Applications :: How To Delay The Delete Of A Message In Apple Mail?
Feb 6, 2010
how to set a delay for mail to automatically delete specific messages (from specific users, for instance) after a preset amount of time? Maybe something like an applescript that can be run as a rule in mail?
When I open my mail app and delete a message, it deletes it from my mail app inbox. When I log on to gmail, I see the mail still there. Is there anyway to delete from mail, and have it remove the message from gmail altogether?
Only recently, Mail.app has had delays in receiving mail. I have it set to check for new mail every minute, yet somehow my iPhone gets mail before my Macs do, including my brand new iMac.
I had a hotmail account and about a month ago apple mail deleted all my messages from the hotmail account, therefore I am unable to access any of them from anywhere else except my mac.
I learned that that was due to me leaving the box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message." Now I fixed that and moved to gmail, as I was able to upload all hotmail messages to my gmail account through tuhunderbird.
Since I am not a big fan of Thunderbird as it is giving me some password issues, today I set up the gmail imap (I think) accunt on my apple mail, but there is no box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" for gmail in prefrences, just for hotmail.
Now I am scared, will apple mail delete all my messages from the gmail server, and if it will, how do I prevent it from doing so?
I received an iCloud error message yesterday twice for me.com mail. One finally went through but the other one I can't cancel or delete.Try to send email again?
Today, I am not able to delete messages, I get this; The message "message name here" could not be moved to the mailbox "Trash On My Mac" The operation couldn't be completed. File exists.

Is it possible to delete message in the server using Mail configured using IMAP?Â
Currently when I delete the message in Mail, the server still keep a copy of it, which means it is not deleted on the server. I know that POP can do this but I still want the option of being able to access it from other computers. Â
My server has only a small size, so I hope that I can just delete it from my Mail instead of having to log in to the server and delete it again.Â
I have found apple mail to be great however when I go to open a forwarded email ".msg" I need to go back to my original email provider to open it. In apple mail it asks me to choose the appropriate application however I have had no luck.
One of the email lists that I subscribe to frequently contains messages with images. It's a moderately high volume list with 20-30 messages per day. Inevitably, a few of those messages with attached images (according to the paperclip icon in the messages list) will arrive with no headers and no raw data. The display of the message in Apple Mail shows only the sender's name/address and the subject, nothing else such as the usual warning, "This message contains no content."
The people who run the mailing list don't think that the problem is on their end so is there a way to correct it.

I have a user who is using the Mac Mail product on Tiger. When he forwards HTML formatted messages, all anyone recieves are a bunch of text attachments, some graphic attachments and the email header. Works fine on text based emails. I have looked through the available options in Mail and have everything that looks configured to allow this.
My Apple Mail hasn't been working since 31st January. Every time I open it the same email just continues duplicating itself in the "Recovered messages" folder so I end up with hundreds of them. This email was the last email that was successfully sent and I was overseas at the time. When I returned home, my email would not update and it has not worked since.Â
I have tried rebuilding and taking mailboxes offline and online. Should I delete the 'mail' folder from my library?
I have sent a message with Apple Mail 7.3 on Mac with OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, and it shows DUPLICATED in the Sent mailbox of Mail. I mean, two entries with the very same message inside are displayed, yet, as said, I only sent it once! I am using POP.Â
Selecting "Mailbox - Rebuild", quitting and opening Mail, repairing permissions with Apple Disk Utility, restarting the Mac, and even resetting the PRAM does not fix it. I have seen the following article, but cannot find the "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks that it indicates: How to Fix Duplicate Emails Sent From Apple Email..URL....
how to prevent this duplication behavior (beyond deleting one of such messages, which, of course, I can do); I mean, to fixing whatever is corrupted and prevent such behavior happening again in the future? What is the equivalent of "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks to do what indicates the above article?Â

how I can delay mail being sent. I am a recent convert from Outlook.... Outlook as the ability to put the mail in the outbox and then I tell it when I want to Send & Receive.
I find this very useful. How do I get my mac to do this? I have searched the preferences but found nothing. It seems like such a simple request...
Some other questions re: mail.
On the top line in mail where the headings are: From, Subject, Date Received. How do I add Size to the list or any other heading- Are there others?
Also What is the 'Speech Bubble' icon signify on that some line?
How do I click on a mail message in mail to delete it Without it opening the message. Or opening the one underneath it.
im running leopard and its showing 1 draft that never got sent (that i wrote when i was on tiger). whenever i hit delete on the message, it turns grey but doesnt actually remove itself and i still have the little 1 badge to the right of the draft mailbox on the left. i went into my ~/Library/Mail/email account/Drafts/Mailbox and deleted the message but its still showing in Mail and its driving me insane. Does anyone know how to get this damn thing to disappear? ive repaired permissions but im just lost right now.
Need to know how to delete subfolder in Apple Mail-Under one of my mailboxes On My Mac a subfolder with the same name as the mailbox appears and new mail to this mailbox goes to subfolder some of the time-just want to delete the sub folder.
I recently lost one of my Gmail accounts to a hacker and it was an enlightening experience. I like to keep all of my gmail messages because it's a useful history to search if I ever need to look up an old thread. However, the obvious problem is a hacker who gets in also has all that knowledge. What I'd like to be able to do is store my full Gmail account with all messages locally in Apple mail where I can backup as often as I want, then I'd like to purge my online Gmail messages. The idea is if someone hacked my Gmail account, they'd see very little messages but I would still have all e-mail copies saved on my machine.
Everytime I go to print an e-mail in Mail 5.2 or Safari 5.1.5 on Mac OS 10.7.3 on my Mac Book Pro 15 inch 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, the beach ball comes up and spins for approximately 1 minute and 25 seconds.  After this time, the print dialgoue box comes up. It prints immediately after I press print in the print dialogue box. This issue happens only with these two programs, regardless of any printer I use to print. I have reset the printer system, I have rebuild the mail. I have called Apple, which led to a developer support, submitting the info, etc, but have not heard back from them. Printing is fine from all other applications, including Parallels running Windows and Quickbooks running on Windows.Â
Once in a while when I launch Mail, it tries to download thousands of mails. Not spam ones, but legitimate mails going right back to when I joined .mac in 2005. Why is this?
I have an e-mail that I tried to send using Mail 3.6. I accidently selected it to send from an account that has an error with the outgoing mail server. Usually when this happens and the error box pops up I just choose another server. The problem is that the email was going to a whole list of people and the options are lost at the bottom of the screen. I can't access the buttons. I have had this message on my screen now for over a month.
This has been occurring more often in the past week or so. I'll open a message that is from Person A with Subject A. The actual message being open will be a previous message from Person B with subject B. Completely different. It just seems like a database error or something. I am using Mail with my Gmail setup through IMAP. A restart does not fix it nor does quitting and re-opening mail. The message comes through just fine on my BlackBerry. Is there some way I can refresh the messages or something?
So to the issue: I tried to send an email, not knowing it was 25mb, and obviously it did not go through. I deleted it out of my outbox, and since then it's been popping up in recovered messages non stop (current count is 96). I've deleted the files from the mail app, deleted the temporary files in the mac mail folder, deleted the contents of the deleted folder, and yet the application still "recovers" the message non stop.
Since this has happened I have not been able to obtain new messages from mac mail because it is busy with whatever it is doing
