View 1 RepliesSince a couple of days, my screen (iMac 27" mid 2011) turns off. Also, half of the screen looks darker. Is it a hardware problem or maybe can be solved by software?

when i am booting up my macbook pro it will just stall at just before half way and i will have to shutdown and turn on again. It will happen 3-5 times until it finally works. But sometimes it works the first time. This started to happen about 1 month ago after i installed OS X Yosemite.

Macbook pro intel core duo. My macbook is turned off, when I press the power button the light goes on and the computer starts making sounds of turning on for about half a second and than shuts off. I tried removing the battery and putting it again, I tried to hold the power button (the light flickers at one point and eventually shuts off as well after 2 seconds), and tried turning it on with the adapter plugged in and unplugged.

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like when scrollbars are going black: URL....At first it was doing it about 1 time every 5 minutes but now it has become literally unworkable as it hangs every 20-30 seconds.
View 10 Replies View RelatedAt the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.

I've been successfully running Leopard on 2 different drives on the following computer
G-4 (digital audio) 733 {model before Quicksilver}
upgraded to 1.47 GHZ....processor. 1 gig of memory
Computer has been handling Leopard fine up to now. I was updating one of the drives to 10.5.3 when the screen activity locked up. After quite a long time and ceasing of drive crunching data....I did a hard restart. Since this time, the drive wont start up,. just the spooling rotor underneath the apple on the gray screen, which doesn't stop. There is no time-machine backup on this drive. I've used the Leopard install disc to run the disc utility and repair permissions but this is a case of an update, half installed. Of course, with Leopard, booting with the install disc does not show the drive, disc image on the desktop...so access for re-running the update isn't there.

I was on Netflix but all of a sudden my MacBook crashed, it wouldn't do anything, so I held the power button until it turned off. But when I tried to turn it back on, the booting wouldn't complete. It turns on, I hear the chime, I see the apple logo and the "turning on" screen but out of nowhere it turns off. What should I do?

I have a MacBook Pro with the 9600gt in it. Since updating to 10.6.4 this morning 2 times while playing java games i've had the bottom half of my screen go black and most of the top half flicker. I've had to hold in the power button and reset both times. The second time I closed the screen and reopened it, the screen was black but no mouse and nothing moved.
Any advice? Would this be something to do with my graphics card or possibly some error in 10.6.4?Edit:: This is software related to 10.6.4 update and only happens when I open up a java game in a browser.
I started up iTunes, checked my email, and looked up to see the top half of my display drop about 15 shades darker than the bottom half! I called Apple Care who told me they had never heard of something like this before and advised me to call the nearest Apple Store. I did, and like Apple Care, they had never heard of this happening.

On a day-to-day basis I run: Adobe PS, INDD, and AI, Microsoft Entourage, Firefox and iTunes. Just recently, after an upgrade to Leopard, I added Things and Simplify Media to the list. The problem that happens before (on Tiger) and now (on Leopard) is command+tab switching stops functioning and Expose hot corners and shortcuts stop working.
I'm pretty sure this isn't a Finder crash because before, on Tiger, I could quit+restart Firefox and everything would be back to normal. Almost as if some shortcut had causes the system to act differently or there was some app dissonance?
But now, with Leopard, nothing I quit will cause these two features to act properly until I do a restart. Both features (command+tab switching and expose) are very necessary for my work flow. I have checked SysPref to make sure keyboard shortcuts are default and Univeral Access to make sure assisted devices is turned off.
I have an iMac 27". The left half of my screen started flickering, and now it is quite darker than the right side (facing my computer). Do I have to bring it in to the store or is there a fix?

1.- The imac turned off by it self.
2.- I tried to turned on pressing the turn on/off button and it did not do anything.
3.- I disconected the computer form the wall and wait for some minutes, and it did no do anything.
4.- After about 20 minutes i tried again and turned on by pessing the on and off button.
5.- The imac turned off again and disconected form the wall and conected to another electrical contact at the wall, adn it did not turned on. i wait for some minutes and turned on again, but after about five minutes it turned off again.
6.- I left the imac connected to the wall for a couple hours and i tried to turned onn by pessing the on/off button and it did not turned on.
7.- I left all night connected form the wall and tried to turn it on this morning and it did not turn on.
8.- This time, I only disconnected the imac cord form the back of the computer and left it for a couple of hours, then I concected and turned on
9.- All the times that the computer turned on it started like a restart and no announce or windows appear telling me about an error or something like that.
10.- One of the times I touched the computer at the back and felt it hot, not too hot, but I do not how normal is.
11.- I can feel some very, very little air at the back form the vent.
What do I hve to do? What kind of tests can I do to know if the computer's an is working ok?

I got home to find my mac was unresponsive. I thought it had fallen to sleep so i kept pressing keys on the keyboard and clicking the mouse. Nothing happened, I tried everything. So I turned it off by holding down the power button and turned it back on. But then 10 mins later while using it, the screen just instantly turned off! The iMac was still running, it even had the music still playing in the background from iTunes, but again it was unresponsive to my commands. After 1 minute the music turned into an awful static cry for help. So i turned it off. Here i am again on the Mac after turning it back on, but i'm scared it could just go again any second.

I read a lot about that issue but I found replies about imacs that wont turn on. But my Imac after the problem, turned on one time.
My issue is that my imac was working like a charm. The day before yesterday, at night, i had an automatic update of firefox and after i switched it off normally.
The day after, at morning, I tried to turn it on but it was behaving like it was not attached to the electricity.
I started to read and I found all that solutions so I did the following:
1. Tried other cables (for power supply)
2. Tried other plugs (in different rooms)
3. Put out the ram sticks and cleaned with a blow dryer the sticks and the space inside the imac so the dust goes out.
4. Tried the reset of SMC with no success as it could not be turned on
I tried everything and after I leaved the mac alone, (3-4 hours) and after i just clicked the button and it was on. I left it all night long switched on so that i save my data and I found it on, this morning.
So this morning I did everything to reset the SMC. I put it in sleep mode, restart it, shut it down, put out the cable for 15 sec, put it back, wait 5 sec, but it wont turn on again. I know that there are a lot of responses for the same issue, but I didn't find one that the imac turns on periodically.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy AppleCare just ran out a little while ago and now my iMac is starting to shut off. Usually, in iMovie and iPhoto but today if I plug a USB Memory stick in I lose connection to my Bluetooth devices. Yesterday, everytime I tried to open a .pdf file on the USB drive the computer would shut off. I am fairly certain it is the logic board? I wish this had happen a couple months ago then it would have still been covered.
