MacBook Pro :: Can't Delete An Apple Mail Account

Jul 21, 2010I had a hotmail account and about a month ago apple mail deleted all my messages from the hotmail account, therefore I am unable to access any of them from anywhere else except my mac.
I learned that that was due to me leaving the box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message." Now I fixed that and moved to gmail, as I was able to upload all hotmail messages to my gmail account through tuhunderbird.
Since I am not a big fan of Thunderbird as it is giving me some password issues, today I set up the gmail imap (I think) accunt on my apple mail, but there is no box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" for gmail in prefrences, just for hotmail.
Now I am scared, will apple mail delete all my messages from the gmail server, and if it will, how do I prevent it from doing so?

I know that in Windows you can use Outlook to receive/request a return receipt when the receiver opens the e-mail. I believe that even using Microsoft Office Entourage '08 would work as well but I really want to stay all Apple applications if at all possible

May 7, 2012She was having mail issues (passwords etc) so rather then messing with all the random settings I decided to delete the account and then re-enter it so it auto-fills everything. Only problem was that when I hit the delete button it removed the account and all the stuff from the inbox etc but then popped up a messages saying something like "are you sure you want to do this as deleting everything will be lost". Something along those lines. I wasn't sure what it was talking about so I hit cancel to stop it.
Now it seems to be gripping onto that mail account half way. I can close the email program and reopen and then account shows up again in the list of accounts. If I remove it (no messages pop up) then it disappears and about 10 seconds later I get a popup message saying that the mail accounts password is wrong? Though there is no accounts listed and I've even deleted all the passwords from keychain etc. If I enter a password it does nothing (I know I have the right password).Then, if I close mail and reopen the account is listed in the preferences again automaticly? I keep deleting it but it keeps popping back in but with no emails etc and a bunch of password etc popups bugging me. I can't seem to ADD the account again either as it just comes up with an error I think because that account is halfway in the mail app somehow.Is there anyway to manually remove any trace of this account from the mail app or something so that I can re-add it fresh?

Apr 7, 2012It seems it should be easy enough to delete a mail account! But I cannot. I highligh the mail account I want to delete, control + click and ONE of the options is DELETE MAILBOX. I have clicked it over and over again, I get a message like "are you sure?" Since I am I select DELETE, not cancel. And I just cannot get rid of this mailbox.

Nov 28, 2009I have an iMac running Snow Leopard and I am trying to add my gmail account to the mail app and im entering the right password and username and I keep getting- "Logging in to the Gmail IMAP server [URL] failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive messages." And my mail wont sync or anything. I tried with both imap and pop and neither work. In my gmail setting I have both pop and imap turned on so I dont get why im having a problem. My gmail account that I used to have on my account before I upgraded to snow leopard still works and my mobile me account works but I cant add any new gmail accounts. I've tried adding a few different gmail accounts and none will work.

Aug 10, 2010From about three weeks ago, on only my most heavily used email account (it has around 75,000 emails in it and gets around 200 emails each day), I was only able to download 4 emails at a time. Then it would stop. I would click "Get Mail" and it would download the next 4 emails. I'd click "Get Mail" etc etc until all emails were downloaded.
I tried to find a solution, but couldn't, so I just put up with it (it was really only a pain in the butt first thing in the morning).
Then, this morning - disaster! My main account only downloads one email at a time! It shows "55 of 55 Incoming messages", then next time "55 of 55 incoming messages" etc. A new one must have arrived because now it is showing "56 out of 56" (but I still have 6 hours of emails to download).
Important info:
* Email is hosted by gmail.
* Account is setup as a POP account.
* This issue is not affecting other staff on a mac, using same domain for email. Nor is it affecting any other email accounts I have (about 16 active email accounts, including 2 others hosted by gmail).
* Mail version is 4.3
* OS is 10.6.4
* Hard drive has 83GB available
* Last week I installed an extra 2GB of ram - so it wont be a lack of ram.
* No other email accounts are affected.
* There are 20 unread emails sitting in my Gmail account waiting to be downloaded (I logged in to Google Webmail and saw them).
* I have checked the Activity Monitor for Mail and that account seems to act absolutely perfectly (if it only had 1 email to download). In other words, there is nothing in the Activity Monitor that suggests a problem.

I put the incoming mail server 127.0.0.1 as directed and changed the port in the advance tab to 2000 as well. I've read all the bits on their website and read some blogs but still not working.

ICloud :: Forgot Password For Account In Apple Mail?
Mar 31, 2012I don't know why but a recently I've been asked to enter my icloud password related to my iCloud e-Mail address. stupidly, I've forgot what my password is. is there a chance to reset it somehow?
To explain the situation a bit better and what I've tried already, here a short discription of the situation:
- I do have a appleID that is called firstname.lastname@gmail.com the related password is appleID_Password1.
with this combination I also conduct my purchases in iTunes and the AppStore. But to rule this possibility already out: It doesn't let me access my iCloud eMail account in Apple Mail. Funny enough, though, when visiting iCloud.com this is the combination with which I log onto iCloud incl it's mail service within the web browser.
- the iCloud eMail address for whose password I am looking is called something like abcde@me.com. I have implemented it into my Apple Mail program running on Mac OS X Lion. Since setting up the account i've never ever been asked to enter my password. But now, out of a sudden, I was. And, of course, I couldn't remember it anymore. Hence, I don't receive any eMails sent to abcde@me.com anymore on my mac.
Can somebody tell me how to fix it, if it is not the password for my appleID??

Apr 9, 2012suddenly and i think this is the first time it has happened on this account My Freeserve pop mail account needs the password entered.BUT I entered it and I know it is correct. So why am I being asked for it again and again.I think I need to do something in the keychain but as I can;t remember exactly what I don;t want to mess it up.I need my mail as awaiting an important message.

Oct 31, 2007im running leopard and its showing 1 draft that never got sent (that i wrote when i was on tiger). whenever i hit delete on the message, it turns grey but doesnt actually remove itself and i still have the little 1 badge to the right of the draft mailbox on the left. i went into my ~/Library/Mail/email account/Drafts/Mailbox and deleted the message but its still showing in Mail and its driving me insane. Does anyone know how to get this damn thing to disappear? ive repaired permissions but im just lost right now.

I had to delete all my mails on the provider server because I reached the storage limit. So I saved all my mails on my mac from the apple mail first and then I deleted all my mails on the server. After deleting all mails on the server, I putted back my old mails into APPLE MAIL, but it immediately deleted all my mails in APPLE MAIL after syncing with the server. So my question. How can I place my old mails back into APPLE MAIL without it deleting my local mails when it is syncing with the server?
