App Store :: How To Restrict Access To It

Jun 13, 2012

Is there a way I can restrict my users from downloading apps from the apps store. With the imminent release of Mountain Lion, I do not want my users to be able to download it without my permission.

OS X :: How To Restrict Apple Genius Access?

Aug 5, 2009

Problem: My Mac goes in to have a part replaced at the Genius Bar tomorrow and I have sensitive files on my computer for work that I can't allow anyone to look at. The tricky part is, Apple needs a log-in account on my Mac with Administrator access so they can run diagnostics. Problem is, even if I restrict the account I created called "Apple" to not be able to open certain files, since the log-in account "Apple" is an administrator account, all they have to do is click "Get Info" on the folder, click the padlock, and change the settings I put in place.

Is there any way to restrict access of another administrator account on my Mac? If so, how do you do it? I want to be able to essentially allow the administrator account "Apple" no access to my user files in my home folder.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Restrict Access To Certain Websites

May 20, 2012

There are a couple of websites I want to restrict my younger children from. I tried to enter them in the parental controls in System Preferences using the "Try to limit access to adult websties automatically" option, and entering the sites I wanted to restrict them from. What I got was kids asking me every five seconds to approve another website - it seems that only sites on the approved list under Customize were allowed. That isn't what I wanted. I wanted only to enter two or three sites that they are specifically precluded from.

OS X :: How To Restrict Access To Mounted Drive To An Administrator Only

Jan 16, 2009

I have an external drive mounted via firewire and formatted with HFS.

I would like this drive to be accessible by an administrator, say admin, only and have used Finder to set permissions. So the user and group for the /Volume/<drive> is admin:admin.

I have created a standard user, say user. However I find that when the standard user logs in he can access the volume and the rights for the drive become user:user instead of admin:admin, so that drive is accessible by any login user no matter what permissions I set as an administrator.

OS X :: How To Restrict Access To Second Internal Hard Drive By Account

Feb 20, 2009

I am my computer's administrator, and I have a secondary 'guest' account that anyone else can use. So, I know that all my data on my main, OS hard drive is secure from the guest account accessing it, but what about the additional hard drive that I have installed?

I have a good deal of sensitive data and files stored (and aliased) on my second internal drive that I do not care for 'guest' users to stumble upon. How can I restrict access to the secondary storage hard drive from my Guest login account, and/or just plain hide it from it? Surely, there is a need for this that has brought about a solution.

App Store :: Cannot Access Sign In Itunes Store After Lion Upgrade

May 25, 2012

Have just upgraded my macbook to Lion.  I logged into the app store, bought, downloaded and installed Lion no problem.

After upgrade I returned to the app store to download ibooks author.  I can find ibooks author but when I try and install the app I have to sign in and I get a "connection failed" error message.

The same happens in iTunes when I try and view my account - "The network connection failed"

I can access the internet with no problems - including secure sites. I can access software update with no problems.

I have made no changes to my network settings - could sign in and download apps before upgrade, unable to after upgrade.

App Store :: Don't Have Access To That Apple ID

Apr 7, 2012

I bought this iMac which was purchased new Nov 24th 2011 and I bought it from a friend in January 2012 as well as purchased the applecare. When I did a clean install it removed the iLife bundle and when I try to reinstall it the app store tells me this: These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.I would not have done the clean install if I knew that it would take away some of the features but when the Apple employee told me how to do it he didnt tell me that some items would not reinstall without the original Apple ID (not that I blame him).Is there any way that I can get them back on my computer without having to purchase them. I think that since they came with the computer originally that it should be possible.

MacBook :: Can't Access App Store On 10.6.8

Dec 9, 2014

I'm on a macbook circa 2007 (not eligible for Yosemite). I was running 10.7.5 (lion) but had issues and had to reinstall from snow leopard disk. I've updated to 10.6.8 and installed combo update, but App store still won't open (it's crossed out in icon in doc and I get an error that says I need 10.7 to open it). So I can't update to 10.7 without app store and I can't open app store with 10.7. Catch 22.

I've tried restoring from Time Machine backups where system was using 10.7.5, but those restores failed.

I can't access any of photos, etc.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Restrict Other Documents From Opening In Pages

Feb 8, 2012

From the response I received in the Pages forum, this appears to be a Lion-related question. Since I upgraded to Lion, I noticed that whenever I open a specific Pages document other recently-opened Pages documents will also open. Is there a way to prevent this? I was unable to find anything in Pages preferences.

Software :: Suddenly Cannot Access ITunes Store

Starting yesterday, I can no longer access iTunes Store via iTunes. I've not changed any settings whatsoever on my MBP. The only thing I've recently done is run an advertised security update a couple of days ago. When I start iTunes and click on iTunes Store it just says "Accessing iTunes Store...", but never loads anything. I can update my podcasts with no problems. Could this new security update have screwed something up?

ITunes For Mac :: Can't Access Store - Comes Up With Unknown Errors

Jun 21, 2014

I'm trying to run iTunes Match and it simply stalls at stage 1. Yes, I believe I've tried the fixes listed in other places where this seems to have been an ongoing issue since launch - and not all of these work for the people there, either. These include removing stoping and starting Match, stopping and starting Genius, stopping and starting Genius and Match, moving the iTunes Library files and reimporting them as new libraries and so on. Nothing is working for me.

I run iTunes match and it matches "most" of my songs and then stalls. I've left it for days to see how long the stall is and it never clears.Over the last few days' stops and starts, it's matched as follows:

13508 / 14010
13535 / 14010
13541 / 14010
13998 / 14010

[Code]...

iTunes frequently also can't access the iTunes Store or comes up with unknown errors.this is an entirely new music library. I set up my Mac from scratch a few months ago with a new SSD. My music library had a lot of old files sampled at low bit rates - I was re-ripping to flac for my hifi, so I decided to re-rip to iTunes as well at the same time (my previous iTunes Match had lots of stuff it couldn't match, but was uploaded at a low bit rate since that was all that was available). My network connection is wired and I have very good broadband (cable) speed.

Software :: Unable To Access Update / ITunes Store

Apr 18, 2007

I have used an iBook G4 for a year and a half I only use wireless Internet connections. I recently started getting error messages when I tried to perform a Software Update. The error reads: "Software Update can't connect to the update server. Make sure you're connected to the Internet, then try again. Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem."

Perhaps at the same time (I hadn't paid too much attention at first) I found that I was unable to connect to the iTunes Store. This error message read: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was refused. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." A google search shows that the second error message is common among PC users who think apple is conspiring to keep them out of the iTunes store with iTunes v7.1.1. I don't know about network settings but I don't make a point of ever fiddling with them. I assume both of these problems are symptoms of the same network mess-up. Can anyone steer me clear?
