Applications :: Will Apple Mail Delete All Messages In My Gmail Account
Jul 21, 2010
I had a hotmail account and about a month ago apple mail deleted all my messages from the hotmail account, therefore I am unable to access any of them from anywhere else except my mac.
I learned that that was due to me leaving the box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message." Now I fixed that and moved to gmail, as I was able to upload all hotmail messages to my gmail account through tuhunderbird.
Since I am not a big fan of Thunderbird as it is giving me some password issues, today I set up the gmail imap (I think) accunt on my apple mail, but there is no box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" for gmail in prefrences, just for hotmail.
Now I am scared, will apple mail delete all my messages from the gmail server, and if it will, how do I prevent it from doing so?
I have my Apple Mail configured for use with my Gmail IMAP account but I have a problem. From the Apple Mail app, I can not see messages that were sent while in the web version of Gmail. To me, if I have it configured via IMAP, anything I do on my phone, I should see on my mac. Anything I do on my mac, I should see anywhere from the web app. Am I doing something wrong? Can YOU see messages you sent through the web portal, on your Apple Mail app?
Any Users of Apple Mail with HUGE Gmail IMAP accounts? I'm switching to Apple Mail and am wondering if it will work with a Gmail IMAP account of 8 GIG and 80 folders? Is this even worth trying to setup or will it just crash? 1. Will it freak out during sync and give me the "too many simultaneous connections" error? 2. Is it fast enough with such a huge IMAP folder or does it crawl?
I went to send a message from my apple mail (gmail account) and it won't send. Says smtp.gmail.com is offline. I didn't change any settings but when I went in to check them, they were all gone. I added back smtp.gmail.com under description and my complete email address under server name. I then went to advanced settings and made sure the Use default ports (25, 465, 587) was checked and also Use Secure Sockets Layer was checked. I chose Password for authentication and added my complete email address for user name with my password. It still says I'm offline and won't sent a message.
I have an iMac running Snow Leopard and I am trying to add my gmail account to the mail app and im entering the right password and username and I keep getting- "Logging in to the Gmail IMAP server [URL] failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive messages." And my mail wont sync or anything. I tried with both imap and pop and neither work. In my gmail setting I have both pop and imap turned on so I dont get why im having a problem. My gmail account that I used to have on my account before I upgraded to snow leopard still works and my mobile me account works but I cant add any new gmail accounts. I've tried adding a few different gmail accounts and none will work.
My Gmail and Cox accounts and won't work well with my Apple Mail, The mail won't download into my gmail account and I frequently am requested to put my IMAP password in, and it is then rejected.I go to mail preferences and put the password in the appropiate place and I am told the password is new and do I want to use it. I reply yes but its not saved.
I cannot seem to get my apple mail to accept my gmail account or the password. Gmail works fine if I use the google site for my mail.I know if I am using the correct password because it works in gmail's site?
I want to set up an account in Apple Mail that only is used for sending out messages (SMTP). The mailbox exists, but I want it POP-ed by another method.I figured out how to suppress fetching email automatically (Preferences > Accounts > Advanced), but that still fetches whenever I click the "Get Mail" button. Can I configure a mailbox that's simply unable to check mail, but can send it?
I recently lost one of my Gmail accounts to a hacker and it was an enlightening experience. I like to keep all of my gmail messages because it's a useful history to search if I ever need to look up an old thread. However, the obvious problem is a hacker who gets in also has all that knowledge. What I'd like to be able to do is store my full Gmail account with all messages locally in Apple mail where I can backup as often as I want, then I'd like to purge my online Gmail messages. The idea is if someone hacked my Gmail account, they'd see very little messages but I would still have all e-mail copies saved on my machine.
I synched my work (.org) Gmail to Apple Mail with IMAP, and then took the account "Offline" in Apple Mail. I now want to delete messages in my work gmail, But want to make sure that the messages in my Apple Mail will save there forever, even after my work gmail account is archived or deleted? Is there another setting I can click to keep the gmail account on Apple Mail from updating, so myI can start deleting personal emails from my gmail ?
I have Mail checking my [URL] address. I want to use Mail to also check my Gmail account. No problem in setting that up... done already. Here's the issue: I have more than 1.1GB of mail in my Gmail account, including file backups on Gspace. I don't want Mail to download all those messages... only the past week or so, then move forward with Mail downloading new Gmail messages only. Is there a way to tell Mail NOT to download my entire Gmail history?
I have my Gmail account set up through Mail, but I cannot figure out how to keep it from removing my messages from the Gmail server. Everytime Mail downloads a message its gone from my web based Gmail. Is there anyway to disable this?
This has been bothering me for more than a year now, I did at one point give up and bought Mail Plane which is pretty much gmail without using a web browser. But anyway, I get these annoying subfolders (Highlighted in Red) when I register a Gmail account with Mail.
Is there a way to use one gmail account and retrieve that mail using different macs using mail? My buddy and I are setting up an account for our business and we want to be able to retrieve mail using the same gmail account. He will be using his mac from his place and I will be using my mac from my place. We want to be able to access the same account using our individual macs.
When I send 1 email to 1 recipient from my gmail account on mac mail, the mail activity monitor on the bottom left indicates that I am sending 2, 3 or as many as 5 emails. It takes a long time to send when this happens. It only happens when I send from the gmail account and never from my other accounts. I have no "extra" mail in my sent folder. Is someone else sending email from my computer?
Mail will NOT let me select IMAP and will go to POP automatically for my gmail acct. I have the POP disabled in gmail and IMAP enabled. Why is this so difficult Is there a way to have the option to select the type of account I want as it is not giving me one like it is supposed to.
When I open my mail app and delete a message, it deletes it from my mail app inbox. When I log on to gmail, I see the mail still there. Is there anyway to delete from mail, and have it remove the message from gmail altogether?
I have decided to start using gmail and keeping my email online instead of stored locally in the Mail program.
I have all my old mail and sent mail downloaded locally in the Mail program.
Is there an easy way to export all of that into gmail? I see I can import mail into gmail from other mail accounts, but here I am talking about importing mail that is now stored locally.
So I am not sure how I got this virus or what happened...but somehow --a virus logged into my gmail account and sent out 500 random messages. The messages themselves are odd...they have no subject, then it has a random link to a website with a domain ending co.cc. Anyone know what this virus is? Importantly, how do I get rid of it?
For some reason Mail won't delete my sent messages - deleting them just changes the subject / sender line colour from black to grey but they don't go anywhere.
This is something I find really annoying. I cant stand the clutter of old messages, so junk mail made a permanent fixture urks me even more.
I work on 2 machines and they are having similar isues
1) A Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5
I have one message stuck in my inbox, when I select it and click delete, it just turns grey. and if i drag the message to the trash nothing happens. When I classify it as junk mail it disapears (does not go to the junk mail folder), but when I go back to the inbox its there again. This message contains no data, nothing shows in the preview panel and I cant find a file for it on the hardrive (Home / Library / Mail)
2) New 17" macbook pro laptop
On this machine Im having the same problem as above, but with a couple messages. There is also a bunch of messages in the junk mail folder I cant erase.
Does anyone have any ideas here? I really dont want to backup / wipe / restore Mail on both computers.
And with this happening on both my machines, I cant be the only one having this problem...
I have just set up IMAP within Applemail. I used to have a GMAIL account linked to the Appple mail but have since deleted this connection within GMAIL and disabled IMAP there to. I cannot delete the GMAIL tab as per the screen shot. Maybe Im missing something here?
I'm a new Mac user trying to get Apple Mail set up with Gmail IMAP.
1. I have about 8GIG in my Gmail Mailbox. I setup Advanced IMAP setting in Gmail and set it so that the All Mall folder does not sync. However, the All Mail folder is already in my Mail app.. How can I delete it?
2. How can i force downloads of all the other folders?
I have just discovered that my IMAP email account is not saving any of my outgoing SENT emails on the server ! I have checked the settings and the option to store on the server is ticked.
I spoke to my ISP guy just now and he confirmed that there is nothing in the sent folder despite the fact that I sent three important emails today. He suggested I 'untick' the option and save sent emails on my local iMac - and I did - and it works.....
But what is the point of an IMAP account ?? I need to work at two locations and synch the accounts ...
I found mention of this elsewhere on Google... but cannot see any fix.
(I have all updates downloaded and installed on the iMac as of this afternoon)
I cannot log in to my iphone, ipad or Apple mail with my google credentials. I made sure everything was being typed in correctly. The weird thing is, I am able to log in using [URL]website.
I don't know why I am not able to check my email unless I use the website. I tried clearing the captcha and even changing my password in gmail.
Can anyone tell me why this would come out of nowhere? I have not changed any settings on any of my devices or even though gmail. What's going on?
For the last week or two, my apple mail has no longer been receiving my gmail. I have done nothing to the preferences.
Has anyone else had this problem and would anyone know how to fix it?
All I can think is something may have changed on their servers in the UK since it changed to 'googlemail', however, I managed to get a 'gmail' address before the switch.
I would like to know how to consolidate my two inbox from gmail and apple mail? Because every time I get an email and read it in inbox it still shows as unread in gmail folder "All mail".
