i recently purchased an iMAC g4...i love its great esthetics, but have been having trouble streaming netflix movies, Now i know its kinda old, heck its ancient in the IT community, but its my budget mac...and i love it! View 6 Replies View Relatedi've been searching for a way to use an iMac G4's LCD Monitor as an external monitor for any other computer. So far i haven't found a solution for it, so during my search i read that it is possible to remove the LCD display from the iMac G4's case and install another LCD display that you know for sure it will work on any other computer. So, my question is, is this possible? if so, what LCD monitor would fit in the case? i know that there's a problem when trying to pass the wires through the arm, but i think i can handle that since i already tried with some random cables, so if you know of an LCD that could fit in the case.

Yesterday, before I left my house I shut down my iMac as always and for the heck of it, unplugged the computer, modem, and router stopped home today, and decided to hop on the computer real quick. plugged everything back in and the computer will NOT turn on. No noise, no lights, nothing. It was fine yesterday--I shut it down, unplugged it, and plugged it back in today---now it is completely dead! So I tried other plugs and no dice. Never had any power or shutdown/starup issue before. I called Mac---but outside of driving an hour to the Apple store--it wasn't much help. The guy did say it was most likely the cord. I would be wiling to try that--as it would be a cheap option, but it looks like I may have to drive to the Apple store anyway to get a cord that fits. I also tried resetting the PMU that Apples site recommends--and nothing. Any suggestion would be great. With the holidays the thought of dropping big $$$ on computer repairs is not appealing.

i just opened my imac g4 1.25 ghz 17" (lamp imac) and found a wire that is taped at the end and apparently not connected somewhere.. as you can see in the pics, the one i'm holding with an orange tip at the tip.. i dont really know the history of this imac.. :c
is this a cause for concern on my part? i'm replacing/upgrading the dvd rom and hard disk.. that's why i saw that wire.
My Mac G4 cannot boot from CD, it show kernel panic message when it start booting from CD, the hardisk no problem, but it can boot from firewire connected external hard disk.

Almost every time I go to do something, I get the spinning ball and have to wait before it performs the action. I even get the ball briefly when I click OK on a dialogue box. I have run the disk utility to repair disk permissions several times, but that doesn't seem to help. What can I do to get the Mac to run faster as it used to do?

I selected VGA as the input with the TV's remote, but after the initial Apple icon shows up when I start the Mac, the TV then displays the "No Signal" box. I do not have the TV hooked up to my digital cable box, as I have no connectors for that. I only want to use it for my Mac. Thanks for any help.

I've already tried this with two different brands of flat panels (RCA and Samsung) and both get no signal. The iMac does recognize the model of flat panel connected to it, the flat panels do not recognize the iMac, nothing but a blue or black screen. Already tried powering down and resetting both the iMac and flatpanels, resetting the memory on the iMac, trying all the HDMI ports on both flatpanels. Nothing works.

So when I update/send emails/move email from one folder to another on my mac they update online and on my business partners (PC), and the same at the other end so it update son my Mac.
I also need to be able to send HTML e-newsletters.
This is for my business with 6000+ email addresses so I don't want to really have to change my works email address and use googlemail instead or something.
Currently I use a combination of Windows Live Mail (its actually pretty good for hotmail) and Outlook 2003 (flakey at times but great and easy for sending HTML emails).
All the iMac mounts I find have arms and such. What about a mount that mounts flat against the wall like flat tv's? I can't find any searching...

What's the best way to make sure the two stay networked and connected? At the moment I have to manually click connect to the Mac mini each time and enter my password. Using the same wireless network I was able to video iChat with another Mac user in the house.

I have added a Mini to my Apple family and Im loving it so far. For a while now Ive been ripping Blurays on my iMac for streaming to my PS3 for playback. Well the Mini has taken the PS3s place as my HTPC. So I setup the Mini on my network and all is well. I can connect to my iMac from the Mini and Vice Versa. I can screen share, no sweat. I can copy and paste files between the 2, no problems. My issue is mainly with the program Plex and iTunes. All my BDs are stored on my iMac so I pointed Plex to the iMac drive to add the movies. It appeared to work until I restarted the Mini at which point it appeared to lose track of where that folder is. If I try to play a movie it gives me an error like "file doesnt exist". I can go back in and add the source again, but this is starting to take a while to do and it keeps losing link when I shut one of the machines down.
So my question is... is there a way to automatically mount a shared folder on my Mini upon startup? Anyone have experience with plex know of a better way to do this? I tried it as an SMB share but that also didnt seem to consistent. iTunes is a whole other issue. I dont want to have a different copy of iTunes on all my Macs, not sure how to address that one though. Ill have to start googling. I would prefer to have my iMac as the mainframe storing all the media and have my Mini and MBP get its content from there, but Im having a tough time figuring that out.

1. Due to the smaller HDD on the MBA, I am thinking it would be nice if the MBA iPhoto could 'see' and store a local copy of for example the last 20 events in the 'main' iPhoto on the iMac. Alternativly, all events from 2012. I can't use iCloud on the iMac because I don't want to update the iMac to Lion (won't bore you with why). Managed to get OTA syning of iCal via iCloud using IMAP just last week which was my only really driver for getting Lion on the iMac.
2. My whole music library is 55Gb so again, this is too much space to take up of the 256GB. Clearly I have the iPod classic 120GB which I would generally have with me, but it might be nice to have a 'selection' of music from the iTunes library on the MBA. Is there a way the MBA can network to the iMac iTunes library and take for example a few auto-playlists? I use Dropbox, and I now have access to Google Drive which should cover my needs to sharing documents. I guess I could put 5GB of music on Google Drive, and point the MBA itunes library to that. Although won't this mean I have to double account for the 5GB worth of music on the iMac (5GB in itunes library, 5GB in local copy of Google drive).

I can't remember if it was like this or not before, so I am wondering is this bent? And if so what should I do?
