Intel Mac :: ICloud Mail Continually Goes Offline
May 7, 2012
If the mail application is close, iCloud mail goes offline, although my other email accounts in the mail app do NOT go offline. When I open the mail app, there is a symbol next to the iCloud account (but not next to the others) that looks like a circle with a horizontal zig-zag. When I click on that symbol I get the following message: "This account (iCloud) appears to be offline due to a network problem." If I click the button in the dialogue box that says, "Take all accounts online,", then my iCloud mail comes in right away. However, all my other mail accounts already are delivered. It is not a network or connection problem.

Suddenly Mail has stopped sending emails. Connection Doctor says server is 'offline' and I should ensure passwords and settings are correct. But I changed NOTHING - it just suddenly stopped sending and receiving!
I'm using a late 2012 iMac and a Retina MacBook Pro, both with very latest OS - same problem on both. I've restarted my TimeCapsule and BT HomeHub

In trying to send an oversized video via email (exceeded 25 MG) size limit, I got an error message. I thought I deleted the email. However, whenever email is open, the message continually gets recovered, blocking any email from being recieved. I am able to create and send emails. Internet checks out ok. Using AOL.iMap. It seems that I am not able to interrupt the continual attempts to send the original email.

I was setting up the mail app on Leopard to work with Gmail, but the app won't go online.
I think the problem was that I left a box unticked during the ADD ACCOUNT.
Is there any way I can go back and fix it?

Most of my user base uses Windows but we do have a few Mac Users thrown in and not many techs that are proficient with Macs.
I have a customer with Mac OS 10.5.6, Mac Mail 3.5 (930.3) on an IMAC 9,1 (?).
He uses our pop email and also as a .mac mail account. For about the past week, both email accounts have been going into Work Offline status on their own. He has tried forcing in Take accounts online, and while the status does show online, he is not able to send or receive mail from either account, and it throws him back into offline mode. He is able to access the internet via Safari and he can access his email (through us) from the web and on his iphone. Eventually, the mail program will go back to online, on its own and he is able to send and receive mail like normal.
I have scoured the forums and seen a few people having the same issue and got it fixed, but none of them said how they fixed it. Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there is any additional information that I can provide.

I don't understand that function in MAIL about Take Online and Take Offline. Just what is this thing for? In Online Status in the Mailbox menu, it shows my mailboxes and their status. Is this a way of NOT checing mail for certain boxes? If they are all set to Go Online then I assume all mailboxes get check when pressing command/shift/N, correct?
Is there a reason some of them would go offline on their own?

Mail has worked flawlessly for four years. Over the past several days, mail has continually gone off line when I am connected at home. My network is working fine (I am online and can receive and send info from skype/webpages, etc.) and when I connect through webmail I can send and receive messages. I have four mail accounts configured through the Mail, each is imap configured to a separate Gmail account. Each account shows the ! error which reads "The server error encountered was: The connection to the server imap.gmail.com on port 993 timed out." I can take my laptop to any other network and all the accounts go online and are completely fine for the entire session. Then when I return home they go offline again. I have tried to eliminate my wireless network from the equation by direct connecting to the cable modem, but the issue remains.

I use Mail, and have two accounts - one is POP and one IMAP. The one I use most is a gmail IMAP account. I've been sending and receiving e-mails all day, but suddenly both accounts are offline. Mail asks me repeatedly for the password, but when I put it in it doesn't accept it. I went online to gmail and find that the sign on and password still work and can see my mail there, but I want to get it in my computer.

For the longest time i've been using Gmail and also the offline lab feature that allows me to access my gmail via the web browser. Rather than me going into a big explaining here i'll just mention i'm befuddled on whether to stick with Gmail's offline use or switch things up to Apple's Mail; reason in doing so is i've recently been noticing how some apps like OmniFocus play nice with Apple's Mail. Also having a Gcal account and using it I can't but help and prefer Gcal tenfold over iCal. But Gcal's offline use sucks for me when using Firefox. It's always a gamble when I'm offline and want to check my Gcal, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I'm not a big fan of iCal but have it always sync'd with Gcal so am currently using iCal...and am thinking about using Mail now. I just feel I enjoy Gmail's search, starring and folder system.
Plus I think I remember that when I include my account in Mail I see it downloading the 3GB's of Mail I have..and even though i'd assume Gmail would do the same, I never see where it goes which rests uneasy with me..

After many years of using Mail, my outgoing mail server is suddenly offline. My wife's mail, with identical settings is not offline. We do not use iCloud for our mail. I have several mail accounts and they all show outgoing (Offline). The outgoing mail server is SMTP.WEST.COX.NET. For me, of course you can add (Offline).

I am having a problem with the mail app on a late 2010 MacBook Air. Specifically, all accounts are offline after resuming from sleep. I am running apple mail (7.3), and OS X 10.9.3. Once the network reconnects, only the mail app remains a problem.
my having messed around with the DNS configuration in order to try an app called Blockless and/or having upgraded to OS X 10.9.3. I have four mail accounts, all but one of which are Gmail IMAP accounts (the 4th runs from Bluehost mail, and is also an IMAP account). I currently have the DNS set at the default number, but might try going back to 8.8.8.8. Mail works fine on my several iOS devices.

I have been on Microsoft Exchange for 6 years. Migrated from PC to Mac about a year ago. I started using Microsoft Entourage 8 because it supported Microsoft Exchange Server.
I was working, although periodically Entourage would lock up and I would have to re-sync the inbox. After finally getting fed up, I've decided to move to Mac Mail.
After some initial pains to setup the Exchange account settings, I finally have it "working". The only problem is that not all my email messages are sent to the Mac Mail client.
If I'm online with my Mac when the email hits the Exchange Server, I get the message. But if Mac Mail is not open, I won't get the message. I can confirm that the email hits the exchange server because I can see it in Outlook Web Access, and on my BlackBerry.
The only way I know how to get the emails into Mac Mail is by going into my blackberry, marking the emails as read, or un-read, while the Mac Mail client is open. If I do that, then Mac Mail will discover that these messages are in my Inbox and pull them into the Mac Mail client.
This is very frustrating as I have to keep track of which emails I received when Mac Mail was closed. If I walk between meetings for 2 minutes and I receive an email, I'll miss it in my client.
I'm using Mac Mail version 3.6 (935/935.3), on Mac OS X - 10.5.7.
I'm not sure what version of Microsoft Exchange I'm on as that is managed by my company IT department.

I use apple mail to connect to multiple accounts. One of them went offline on Friday and refuses to come back on. The account is fully functional, because it's still working fine on iPhone, iPad and through Outlook 2011. It's like once apple mail decides an account is offline, that's it.

I thought replacing the old brother printer with a new hp laserjet would fix the problem with the printers going offline everyday. It still does the same thing, they will print fine until the imac goes to sleep and when we try to print again we either have to power down a printer or restart the computer. Sometimes just pausing the printer and resuming will work too, or maybe pulling the usb cable and plugging it back in. We have a 24" intel core i3 with 10.6.8 version 3.06 Ghz and 4GB memory. The printers are and HP laserjet 1536dnf as default printer and an Epson Stylus NX115 for the occasional color print and a Primera Bravo se disc publisher for printing on cd discs.

Loaded OS Lion on iMac yesterday and transferred mail from MobileMe to iCloud. Spent hours trying to get mail working on desktop but finally succeeded.Shutting down overnight caused mail to quit working again. However, if I go to iCloud website the mail works OK. I know others have had mail problems with Lion? I've tried just about everything from Apple support.
