I have a new Mac Pro (cylinder) running OSX Mavericks (10.9.4, up to date) which has an issue with power saving and disk I/O.
I have my display set to sleep after about 15 minutes of inactivity. I have turned off other power saver features. When this happens, any jobs I have running stop -- in this case, I was running a "dd" off a USB-mounted SD disk, which I wanted to run over night. Instead, it stopped and I had to restart it.
In a non SD-disk based Mac, this isn't a problem. The system just turns the display off and everything else runs.

I put my MBP to sleep. Opened the lid back up about an hour later and it was in Deep Sleep mode. I had to press the power button and wait for it to restore settings before I could do anything (greyed out screen, progress bar, etc).
Battery was still at 82%.
Anyone know what's up with this or have this happen with their computer before?

I've set my energy saver preferences to put the display to sleep after 10 mins and the computer to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity. The display sleeps but the computer always stays on, whether on battery or A/C. What's the problem here?

I got my computer yesterday, it's a iBook G4 OS X 10.5.8. The charger worked fine until around six o' clock. Then it wouldn't charge. We switched the power pack and it worked for an hour or so, and then the same thing. What can I do? I CANNOT take it to be fixed.

When I run the SMC 1.3 update, my computer just stops at a black screen, at which point I have to force shut down the computer and restart it. It then informs me that I need to run the update again.

On a day-to-day basis I run: Adobe PS, INDD, and AI, Microsoft Entourage, Firefox and iTunes. Just recently, after an upgrade to Leopard, I added Things and Simplify Media to the list. The problem that happens before (on Tiger) and now (on Leopard) is command+tab switching stops functioning and Expose hot corners and shortcuts stop working.
I'm pretty sure this isn't a Finder crash because before, on Tiger, I could quit+restart Firefox and everything would be back to normal. Almost as if some shortcut had causes the system to act differently or there was some app dissonance?
But now, with Leopard, nothing I quit will cause these two features to act properly until I do a restart. Both features (command+tab switching and expose) are very necessary for my work flow. I have checked SysPref to make sure keyboard shortcuts are default and Univeral Access to make sure assisted devices is turned off.

I think I have a slight issue with my 7200rpm 500gb seagate drive. Once or twice every hour it seems to stop and start up again. Kinda klicks. It causes my computer to freeze for about 3 seconds. Whats causing it? Is it faulty? I should also mention that it didn't do this when i first got it. This is the model without the SMS.

When I am doing an update software for my OSX 10.6.8 the looking for update bar only goes about 1/3 across the bar then stops and idles with the blue lines still moving. This happens on both Firefox and Safari. Is the apple server busy or is this a sign of the flashback trojan horse?

I've own an apogee duet for that last year, and have had zero problems. I just got the ensemble the other day for recording drums. I followed the install instruction carefully, updated all software, and firmware. And the interface wont show up in my system preferrences (the ensemble and the duet).
I swapped the firewire cables and still nothing shows up. I plugged the ensemble into my friends lab top, and it see's it right away.
So I thought maybe my firewire port isn't working...But when I go to the apple menu, and then "About this Mac" and hit "more info", "system report" under the Hardware tab at firewire... it says the ensemble is plugged in?

Here recently when I've been watching videos on YouTube, The Video will load to a certain point then after that it stops and when the video gets to that point it just pauses and stops. To be able to watch farther into the video I have to keep refreshing my computer every time this happens and sometimes it loads farther, and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried to reset Safari, Deleting cookies, Deleting history, but nothing worked?

i've been having some problems with my 27" iMac (2011). I was playing a game (Diablo 3), when suddenly there was a kernel panic, so I had restart my computer. I started the game again, and there was another panic. After that, every time I login everything works great for 5 minutes, then the screen goes black, and it just stays there, nothing happens. I've tried restarting the computer many times, but it just keeps crashing.

Got a Mac OS X Version 10.7.4 last week and first off it was fine the Internet connected perfectly and was the fastest connection I've seen. But this morning I came down and it connected for 5 minutes and then although it appeared to be working (The wifi bars were full) the internet wouldn't search for any sites. All the while my iPod and laptop still connected. I did a clean-up of the Mac but that didn't make a difference. It seems to be able to connect for that first 5 minutes every time I restart the computer, but you can't do anything in 5 minutes. I need to correct this, do you have any idea how?

I recently bought a new Kensington Slimtype keyboard for my PowerMac G4 (dual 867mhz); it's running Leopard and everything other than this is working beautifully. For some reason, whenever it goes to sleep, it turns the brightness down to it's lowest setting - not a huge problem, I just turn it back up. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if they are, how did they rectify it?

I have a Mid09 13in MBP.
I noticed that when I put it in sleep, the USB ports still get power. Is there a way to make it so they turn off when it sleeps? I have a cooling plate attached so I have to unplug it every time I sleep it, gets pretty annoying when I forget and I unplug the USB plug and the MBP turns back on. My mouse/keyboard are BT so it wakes it that way, not by USB.
And is it bad for me to have the laptop running with the lid closed? I don't know if the heat would affect the screen or not. I'm currently not doing this because I'm not sure about the effects of the heat on the screen, but I do use a cooling plate, average temps are 120-130*F.

my eMac is somehow shutting down after going to sleep. I've checked the system preferences under energy saver and there are no schedules set for the machine to turn on or off. It does not happen immediately. It usually happens after a day or so. When I return to wake up the machine, it doesn't respond. I then have to start it from the start button. I don't get any error messages regarding the machine shutting down in the wrong way...just boots up normally.
I've had it for 5 years and this is the first time this is happening.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Can my machine be "infected" and controlled externally?
