or the Tech Tool CD. I am able to boot to single user mode, where I type fsck -fy, and I recieve no errors with the hardware. I had this issue beore and my HD had to be replaced by Apple.

Dec 25, 2008This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .
Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.
And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .
So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.
And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )
OS X :: How To Make Boot Camp OS Selection Default Boot Screen?
Sep 17, 2009Is there a way to make the Boot Camp menu the default boot screen, as opposed to holding Alt? This is the latest SL release, if that matters.
I know this is possible in some manner, our networked iMacs all do it; they start up and give the option to boot OS X or Windows, with a countdown to boot the default OS. I'd just like the same thing to happen on my MBP.
