OS X Mavericks :: (10.9) Apple Mail Message Contains No Content

Dec 8, 2014

One of the email lists that I subscribe to frequently contains messages with images. It's a moderately high volume list with 20-30 messages per day. Inevitably, a few of those messages with attached images (according to the paperclip icon in the messages list) will arrive with no headers and no raw data. The display of the message in Apple Mail shows only the sender's name/address and the subject, nothing else such as the usual warning, "This message contains no content."

The people who run the mailing list don't think that the problem is on their end so is there a way to correct it.

OS X Mavericks :: Apple Mail Shows Duplicate Message In Sent Mailbox

Jun 1, 2014

I have sent a message with Apple Mail 7.3 on Mac with OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, and it shows DUPLICATED in the Sent mailbox of Mail. I mean, two entries with the very same message inside are displayed, yet, as said, I only sent it once! I am using POP.

Selecting "Mailbox - Rebuild", quitting and opening Mail, repairing permissions with Apple Disk Utility, restarting the Mac, and even resetting the PRAM does not fix it. I have seen the following article, but cannot find the "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks that it indicates: How to Fix Duplicate Emails Sent From Apple Email..URL....

how to prevent this duplication behavior (beyond deleting one of such messages, which, of course, I can do); I mean, to fixing whatever is corrupted and prevent such behavior happening again in the future? What is the equivalent of "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks to do what indicates the above article?

OS X :: Apple Mail Splits Content Into Several Attachments

Mar 28, 2008

I am noticing some strange behaviour in the way Apple Mail handles attachments. If you create a new email, type some text, drag an image in your email, type some more text below the email, Apple Mail will attach the image as well as the text below the image as attachments. While this does work properly with other Apple Mail users, this is problematic when sending emails to users of other mail clients (I tested with Microsoft Outlook Web Access; the same happens in Microsoft Outlook itself). Users of other mail clients will then receive an email, containing only the text you typed above the image, while the text you typed below the image will be attached to your mail as a separate attachment. Basically breaking your email. Looking at the RAW email content you can indeed clearly see Apple Mail has cut up the email into seperate attachments. Is there any way to resolve this issue? I read somewhere about a property 'SendWindowsFriendlyAttachments' in com.apple.mail.plist, however that property is not present any more (Apple Mail 3.2). Some images to illustrate the issue: How you compose the email in Apple Mail (3.2): How a recipient will receive the email.

OS X Mavericks :: Malicious Content Detected Alerts In Mail App

Aug 22, 2014

I have recently received several emails with "[MALICIOUS CONTENT DETECTED]" inserted at the beginning of the Subject.

The emails come from various organisations / associations and do not seem to be related.

At the end of the messages the following appears (in bold):

[code]...

Is this a function of my Mail app detecting suspicious content or has the sender's email system detected something and removed it?

OS X Mavericks :: Mail Sends Two Copies Of Message

Aug 26, 2014

When you compose a Mail message, if you double-click the send button it sends TWO copies of the mail? I just sent someone a message, and my hand accidentally clicked the mouse twice when I hit send.  I heard two whooshes and saw two message windows briefly appear.  And sure enough, two copies listed in the Sent folder. I thought I'd sent an earlier draft which was sitting behind the first message.  But no -- I tried it again with a new message to myself.  And I received two mails.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Apple Mail Won't Update And Keeps Recovering The Same Message

Mar 18, 2012

My Apple Mail hasn't been working since 31st January. Every time I open it the same email just continues duplicating itself in the "Recovered messages" folder so I end up with hundreds of them. This email was the last email that was successfully sent and I was overseas at the time. When I returned home, my email would not update and it has not worked since.

I have tried rebuilding and taking mailboxes offline and online. Should I delete the 'mail' folder from my library?

OS X Mavericks :: 10.9.4 - Mail Shows Wrong Message Body

Aug 20, 2014

OS X 10.9.4 / 3.2GHz Quad-Core / 16GB DDR3
Mail 7.3 (1878.6)
IMAP Server at InMotion Hosting

I continue to see messages in my mail folders that have the header information (From / Subject / Date) from one message in the message listings, and the From / Subject / Date of a DIFFERENT message in the message preview.

This is NOT Google.  The IMAP server is from InMotion Hosting.  On the server, the messages are accurate: the From / Subject / Date information is attached to the message body it represents.  It is only in Mail that the information gets scrambled.

I have used the Rebuild for this mailbox, which usually corrects the problem.  On occasion, I have to delete the mail account from Mail and add it back in again to force an accurate rebuild.

OS X Mavericks :: Mail Program Frozen With One Message Open And Gray

Sep 4, 2014

I am on mac laptop OSX 10.9.2  using Mail 7.2.  I tried to open a "Mailer Daemon" message and it is frozen, not even open but a grey colored blank "message".  I've tried: closing the message unsuccessfullyForce Quitting the application (reads "Mail (not Responding)") when I do.  (4 times)Turning off the entire computer, letting it rest and rebooting. (3 times)Opening up my server on the internet and deleting the offensive message "mailer daemon"Turning off the computer again.

So...as soon as I open mail, the grey "message" is open.  I can click on the Mail Viewer window and have that come forward, but all is frozen.Just did it again and it hasn't changed.  Had to force quit again.  Never before in 8 years of using the Mail application (different computers).  The rainbow wheel of death spins and spins.

OS X Mavericks :: Possible To Delete Message In Server Using Mail Configured / IMAP?

Sep 1, 2014

Is it possible to delete message in the server using Mail configured using IMAP?

Currently when I delete the message in Mail, the server still keep a copy of it, which means it is not deleted on the server. I know that POP can do this but I still want the option of being able to access it from other computers.

My server has only a small size, so I hope that I can just delete it from my Mail instead of having to log in to the server and delete it again.

OS X Mavericks :: Apple Mail - Mail Not Going Into Inbox

Seems when Apple Mail checks for new mail (Mail provider is Google), it does show up in the All Mail folder that Google provides, but the new messages are not showing up in the Apple Mail inbox.

When I check this in the Google mail web client, mail appears as normal.

I'm missing messages, so this is something I'd like to figure out what's going on.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Send Message Content To Server Failed

Mar 22, 2012

I have 2 mail accounts setup in Mail. They are on separate domains I host on my server. One account works great, the other gives this error message every time I try to send. "Sending the message content to the server failed." It offeres me to use a different outgoing mail server.I am on latest Lion 10.7.3. mail version os 5.2 (latest). I connect through Airport Extreme.I Googled the problem and searched everywhere. I also tried deleting and setting up the account. I checked all my settings (multiple times). There is nothing to fix in settings. The Connection doctor does not see any problems.

Here is the really frustrating part: Messages actually get sent. The recipeint always receives them. If I try again with the same server, I get the same error message and again message gets sent. But to Mail it is still unsent and sits in Outbox prompting to send.I also tried the MTU trick. No luck. I should also say that I have seen this problem before on other accounts. I've also seen it come and go. It happened on Snow Leoprad and Leopard too.

ITunes :: HDCP Message For Content Playing On A MacBook Air?

Jun 7, 2012

I have a relatively new 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 MacBook Air, purchased in August of last year. Just recently it started giving me the HDCP error when I tried to play HD TV shows downloaded from iTunes. Given the capability of the display (1440 x 900) this shouldn't be a problem and like I said, I've never had this issue until very recently. I have tried downloading both 720p and 1080p versions of the videos and neither will play for more than a few seconds before the warning appears.

I am not plugging my MacBook Air into an external display. In fact, when I play the videos on my Apple TV v2 (both streaming from my machine and via iCloud directly) they play just fine. I have the lastest EFI firmware installed on my machine as well as all other software updates. I have checked to make sure there are not any partial downloads that could be causing a problem. The error also appears if I try to open the content with Quicktime.

OS X Mavericks :: Apple Mail Keeps Attachments On Reply

Sep 11, 2014

Just bought a new Mac Pro running Mavericks.  Migrated my life from my old Mac Pro (early 2008) running Mountain Lion.  That's a whole other story, but my problem now is that Mail does not delete attachments when I reply to a message that contained the attachments.  This is new to me, so I wasn't aware of it until I started getting nasty messages from my Internet provider telling me that I had exceeded the maximum allowable message size.  When a client sent me a 10MB document to review and edit, I would reply and attach the edited document to the reply, not knowing that the original 10MB file was still there (down at the bottom of a sometimes lengthy message).

The old attachment can be manually deleted in the Message tab, but I can't find anything in Preferences or anywhere else that allows me to turn that feature off forever.
