IMac :: Adding Memory Stick And Dual Channel Capabilities

Nov 18, 2010

Computer has 2x512 memory sticks. Can I add one 2gb stick since the CPU sees only 3.3gb total? I realize I'm losing dual channel capabilities.

MacBook Pro :: How To Know About DDR3 Memory And Dual Channel

Jun 6, 2010

I upgraded my late '09 13" MBP to 4gb, but one of the sticks apparently died. I'm about to replace it with my old 1gb stick so then I'll have 3gb total ram.

Will this turn off dual channel mode?

IMac :: 27" Not Reading SanDisk Memory Stick Pro?

Jun 12, 2010

My relatively new iMac 27" accepts and reads the memory stick on my Canon EOS Sxi, and my Sony dsc-h55 Cybershot. However, my wife has an earlier model Sony Cybershot, with a SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo, and the iMac doesn't read it. I put it in, and nothing happens. With the other mem sticks, after I insert it into the SD Card slot, iPhoto starts, and reads the contents of the card. Should it read the SanDisk Stick?

If I remove the memory card it will read the internal memory of the camera. When I first bought the memory stick it worked just fine but now I get these two error messages.

Hardware :: Adding More Memory To An IMac?

Jun 7, 2010

How should I go about adding more memory to my 2008 iMac? I currently have 1gb and I would like to upgrade to 4-6gb, depending on the price. I've heard OWC is pretty good all around, but it appears to be that they're only compatible up to 2007 imacs, so I'm assuming that wouldn't work for my computer. What's a good, reliable, and cost-efficient brand that will be compatible for the computer I have? and how would I install it?

Mac Pro :: Operate In Triple Channel Mode Based On The Memory Configurations?

Mar 11, 2009

Call me crazy but are we all assuming the Nehalem Mac Pros can operate in triple channel mode based on the memory configurations suggested by Apple? I can't find anywhere on Apple's site or in the user manual that spells out the ability to run in triple channel mode. I know the integrated memory controller can operate in dual or triple channel mode. Being dual only would explain the number of memory slots. Can any owners of the new Mac Pros confirm triple channel operation? Or has anyone seen it documented one way or another by Apple? I'd love to be wrong...

OS X :: Adding Memory And Then Running The Memory Utility Application?

Mar 21, 2009

I just bought a early 2009 MAC Pro and it came with 3GB of RAM, I ordered 3 2GB sticks of memory to replace the 3 1GB sticks that I had in there from Kingston. I turned off the unit, I popped the little levers and pulled the memory out of slot 1, 2, 3 and then replaced the memory with the new Kingston in slot 1, 2, 3

One of the sticks in is not working at all and I get the RED LED light no matter what slot I move that chip to. So I am running on 2 of the new Kingston memory chips.

Can I mix the memory and add the 1GB into slot 3 and 4 with slot 1 and 2 full of 2GB chips?

Also how to I run the memory utility again? I went to /system/Library/CoreServices/ and then I see the program Memory Slot Utility.app

How do I run this? I'm used to no spaces and I type ./then program name

Intel Mac :: Can't See Memory Stick

Jun 10, 2012

My company started to use encryption software on our computers in work. They use PeeCee, I have an iMac 3.2GHz Intel. I bought a 16GB Tough N Tiny Verbatim Memory Stick. The encryption software used was TrueCrypt as you can use it both on Mac and PeeCee.  The problem is I can see my memory stick on a PeeCee but not on my Mac. The IT is indifferent to my issue. He reformatted the stick a number of times. Says it comes up on the Mac in his workshop, however, it doesn't come up on every Mac computer in work. And more importantly it doesn't come up on my Mac.

I have reformatted to FAT32, reformatted to Mac, given it to the IT guyS!!, updated all software on all computers, I've used terminal to locate it, I've used Disk Utility to locate it. is it my Mac's fault (other memory sticks come up), is it my sticks fault (it did work once, and works on all PeeCee and some Macs), should I burn it and buy a new one (theres nothing of any importance on it?

It completes successfully, and works within Snow Leopard however when I plug it into Windows, it says its unformatted and needs formatting. It only gives me the option to format 200MB!!! What is going on? I know formatting more than 2GB in FAT is impossible or something but I did it with my external HDD and it works perfectly in Windows.

Mac Pro :: Memory Stick Not Correctly Recognized (Sometimes)

Mar 24, 2010

I just recently purchase a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. It came with 1GB (512 x 2 sticks)of memory, I purchase 8GB (4GB x 2 sticks) of ram for it. I checked to make sure I have a total of 9Gb of ram. However, recently I found out sometime my Mac Pro only recognized a total of 5 GB of ram, when this happen, in Hardware Profile it always appear that I have 2 sticks of 512MB ram and 2 sticks of 2GB ram, instead of 4GB. Restarting sometimes solve the problem, but sometime it still won't help.

Did I do anything wrong? (I put a pair on tray A and the other pair on tray B, I also tried to switch them, which seems to reduce the times this happen, but still not completely avoid it). Or is there something wrong with the ram? (But this should not be true because after reboot most of the time it will correctly shows 9GB of ram in total). All the stick is always recognized, just the those 4GB sticks are sometime recognized as 2GB.

I have an iMac G3 500 and I bought a 4GB memory stick for it, but when I plug it in it doesn't appear. Is it an incompatibility with the hardware? Is it usb 1.1 in general? Its running os 10.4 so it could be the os as well, but I don't think so. I know its not the memory stick because I tested it on another computer. And yes I tried the keyboard ports and the ones on the machine itself.

Hardware :: Memory Stick Damaged - Not Readable?

Dec 7, 2008

I am literally less then a week into being a mac user, so forgive me if I come across as a little ignorant. I'm using Leopard and a 500gb Imac [I don't know if this makes much of a difference? I was using a 4gb Kingston usb stick to move files from my old pc to the new Imac and made the mistake of not ejecting properly since then every time I insert I get "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I've googled and googled trying to find some way to fix it and so far nothing.

It does appear in disk utilities as "generic flash 2.0 media" and i have tried to reformat it, I erased as MS - DOS and then even tried to partition I've tried Master boot record & guid partition table both under MS -DOS [I really need to be able to use on windows as well as mac] underneath it continually says Unformatted beside partition map scheme. I've also tried to reformat using windows in the hope it might bring it back to life, again nothing - so I'm beginning to wonder have I just got a dud memory stick? I have a Kingston 1gb stick and when its inserted it appears as "Kingston" under disk utilities.
