I got my computer yesterday, it's a iBook G4 OS X 10.5.8. The charger worked fine until around six o' clock. Then it wouldn't charge. We switched the power pack and it worked for an hour or so, and then the same thing. What can I do? I CANNOT take it to be fixed.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro (the newer silver models 2011) often stops charging, I have to unplug the charging pin and connect it again. It has turned it self off quite a few times on sudden power failure, mostly because it went under power while I assumed it was still charging. After that it also looses time and date settings.

My 2009 MacBook Pro won't at the same socket for long. Charges for a while then I have to move and plug into the socket on the other side of the room. There is still power running through the sockets lamps on etc. and often the charger will show just green.

Then I can reboot work for half an hour until battery is like 50% then it shuts off again... then I can reboot again and work for some more time. I've checked with coconut battery and when the computer stops at 70% I still have like 1700 mAh...I've reset PRAM, power management, etc...
Of course my battery is old, but it should work until 00%... not stop at 70%. Before I spend like 100$ (that is what a macbook pro battery costs here in Mexico) I'm willing to try anything...
I was on a long bus ride and woke up in the morning and noticed everything under my seat was wet including about two inches of one end of my black MacBook. It was in one of those ubiquitous neoprene cases and while not submerged in water it was pretty wet. Oh, and I guess I don't know if it was water or not, but it didn't have an obvious color, smell, etc.
Anyway, I took out the battery and left it out for a little over a day hoping it would dry. When I put it back in and opened it up it seemed everything was working well and I worked on it under battery power for a little while. It suddenly shut off with the battery around 23% (it usually dies at 8%, I don't know why) and when I plugged it in and started up again the battery showed it was charging for about 10 or 20 seconds then said "Not Charging" then I got the little battery with an 'X' in it meaning there is no battery connected.
If I take it out and put it back in again it does the same thing (says it's charging for a moment then ends up with the 'X'). The odd things is that the water was on the non-battery end of the computer, it was on the end with the CD drive, which seems to be working. Okay, right, so is there anything that can be done? Is this battery just a nice, black paperweight? Is there reason to believe that something other than the battery has a problem?
If this battery is toast, where is a good place to buy a new battery? Do official Apple resellers sell them? I'm in Argentina right now and I don't think they have real Apple stores.
My girlfriend's 06 or 07 white macbook is starting to stop charging pretty often. Sometimes toying with the plug or turning it around fixes it, but then it will stop again. She tried it with my roommates plug which seemed to work fine.

On a day-to-day basis I run: Adobe PS, INDD, and AI, Microsoft Entourage, Firefox and iTunes. Just recently, after an upgrade to Leopard, I added Things and Simplify Media to the list.The problem that happens before (on Tiger) and now (on Leopard) is command+tab switching stops functioning and Expose hot corners and shortcuts stop working.
I'm pretty sure this isn't a Finder crash because before, on Tiger, I could quit+restart Firefox and everything would be back to normal. Almost as if some shortcut had causes the system to act differently or there was some app dissonance?
But now, with Leopard, nothing I quit will cause these two features to act properly until I do a restart. Both features (command+tab switching and expose) are very necessary for my work flow. I have checked SysPref to make sure keyboard shortcuts are default and Univeral Access to make sure assisted devices is turned off.
My Macbook pro is not charging. If I move the cord (specially at the Macbook charging port) it charges. But again if the cord is slightly disturbed then it doesn't charge. The problem got worse as my Mac randomly shuts down (especially when I remove the mag at the Macbook charging port). I dono what to do. Apple care (Genius) is far from my place.There is no visible physical damage on my mag charger. Could anyone suggest what I should do? When I run the SMC 1.3 update, my computer just stops at a black screen, at which point I have to force shut down the computer and restart it. It then informs me that I need to run the update again.

I closed the computer and came back an hour later, and the light on the charger was still green and not amber. I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging." I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have. It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old. It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential. The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening. The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.

I think I have a slight issue with my 7200rpm 500gb seagate drive. Once or twice every hour it seems to stop and start up again. Kinda klicks. It causes my computer to freeze for about 3 seconds. Whats causing it? Is it faulty? I should also mention that it didn't do this when i first got it. This is the model without the SMS.

I wonder if Mac forces user to use mouse to hit certain buttons...or it's just a different set of key control
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo for a while I've had AT&T DSL, and it works great. But in the beginning it didn't. All the time, the DSL would lose connection or something so the dsl light would turn red on the modem. It was really frustrating, and we had multiple people come over to try and fix the the problem, but it was never resolved.
That whole time I was mainly using Safari, and it only happened when I was using Safari. Once I realized that, I stopped using it, and went back to firefox. I had no problems with my internet up till now. I tried using safari recently because I really liked the speed because I have snow leopard (I was using safari a bit while I still had cable internet and no problems). The same thing is happening again.
The DSL light suddenly turns red on my modem/router (it's a 2 in 1) while using Safari. It just happens randomly- i cold be surfing for a minute, and then it will just cut out. I have Mac OS X 10.6.2, and it has all the updates. I'm also running the most current version of Safari. I've just tried to reinstall safari, but it still is doing this.
Anyone had this issue? I'm running Windows 7 (Mac Pro 200) with Bootcamp 3 drivers, every thing seems fine, but it appears that after awhile the graphics card fan seems to stop. Has this happend to anyone?, I downloaded the Catalyst drivers so can hopefully turn the fans on manually but this is'nt ideal.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a PowerBook G4 with a fairly old battery (not sure exactly, maybe around two years). Recently, the battery went from a maximum of holding about 16% (compared to original) charge to 12% to not holding any charge. If the computer isn�t plugged in, it won�t even stay in sleep mode, it will just shut off. When I click on the little symbol in the upper right corner of the screen, it says �Battery is not charging� even when it is plugged in. I�ve had really old batteries before and they would barely hold any charge, but never before has it said �Batter is not charging� while it�s plugged in.
I�m wondering if there is any way to tell if this is just a bad battery, or if perhaps something is wrong with the way the computer charges the battery. I�d like to order a new battery, but I don�t want to pay a bunch of � and have the computer not be able to recharge it. Any advice? I don�t have any spare batteries to try, obviously, or I�d just plug those in.
I use my laptop in my office and i like to just have it plugged in until i need to go somewhere...
Question: Is it bad for the battery life to keep it charged for 7-8 hours a day or just charge when the batt life is very low...
