MacBook Pro :: Using Disk Warrior 4.2 Boot DVD To Boot System?

May 13, 2010

Just an FYI. Tech Support at Allsoft states The Disk Warrior 4.2 Boot DVD will not Boot the new 2010 MBP's. They are waiting for information (software) from Apple.

Will need to use Target Mode or another Mac connected with Firewire till then. Boot from that then run DW from your MBP.

OS X :: Unable;e To Boot From Internal Hard Drive / Use Disk Warrior To Repair Disk?

Apr 11, 2010

I am considering purchasing diskwarrior but want to make sure it can help my situation before I purchase it. My imac will not boot from the internal hard drive (Intel processor) When I use disk utility to try and repair the disk, I get error messages and it won't repair. I can see the HD but cannot repair it. When I connect using target mode with my mac book pro, the hard drive does not appear on my host (macbook pro) computer. I have reloaded OS X (Leopard) onto a firewire external drive and can boot my imac that way but I can not find my original internal Macintosh HD. Will disk warrior be able to help with this scenario. I would really like to access that internal Macintosh HD and retrieve my files.

MacBook Pro :: System Hangs At Apple Logo Boot Screen / RAM Not Allowing System To Boot

Jan 5, 2011

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.

Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)

MacBook :: It Won't Boot After Trying To Repair With Disk Utility, Cannot Boot In Safe Mode

Jun 11, 2012

I have a MacBook 4,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor 4GB Ram. It is taking over 10 minutes to boot up past the gray apple screen when I turn it on. First I cleared the PRam (?) then I checked the disk using Disk Utility Verify, and it said the disk needed repairs. So I ran the disk repair and it said it was unable to fix the errors on the HD.

I did a little research and tried booting into the Single User mode, then running /sbin/fsck -fy. It said that it found errors but could not fix them. I ran it two more times as suggested and got the same result each time. I then tried rebooting and now instead of taking 10 minutes to boot up, it takes about 5 minutes on the gray apple screen and then just turns off. I started in Verbose mode to try to troubleshoot the error and it appears the last thing to come across the screen before power down is a message "Apple Yukon 2: RxRingSize <= 1024....etc".

I decided next I would run the Apple Hardware Tester. The test came back with an error code "4SNS/1/40000001:IG0C-0.265". I am very good at searching the web but I could not find any errors that had the IG0C or IGOC or any combination at the end, but plenty of 4SNS/1/40000000(1) errors with different endings. From what I can tell people are saying anything with 4SNS/1/4000000 is a logic board failure, but this computer was literally just booting this morning until I did the /sbin/fsck -fy.

MacBook :: Won't Boot Up / Cannot Get It To Boot From A Disk Either?

Sep 22, 2009

I have tried zapping the pram, nvram, unable to boot from a disk, tried safe mode, tried verbose, did the single user /sbin/fsck -fy several times and it came back with everything appears OK. Tried the hardware test & no trouble found, did the short & long test. The MacBook is a college kid (friend of my youngest) that dropped it off last night and I am stumped. I thought it was surely the HD but all the test say it is fine.I cannot get it to boot from a disk either.

OS X :: Does Boot Camp 3.0 Support A Triple Boot System?

Sep 21, 2009

I have done some research on triple boot systems, and it appears that a third OS must be run virtually, but all the information I came across was a few years old. Microsoft is running a deal right now on Windows 7 for students so I would like to pick up a copy and try it out.

Is it possible to run 3 operating systems through Boot Camp 3.0? I am not interested in running a virtual OS.

Current Setup:
13" macbook pro
Snow Leopard and Windows XP through Boot Camp

OS X :: Disk Warrior Unable To Replace Startup Disk / Connect To TC To Transfer Across DW's Preview

Feb 18, 2009

Yesterday I switched on my macbook (Leopard) and got the flashing question mark. Ran all the resets and booted with disk utility which encountered an 'Invalid B-tree Node' when attempting to repair the disk. Additionally, the SMART status was verified.

I ran DW 4 last night, and performed the hardware tests which reported that the disk was operating like normal. The majority of my media files and additional work is backed up to my Time Capsule but I still have a folder of papers that are relatively new, and wanted to retrieve. While DW managed to reconstruct the majority of my drive (there seemed to be 15g missing - but it's just music files) including this folder, it couldn't replace the disk, as it encountered 'Serious Disk Malfunctions'.

So, via the Disk Preview I want to transfer my saved folders to my TC, but I don't appear to be able to locate it (via ethernet) through DW - even if it's connected when I boot up in DW. So, first request is: Can I connect to my TC to transfer across in DW's preview?

Second is: What are my options if DW can't replace? Do I need to take it into Apple and get a new HD (it's out of warranty)? It's possibly worth noting that I'm a student and have absolutely no money - so cost effective options are a bonus!

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Recover Files From Disk-warrior?

Apr 14, 2012

Laptop:  MacBook (White), 10.6
External: Lion 10.7.6

Booting from an external drive and running DW4 on MAC OS 10.7. Trying to recover from preview pane as my internal drive will not rebuild. The folders on the internal MacHD are visible in the preview but have "minus" on them and I will not copy. It is showing it has zero bytes and when I click on the copy from the preview pane I get a message that says the operation cannot be completed because I have insufficient privilages. My ultimate goal is to get out the home folder for the user and migrate the the user files to a new MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro :: Disk Warrior Didn't Work For Data Recovery

Jun 11, 2012

My hard drive decided to quit after only 22 months! Some files were backed up but my current photo albums were not. That's all I really need, I don't care about all the other junk. I've tried booting from the Disk Warrior cd, which Apple Genuis Bar suggested since they don't do data recovery.

So it there another way I can do this myself or should I just bring it to Fry's for $149?

Another question would be, after I recover the files, I'd like to upgrade my MacBook Pro 13 to a Solid State drive. I know I need a 2.5" SATA, but which brand/size is good for a $200-$300 budget?

MacBook Pro :: It Will Not Boot Due To Full Disk?

May 27, 2012

I had been trying to cleanup my MacBook Pro as the disk was almost full. However I wasn't thinking tonight and downloaded my mail. When I tried to reboot my laptop, it crashed. I then tried to bring it up in Verbose Safe mode. It tells me the disk is full then turns itself off. Is there anyway I can bring it up in Safe mode long enough to delete some files?

I think I'm running OS X Lion but aren't 100% sure.

MacBook Pro :: System Keeps Freezing On Boot

Aug 4, 2010

My early-2010 i7 MBP keeps freezing within minutes of boot. I just tried booting in safe mode, and it just froze for the 6th time in 24hrs (like the 4th in a row). I've never performed a time machine backup with this computer (I got it about a month ago), so a full restore would be an absolute last ditch option. Like I said, this keeps happening within a minute of boot. The screen is on, but everything completely locks up. The cursor can't be moved, keyboard doesn't do anything, etc. I have to keep forcing it to shut off w/ the power button.

Software :: Can't Eject A Bootable Disk Warrior CD?

Feb 15, 2009

I recently used DiskWarrior 4.1 (with Tiger) to check the disk of a Leopard Intel IMac.

All went well, but when I tried to restart and eject the Disk Warrior CD (by holding down the mouse button), the CD would not eject, the Mac restarted with Disk Warrior as the start-up volume.

It seems like it thinks the CD is the start-up disk. I tried the eject button too (at start-up).

I tied resetting the SMC with unplugging the power and cables, no luck either.

Also tried to reset PRAM (several times), but no luck.

MacBook :: Tried To Repair Using Disk Utility - No Boot Up

Feb 2, 2009

Yesterday I decided to Install Windows Xp on my Mac. I tried to partition it but BootCamp said, "Verifying failed. BootCamp can't partition disk." So I started reading about this problem on the Internet and I found out that I have to use the Mac OS X Installation Disk and use the Disk Utility to "Repair" the disk. I started Disk Utility and clicked "Repair". Many files were missing so it tried to repair it. So now when I start the Apple-logo and the loading-circle is "frozen", so it just loads and loads and loads and loads, and nothing happens. I decided to format the disk from Disk Utility but I can't format it! I can't do nothing! So now I cant start my Mac! If it is possible to take a backup or something before I format it, or keep the files it would be lovely!

OS X :: MacBook Won't Boot Tiger From Its Install Disk?

Dec 27, 2009

I was excited to get my hands on our family's 'family' copy of Snow Leopard to install on my MacBook running Tiger 10.4.11... I'd checked out tutorials on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loFUyDjCbK8) on how to clean install Snow leopard onto a blank hard disk, and was all set to bring my OS up to date...

I inserted the Snow Leopard DVD and restarted and immediately held down the 'c' key and then... 3 minutes or so of the loading icon ticking later and the DVD was rejected and I only had one button to click on, 'Macintosh HD' to start up from.

After re-trying several times I thought it was because I was trying to do it with Snow Leopard on my MacBook running Tiger so I tried restarting this time with disk 1 of the Tiger DVD. This was rejected too!

So currently I am not able to wipe my hard disk as far as I know because I can't get to this screen to start the process (unless it's possible to do from within Tiger and if it is then I'm just worried that if I wipe it and I can't restart from the DVDs then I'll be in even bigger trouble).

Has anyone encountered problems like these and does anyone know of a solution? I've never had any problems with my DVD drive in the past which leads me to suspect it's not because of that.

I'd like to know if it's possible to re-burn the ISO without the version number in the filenames as in the original solution, but with Disk Utility or something else that a Mac can use.

MacBook Pro :: New System Takes 7 Minutes Or More To Boot?

Dec 24, 2009

I'm just not having luck with my last 3 MacBook Pros. My new 2.8ghz 15" now takes over 7 minutes to boot to the login screen. Before this happened, I recently copied 139 GB in sound libraries to my system drive. Before I went to work, I quickly closed the laptop and put in my bag. When I took it out of my bag several hours later, the unit was off and battery practically at full charge. When I started it shortly afterwards, it took forever to boot. It would sit there at the grey screen with the spinning circle, then get to the blue background (just before you get to the login screen) and wait there for a while. Most of the time I think you can hear the hard drive churning.

Once you log on, everything seems to be normal. I'm curious if perhaps that 139GB copy did something to the OS to slow it down. FYI it has 274/ 500 GB of free space left. Perhaps the hard drive didn't have a chance to park when I quickly put the laptop in my bag and I damaged it? To complicate matters, I have the MCE optibay installed with a 320 GB hard drive loaded in it. The only thing I can think of is to back up, and reload the OS. This should tell me if it's software or hardware related.

Hardware :: MacBook Pro Won't Boot. / System Freezes

Mar 20, 2008

My dads MacBook Pro started acting weird first the screen would freeze up and the cursor could still move but there would be about an inch wide black line that would follow on top of the cursor wherever you moved it.

We thought it was a software problem so we booted it up off an external drive and it did the same thing after a few seconds of loading the finder, now it won't even boot, it loads the white screen with the apple, then it stops at the blue screen where it usually shows the loading of everything, once in a while it will get past that but it freezes with black lines over the cursor.

I've tried zapping the pram and i've held the power button down till it beeps i've also reset the pmu, so im out of ideas.
