My iMac (27", late 2013, Yosemite) starts using the power button. A black screen, white Apple logo and progress bar appear. When progress is at ca. 50% the computer powers off.
My imac is about 18 months old. Latest software download. Will not start up properly. After the Apple Logo, sign comes up on the screen stating "startup disk is full".
I am having trouble starting my 21" iMac running Snow Leopard after I had shared the HD with my MB-Pro. I had removed the "everyone - Read Only" rights on the HD (on the iMac) and opened sharing so my MB could attach to it. Grey Apple Logo and progress circle upon startup now.Can changing these rights cause the system to not boot? I can go into single user mode but I am not sure what to do then.
iMac won't start up after failed upgrade install, all I have is a folder in the middle of my screen. And it won't allow me to reinstall my restore discs....
My 2009 mac has been telling me the start up disk is full so I thought to save iphoto and itunes to an external drive. But I have been advised to upgrade the os first as I am still on snow leopard. Before I buy lion (I can't wait for mountain lion) can I upgrade while the start up disk is full? Or will it not let me (it won't do the updates that are coming through at the moment)? If I save iphoto and itunes to the external drive first will I still be able to access them/ properly?
Upon starting My Intel iMac, it stops at the Apple logo. I have restarted it several times and tried to hold down the "r" key while starting to enter the restore mode...nothing but the Apple logo. OSX 10.7.5
I just want to let you know that I am really thankful for your help.
This is a 3-year old iMac version 10.4.11 I upgraded Safari as recommended a few days ago, and since then, Safari has not worked at all. At the same time, I was warned that my startup disk was full. Following the advice from some other mac help sites, I cleared the copies of my iTunes library to free space. I now have 6.72 Gigs of free space on my hard drive, but my computer is still running super slow. Just about every other thing I click on in Firefox gives me the rainbow wheel. I ran Techtools and everything passed but the Directory Scan and Volume Structure.
As soon as a friend can loan me a hard drive, I was planning on backing up everything and re-installing. Is this the best thing to do, or is there something else to try first?
my macbook pro won't start up...it begins to boot up but stops short before the screen comes on. the light which indicates that the computer is on dims and the booting.stops.
I have a 27" iMac purchased in July 2011. I never had any issues with the trackpad before upgrading to Mavericks. I upgraded a few months ago and started having sporadic issues with the trackpad. When the iMac woke up, everything seemed fine at first. About once or twice a week, after it had been working for about a minute (just enough time to start web browsing), the trackpad would suddenly stop responding. It then progressed to being more consistent (every other day). The cursor was still visible and the keyboard still worked. The trackpad was still on but apparently not connected. I thought it was the batteries, but new batteries didn't work. I could get the trackpad to work again by using Spotlight to open the Bluetooth System Preferences. The trackpad worked immediately when Bluetooth preferences were opened (nothing needed to be changed; it would just start working).
However, it would stop responding after about ten minutes. It was interesting because even if I left the Bluetooth System Preferences open, it would still stop responding after about ten minutes. I could use the keyboard to make the preferences window active and it would immediately work again. It would then work again for a few minutes and then stop. I found that removing the trackpad and re-connecting it would cause the trackpad to start working again more consistently. It would only stop if the iMac went back to sleep for an extended period (overnight).
The useful keyboard shortcuts are cmd + spacebar to open Spotlight, type bluetooth, use the arrow keys to go to Bluetooth system preferences (hit enter), use the arrow keys to go down to the trackpad, press spacebar to unconnect, again to confirm, and then after the trackpad is automatically rediscovered, press spacebar again to pair it.
This went on for about a month, when I had what I suspect was an unrelated problem. The trackpad started acting as if it was being held down (left click was always being pressed). I took it into the Apple Store and they confirmed it was broken. At that point I had a brand new trackpad.
The issue had gone back to happening every other week or so. I thought it might be interference, but I've since physically moved apartments and all the objects around it. It's been a couple months now and it's back to happening every couple of days or so. Since the trackpad is brand new, I have to think this is a software issue. I've noticed the following consistently:
1) It only stops responding if I've put it to sleep (I usually do so with a hot corner, but I don't have any reason to believe that's related) and haven't used the computer for more than 12 hours.
2) It'll always work right when it wakes up. It'll stop fairly consistently 1 - 2 minutes after waking up.
3) Time Machine seems to be busy doing something when the trackpad stops (the little icon is spinning in a circle if I have a Finder window open). Uncertain if it's always doing something or if it's coincidence that I've noticed it more recently.
4) As mentioned above, opening the Bluetooth System Preferences will always get the trackpad to respond, but then it'll stop after a few minutes. Unpairing and reestablishing the pairing will fix the issue for awhile (at the very least until the next time the iMac sleeps).
5) I may be imagining this, but before upgrading to Mavericks, I think it used to show the message that the trackpad was connected when the iMac woke up. I no longer see that message unless I remove the connection and setup the pairing again.
I've seen lots of people with various issues with Bluetooth connectivity and Mavericks. I'm on 10.9.4.

We've got a 17" G5 iMac and a 20" Intel iMac that need to switch places and users. The easiest thing for me, would be to just swap out the internal hard drives. They both have Leopard installed, but I don't know if the different processors get dedicated system software installed, or can I just swap 'em?
I recently reset my imac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo to factory settings to completely erase the hard drive and start over. In doing so, I also deleted the OS 10.6.8 operating system that I had upgraded to. I had purchased the upgrade from the app store and it was easy to install at the time. Now, I am trying to access the app store to find that previously purchased app and re-install it BUT I cannot access the app store with my current browser and I can't upgrade my current browsers with my current operating system (10.4.11)...
iMac makes normal startup after had been put into sleep..One strange behaviour can be observed with iMac Late 2013.At the end of day the user puts the mac into sleep. On next day pushing the power button is necessary to activate the mac.
The main point is that iMac starts up as it was shut down at the previous day(this is conclusion based on screens shown after mac activation).
User expectation is, that on next day when activating it the mac show screens as it was leaving sleep instead of showing screens typical for normal startup (after hard power down).
I was off of my iMac for an hour or two so my screen saver when on. I went to wake the computer and it was frozen. I tried using the keyboard and mouse to wake up the computer from the screen saver, but it would not work, so I powered the iMac down manually from the button on the back. I let it sit for 15 minutes, then I tried to start the computer up again. Now at start up, I get to a blank white screen with the spinning moving pin wheel, and that is it.
I have an iMac and it is about 4 years old. For some reason it is very slow starting up, takes about 90 seconds. Opening even a normal app like Firefox takes sometimes 2 minutes.
I had the harddrive replaced as part of one of the recall programmes form Apple as the OEM drive was malfunctioning, that made it slightly better, but soon after the old poor performance was back.
I am fixing this 2007 iMac for free for an autistic child. Apparently, changing computers for someone that is autistic isn't ideal. I don't have the history with this iMac, just that it isn't working. They supposedly did have the hard drive replaced? It sounds like a dvd is inside it when it starts up, could be the installation dvd?Either way, I have not seen it before where the Apple logo refuses to show on the start up screen. It just stays gray.
1. I've tried zapping the PRAM. Didn't have any changes.
2. I tried starting up in safe mode, but getting passed the apple logo is required for that
3. I tried single user mode, but getting passed the apple logo is required for that
4. I tried holding the c key to start up off of the dvd, nothing happens
5. I tried holding the mouse button (and cmd, opt, f, o) to manually eject the dvd during start-up.
I recently bought a new iphone 5S and in order to access my current itunes it says I need to update itunes to 11.1. In order to upgrade to 11.1 it needs and OS of 10.6.8. My iMac is only 10.5.8. Can I upgrade this imac's operating system? How?
I have a mid-2010 iMac running 10.6.8. It has 4GB of memory and over 500GB of available space. It meets all required upgrade specs, but when I try to upgrade to Mavericks, I get the following Alert during the Mavericks download: OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I'm trying to sort out a problem with a mid-2007 iMac. When trying to start it up normally it would get past the Apple screen, then go onto a blue screen with a cursor and stay there.
I made a bootable Snow Leopard USB drive to try and repair the disk / re-install the OS. Plugged in the USB drive, and tried to boot the iMac into startup manager by holding down the option key. But instead of showing the volumes to launch startup manager, it keeps bringing up a grey screen with the Firewire logo on, which I believe is what happens when launching into Target Disk Mode.
How do I get my imac to recognized the 4G memory upgrade I just inserted (from 2G factory)? It isn't running faster and the "about this mac" still says 2G.

So i have an Imac from around 2006, id IMac 7,1 with no upgrades, just the basic. Its currently on 10.5.8 software (Leopard), but i do have the dvd disc for snow leopard (10.6). Is it possible to upgrade the software on the mac, as i heard it wasnt from a friend. Also if i can use the disc to upgrade, what would happen to all the programmes (e.g word, photoshop) and pictures, videos etc. or would it be totally fine?
