It seems the my Mail app never makes the new message received chime, unless the mail app is on top and the active window. I have it checked to play the chime in pref.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, Mail has had glitches. I fixed one; the other remains: I can't see Word attachments in emails. The only hint is the message "Missing Plug-in". If I show the entire header, Mail provides buttons to Quickview the document or save it. The previous problem was that Mail wouldn't start up (kept quitting while doing the initial database migration) because I'd left in MailActOn as a plugin. So I removed plugins and the contents of ~/Library/Mail/Bundles. Now Mail works except for this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI finally switched to Apple's Mail app 4 months ago after 12 years of using Eudora (because of the inevitable - that Lion or Mountain Lion, when I upgrade, will not support the foundation architecture that Eudora is built on). There are (AT LEAST) two functions available in Eudora that I very much want to do with Mail and currently cannot figure out how to do. I'm hoping that someone knows of a plugin that will do these functions, or will write such a plugin, or will tell me how to make this suggestion to Apple to include in a future update.
1) I want the freedom to EDIT a received message - to correct a subject line, or make it more relevant for my reference, or add a key word/prefix to the subject for future searching and archiving, along with being able to edit the message itself, so that it is the equivalent in a book (or an eBook) of adding comments/marginalia for future reference. (In my opinion, once I receive an email message, it is MINE - so I should be able to do what I want with it (which includes the responsibility of not rewriting a message to resend to appear as deceptive or fraudulent).
2) Write up a draft email, that would reside in the "Send" folder of Eudora, and for which I could select a time in the future that it should be mailed (dependent on the fact that Eudora would be running at that time, else it would send the next time Eudora was opened. I would LOVE to be able to do that in Apple Mail. Rationale: Often, when I receive an actionable email, I want to respond at that moment while the subject is fresh, but due to priorities or scheduling reasons, I don't want the response to go out just then. Maybe I want the response to go out after an event three days from now, but I want to process the message right now, and I don't want to have to remember to make a ToDo item to remind me in 3 days.
I'm using a Mac Air, OSX 10.9.2. I've configured Mail to work with my gmail account.Â
When sending emails adn using apostrophes (e.g. We're, they're, it's) the recipient (on a windows machine running Outlook) sees all the apostrophes as question marks.Â
Rich Text vs Plain Text doesn't address the issue.Â

Today I received a message on my iPhone but when I went to reply to it on my iMac the message did not appear even when I searched for it.Â
It also shows in my mail server's Webmail. This is very scary. How many other messages am I missing?

Regardless of account used - all outbound messages are failing to reach recipient - and if CC'd to myself - not receiving them either. Have tried various test messages - and no luck.

Why the total number of e.mail in my inbox has disappeared from the top banner.
I have four accounts in my inbox and they each show the number of unread e.mails - however as per the attachment below - at the very top of my mail page was  Inbox (23 messages, 2 unread) -  now it just says InboxÂ
Is there any way to show the total again?Â

Apple mail out of office rule is sending auto replies to all emails not just newly received emails--HELP! I set up the rule according to another apple support thread and instead of only sending the reply to new mail received, it was sent to all messages I believe that were in my INBOX, I only had a few but several people that hadn't sent me emails since I set up the rule, received the OUT OF OFFICE reply. Here is the procedure I followed for the out of office rule-[URL]I just used my email account which is a business account- not an ECU account but these rules according to the apple thread apply for all emails.

Messages on my iMac won´t show Pictures that someone send to me, while my MacBook will show them perfectly. The Same goes for Videos.
While the MacBook and my iDevices show the Pictures inline my iMac only show the Filename next to the Spyglass-Icon.Â
Is there a way to fix this without loosing my recieved messages?Â

I am trying to set Apple Mail as my default mail application, but invariably, when I try to send an email from another program, it opens Outlook instead.
How can I make Mail the default mail application for my entire system?
This error message on my 15" macBook Pro recently appeared and blocks my access to all my music. I have downloaded the itunes updates and still get this message.

When I send an email to a contact via Apple Mail on Mac OS X and the contact does not have a lastname include, Apple Mail replaces the blank lastname with the contact's first name.Â
For example, if I send an email to "Dad", the contact later appears on all my synced devices as "Dad Dad".Â
This is only the case when I use Apple Mail on the desktop, not on iOS.Â

I am trying to figure out why I can select some email addresses from senders, and when I right click, I get the option to add that address to my contacts, while in others this selection is missing. In either case, the email address or contact IS NOT in my contacts.

In Apple mail, is there a way to disable the message that warns you when you're about to send an e-mail w/ no subject?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have found apple mail to be great however when I go to open a forwarded email ".msg" I need to go back to my original email provider to open it. In apple mail it asks me to choose the appropriate application however I have had no luck.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOne of the email lists that I subscribe to frequently contains messages with images. It's a moderately high volume list with 20-30 messages per day. Inevitably, a few of those messages with attached images (according to the paperclip icon in the messages list) will arrive with no headers and no raw data. The display of the message in Apple Mail shows only the sender's name/address and the subject, nothing else such as the usual warning, "This message contains no content."
The people who run the mailing list don't think that the problem is on their end so is there a way to correct it.

We've noticed that we no longer have Junk or Trash mailboxes located in the sidebar. How do we get these to show up in Mail - and will the messages still be there?Â
View 6 Replies View Relatedhow to set a delay for mail to automatically delete specific messages (from specific users, for instance) after a preset amount of time? Maybe something like an applescript that can be run as a rule in mail?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user who is using the Mac Mail product on Tiger. When he forwards HTML formatted messages, all anyone recieves are a bunch of text attachments, some graphic attachments and the email header. Works fine on text based emails. I have looked through the available options in Mail and have everything that looks configured to allow this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Apple Mail hasn't been working since 31st January. Every time I open it the same email just continues duplicating itself in the "Recovered messages" folder so I end up with hundreds of them. This email was the last email that was successfully sent and I was overseas at the time. When I returned home, my email would not update and it has not worked since.Â
I have tried rebuilding and taking mailboxes offline and online. Should I delete the 'mail' folder from my library?

On a Mac OS X 10.4.11. laptop. ISP provider is Comcast. Have successfully been sending and receiving emails at home no problem using Entourage for two years. Have now taken laptop to visit away from home and clicked into the host's house wifi system - AT&T u-vers.
Entourage will now receive but not send emails. Receive 3259 error message about timing out. However, can send fine by going to Comcast's site, therefore Comcast insists this is not their problem but an Entourage problem, probably with settings.
I keep seeing an error message that my connection was lost when trying to purchase anything on itunes

I have sent a message with Apple Mail 7.3 on Mac with OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, and it shows DUPLICATED in the Sent mailbox of Mail. I mean, two entries with the very same message inside are displayed, yet, as said, I only sent it once! I am using POP.Â
Selecting "Mailbox - Rebuild", quitting and opening Mail, repairing permissions with Apple Disk Utility, restarting the Mac, and even resetting the PRAM does not fix it. I have seen the following article, but cannot find the "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks that it indicates: How to Fix Duplicate Emails Sent From Apple Email..URL....
how to prevent this duplication behavior (beyond deleting one of such messages, which, of course, I can do); I mean, to fixing whatever is corrupted and prevent such behavior happening again in the future? What is the equivalent of "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks to do what indicates the above article?Â
