Feb 5, 2009I have a four-year-old 17� inch Powerbook that is in need of some restoration. The optical drive does not work, the battery lasts all of 3 minutes when its not plugged in and the firewire ports don�t work. So since the optical drive and firewire ports are unusable I cannot install Leopard, which I would like to do. Also disk utility says the hard drive needs permissions repaired but I would need to insert the install disk to fix them and since I don�t have disk warrior or drive genius already installed it seems like a problem is going to happen soon.

Jun 8, 2009I was wondering if there are any good bi-directional sync apps for mac? I have had a look around and could not find any. Any advice would be great. What I am trying to do is sync two folders (one on my computer and another on my USB stick) and have those two folders sync'ed. Most programs I have found just sync from one folder to another but I would like it two way Ie if I create a new file on the USB stick and uni and also create a new file on my computer at home, I would like both these files to sync.

Mar 7, 2012If I 'command tab' and display the running programmes and then tab to address book and command 'Q' the programme 'Address Book' does quit but the icon does not disappear from the row of running applications.

Oct 12, 2009I'm looking for a way to keep distraction to a minimum when working. I'd like to have an app (or a setting) that enables me to automatically hide any apps that I switch out of. Are there any apps or hidden settings within OS X out there that would solve this issue for me? I know about Spirited Away, but it doesn't work for me and hasn't been updated in a while.

Feb 11, 2010I have Fusion installed on my Mac, and it's all updated and runs fine, and I'm trying to install a program off a Windows-only CD. The problem is the drive in my Mac doesn't seem to accept it. It just ticks a few times and spits the CD back out. Is there a way around this? I've already been high and low on the VMWare site and it appears the virtual machine is communicating with the CD drive just fine.

Feb 3, 2010I annotate PDF's with Skim. If I save an annotated file and open it later with Skim on the same Mac, I can read the annotations with no problem. However:
1. If I send the file to my other Mac (same OS, same Skim version) I can no longer read the notes. This works both ways and it's not due to setting "Hide notes".
2. I cannot read the notes with Preview, is this normal?

Sep 7, 2010I have numerous books in iTunes, some PDF files and others ePub files. When I double click on a PDF file book in iTunes, Preview on my MBP will open up allowing me to read it. However, when clicking an ePub file nothing happens. Nothing opens. And of course I'd like for something to open up allowing me to read it on my Mac.
I bring up this thread cause I remember not too long ago Pages allowed for ePub conversion, figuring at the very least Pages could/would open up. Anyone have any recommendations for my wanted outcome of wanting an ePub file from iTunes to open up on my Mac?

Sep 11, 2010I've recently made the move from a PC to a Mac, and so far, everything gone very smoothly. I got iWork with my Mac, and there is one problem that's bugging me; every time I open a word (docx) document in pages, it asks me if I want to keep the changes or discard them, and that is for when I am just reading them. When I edit them, and I go to save it, it keeps bringing up the save as box instead of overwriting the present docx file.
I've already installed any missing fonts I have in my documents. So, to summarize, my two main problems are: If I read a docx file, Pages acts like I made changes to it, despite the fact that I did not. If I edit a docx file, Pages keeps bringing up the save as dialog box when I try to save, instead of overwriting the original docx file. The same thing happens with Numbers and Keynote. I just need a temporary fix 'til I can get a hold of Office 2011.

Mar 11, 2010When I'm trying to capture on my iMac using FCP7 through a Canon XL1 I get this message: "Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape". Now I know it's not the tape as when I use my iBook to capture (fcp5) it's fine. I know I could use the iBook but I've been having problems with it in other forms so I can't rely on that working forwver and once/when it dies, I'll be stuck. I've tried all the usuals: rebooting, different cam to transfer, different cables, re-instaling FCP and I'm still scratching my head.

Dec 31, 2010Hi, so I've been using Blender off and on for about a year and a half and I was thinking about buying a different program. I'd like to keep it under $200 but if its a little over that fine. I was thinking about Silo but I don't really like not having the ability to extrude single vertices and subdivide objects like in Blender. Also if their are any products that have a student discount or something like that for someone in high school that would help too.

I found an old topic from 2005 about this, but the suggestions either required a purchase or were absolute overkill (like Eclipse.... wow....no).
I would prefer it not to be a Java application, because those are slow and look like poo.
I know that TextEdit can be used, but I'd like one that can at least highlight the tags. It would be nice if it could perform checks, too.
I also tried googling around, but I didn't find what I needed.
