Applications :: What Are Good Programs For TV Series On DVD
Oct 18, 2010
I was wondering what are good programs to use to rip individual episodes off of DVD, and have them in a mpg, avi, etc format?
I am using handbreak, but I am running into trouble with LOST season 6.
I was just wondering if there are any better ones?

Basically I got a My Passport 500gb drive I want to use for work, the problem is I use both PC and Mac. Logically I have to set it up to Fat32, the problem is I do use files that are larger than 4gb. My solution is put a zip program in my external that can zip those exceptional files into smaller increments. I know winrar can do that for windows but I don't know any in Mac.
alternatively I can install MacDrive on PC but I can't install programs on PC(from work) compared to mac where I can run it off the external.

I've a collection of various movies and tv series in DivX/XviD/H264 format. They are stored on my file-server, which runs Rivet for streaming to my Xbox 360.
So my basic setup is as follows:
[macbook] <--> [file server with rivet] <--> [xbox 360/tv]
The files on the server are all in one directory..and with a growing list, it's getting confusing/messy. Does anyone know a tool to manage (Covers, Tagging etc.) all the files with my Macbook? If not, would there be a need for something like that? My exams finish on tuesday (8.6.2010), which means I'd have some time to code on a new project.

Does anyone know of an app that will do this? I'm struggling getting iMovie 8 to work right. Apple no longer provides a free download of iMovie HD 6 (*sob*) on their website. QuickTime Pro is no longer available. What can I use to process a long list of image stills into a movie file?

Sending out the same e-mail message to 100 different people, but I want to customize the e-mail to their first name. Is there any program that you can upload a text list or Excel list to and it will do this automatically and create the e-mails in your drafts folder? Don't want to use a online sending service because they put crap at the bottom of the e-mail and recipients know it's automated.Want the people to think it's not something automated. Also, I know there's a way to schedule delivery of a message for a future date in Apple Mail via Apple Script, but you seem to have to schedule one by one. Any watch to do a batch scheduling?

I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

Hi, so I've been using Blender off and on for about a year and a half and I was thinking about buying a different program. I'd like to keep it under $200 but if its a little over that fine. I was thinking about Silo but I don't really like not having the ability to extrude single vertices and subdivide objects like in Blender. Also if their are any products that have a student discount or something like that for someone in high school that would help too.

Been looking for a good FLV to M4A video converter for the Mac. Only one that I can find that people seem to love is Wondershare Video Converter... but it is $40. Anyone know of a free one out there that can get the job done?

Been using NewsRack on my iPhone and iPad and really would like to find one for my MacBook Pro. I want something that works well and looks decent, but my main request is one that supports google reader syncing. MacUpdate search is down or i'd just go hunting for one myself.

I recently acquired an 17" iMac G5, 1.6 PPC with 2 GB RAM. I upgraded to Leopard 10.5.8, installed iWork and iLife '08, Aperture 2 and a video game. I also added some enhancements, Divx and an I.M. program.

Does anyone know of a good, free XML editor?
I found an old topic from 2005 about this, but the suggestions either required a purchase or were absolute overkill (like Eclipse.... wow....no).
I would prefer it not to be a Java application, because those are slow and look like poo.
I know that TextEdit can be used, but I'd like one that can at least highlight the tags. It would be nice if it could perform checks, too.
I also tried googling around, but I didn't find what I needed.

I have 3 websites that I wish to backup... most are just a few hundred MB - but have MySQL - and have been hunting around... Looking at SpiderOak and Mozy - but would like something a little less pricey or "free" if possible? Also, I'm a mac n00b - so - a decent GUI would be nice...
My host went belly up over xmas - and lost allot of data... hence the search... can't count on anyone these days
PS: Carbon and SuperDuper are cloners - not backup apps (subtle differences).... and I need something more NAS traditional - to get "changed" files and such....

Does anyone else notice fonts in Google Chrome don't look as good as they do in other browsers like FF and Safari? They look cramped and unkerned. Am I the only one? It's distracting after coming from FF and preventing me from using it. Though that's not the only reason. I do like the speed of Chrome though.

I have tried so many now .... Here is what I want/need:
1) Multiple accounts
2) instapaper/read it later integration with links
3) easy marking of "read" tweets
4) This is the most important: I want to be able to place different people I follow into groups, like I was with seesmic for windows ... for example, I can put some people into a "tech" group and some into a literary" etc ... Why is this so difficult to find?!?!

I'm starting my career in networking configuration (basically configuring routers & switches) and need advice on a good serial terminal app. Since Terminal that ships w/ Mac OS X doesn't deal w/ serial ports, I've had to resort to using apps like Zterm & QuickTerm. Both of those haven't been updated in years, and they don't really have a "Mac OS X"-ey GUI goodness about them.

I know, I know... iTunes is the end all, be all for mac users as far as music players go. But I don't like to use iTunes all the time... there are times when I download a bunch of music and just don't have time to organize it and make sure it's tagged correctly, so I don't wanna add it to my iTunes library just yet...
so I am wondering, is there any other good music players out there that you might know of? I don't need it to go ahead and organize my music, I just need it to be able to open individual tracks or music off a folder and play it. A player with an appealing UI and shuffle mode would be ideal. I tried Vox btw, but it's kinda ugly though.
