View 3 RepliesI've got a Mac mini downstairs (plugged into my router and an iMac upstairs (connected to router via airport). What's the best way to make sure the two stay networked and connected? At the moment I have to manually click connect to the Mac mini each time and enter my password. And when the mac mini enters sleep mode it seems to drop the connection.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have added a Mini to my Apple family and Im loving it so far. For a while now Ive been ripping Blurays on my iMac for streaming to my PS3 for playback. Well the Mini has taken the PS3s place as my HTPC. So I setup the Mini on my network and all is well. I can connect to my iMac from the Mini and Vice Versa. I can screen share, no sweat. I can copy and paste files between the 2, no problems. My issue is mainly with the program Plex and iTunes. All my BDs are stored on my iMac so I pointed Plex to the iMac drive to add the movies. It appeared to work until I restarted the Mini at which point it appeared to lose track of where that folder is. If I try to play a movie it gives me an error like "file doesnt exist". I can go back in and add the source again, but this is starting to take a while to do and it keeps losing link when I shut one of the machines down.
So my question is... is there a way to automatically mount a shared folder on my Mini upon startup? Anyone have experience with plex know of a better way to do this? I tried it as an SMB share but that also didnt seem to consistent. iTunes is a whole other issue. I dont want to have a different copy of iTunes on all my Macs, not sure how to address that one though. Ill have to start googling. I would prefer to have my iMac as the mainframe storing all the media and have my Mini and MBP get its content from there, but Im having a tough time figuring that out.
I'm having a problem I think with the internet sharing feature in snow leopard. Here's what I'm trying to do. I have a cable modem plugged into a time capsule in another room, and I use a mac mini to connect to that via wifi. I am trying to share that internet connection with a couple of devices from the mini's ethernet port. I have the mini plugged into a dlink switch along with the other devices, but none of those devices can connect. The mini works fine, and I made sure in sys prefs I have internet sharing checked and it says from airport to ethernet. Can the mini only provide connection to one device? Should I be using something other than a switch?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm interested in buying a new Mac mini, however, I absolutely loath anything wireless. (I'm aware that that's a minority opinion.) I was therefore wondering if it's possible for my Apple dealer to remove the built-in Wi-Fi card (AKA Airport Extreme) from the mini, just like they'll upgrade the RAM to 2GB for me?
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy MacMini HD crashed and I now have a new HD. I had iWork 08 n the Mini. Can I move the trial version of iWork 08 that I have on my MacBook over to the Mini using my network? I have the Mini as the main computer on that home network and wanted to know if it would be just as easy doing it this way (if it can be done)rather than downloading the iWork 08 online and then putting in my activation code?

Proud to announce we are about to become a 2x Mac computer household (not including 2x iPod classics and 2x iPhone4s!)This has got me thinking about how to 'network' my new MacBook air with my existing iMac.This is what I am trying to do:
Computer 1 - 2006 iMac Core2Duo 20" 3GB RAM running Snow Leopard 500Gb HDD, not far off full.
Computer 2 - 2011 MacBook Air 13" i5 4GB 256GB SSD, running Lion
1. Due to the smaller HDD on the MBA, I am thinking it would be nice if the MBA iPhoto could 'see' and store a local copy of for example the last 20 events in the 'main' iPhoto on the iMac. Alternativly, all events from 2012. I can't use iCloud on the iMac because I don't want to update the iMac to Lion (won't bore you with why). Managed to get OTA syning of iCal via iCloud using IMAP just last week which was my only really driver for getting Lion on the iMac.
2. My whole music library is 55Gb so again, this is too much space to take up of the 256GB. Clearly I have the iPod classic 120GB which I would generally have with me, but it might be nice to have a 'selection' of music from the iTunes library on the MBA. Is there a way the MBA can network to the iMac iTunes library and take for example a few auto-playlists? I use Dropbox, and I now have access to Google Drive which should cover my needs to sharing documents. I guess I could put 5GB of music on Google Drive, and point the MBA itunes library to that. Although won't this mean I have to double account for the 5GB worth of music on the iMac (5GB in itunes library, 5GB in local copy of Google drive).

I have a little internet problem. My mac mini does not recognise my ADSL modem, so I can only connect in a PC, and then plug an ethernet cable to connect my mac, with the pc, then I can use internet on my mac. I think that I'll buy a news usb internet modem, but for now on, I would like to use Parallel desktop (witch run very good ) to connect my mac on the internet. Problem : When the windows xp of my parallel desktop is connected to the internet, my mini mac is not, even if I tried all the networking option available.

Red light for ISP and Server. All the other devices connect no problem. Have tried resetting and restarting everything. The odd thing is that ocassionally a page will load in Safari when going from choosing a network connection step to the selecting a wi-fi network step and when quiting Network Diagnostics.

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet with my medio 2011 mac mini.I'm connected to my Time Capsule which also serves as a router with an ethernet cable. The time capsule shows up in my network and I can access it without any problem, but I can't access the internet through it. (While all the other devices in my network can)When I reboot the time capsule the connecting to the internet works for a minute but disappears after that.I've tried everything I know, but I still can't make a stable connecting.9The wi-fi connecting works sometimes, but very slow.

Basically I have a g4 mac mini running 10.5 and I am trying to share from wireless to ethernet. I have that all set up in the internet sharing setup. I've tried many different tutorials online and I just keep running into an error saying it cant resolve the dns servers or whatever.
My router IP is 192.168.2.1
My macs IP is 192.168.2.10
I have the DNS numbers from my ISP
On the xbox I enter the ip of the xbox as 192.168.2.22
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.1 (router)
Then my DNS numbers manually set, I've also tried using my macs and routers IP's as DNS and no dice. I just keep getting the same DNS error. i have a bunch of ports for xbox live opened to my xbox IP. It worked for me at one point when i was using tiger but now it wont on leopard.
Can I use a mac mini to watch TV, streamed over the net using Airport extreme, on a 37 or 42 inch TV?
View 24 Replies View RelatedToday I added a new member to my Mac family and became the proud owner of a 2.26GHz Mac mini, which will be used as a home theater computer for my HDTV. It's been great, but I noticed one significant problem. I'm a usenet user, and on my MacBook Pro I download video at about 1.8MBps (not mbps, which my connection is at 15mbps) which is very fast and handy.
I bought this Mac mini expecting it to be able to do the same, but even from when I first opened Safari, I noticed the pages took awhile to load. Now that I'm using usenet, I notice I peak at 0.7MBps maximum but average at around 0.4MBps. What is the cause for such a discrepancy? I'm on a 802.11n network as well, powered by an Apple Time Capsule in fact. My MacBook Pro has no internet troubles and is blazing fast, I'm not sure why this is being so slow.
I recently got wireless internet. Before, the Mini worked fine connected by cable. It has never been connected to a wireless before. The wireless router works correctly, my $250 PC connected to it instantly. There is a yellow light on Airport and it automatically populates an IP address, whatever that means. I haven't installed any new software since it worked with a cable, no funky setup or third party anything- it's just a mac mini plugged into a TV I watch Netflix on and that's all.Â
My ISP said it's a problem with the computer, the Mac free support could not fix it. I really don't want to pay for an extended warranty or phone support on something basic that this computer should just automatically do. I haven't tried typing in a manual IP address- I don't know what that address would be. If all else fails, I will just run a cable to it again.
anyone know if a product can be registered with  if the user has no internet access?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy mac mini has problems connecting to the internet it keeps disconnecting from the preferred network. When trying to reconnect, it says there's an error trying to join the network. When it can connect, it's only for a brief period. I bought it a while back and had this problem back then. I stored it away, and only recently dug it out again still having the same problem.

How do I enable Mac Mini to download from the Internet?

I have a new Mac Mini and it's connects to the internet via Wifi with no issues and the internet works fine. After it's been connected for awhile I'll pull up Safari and it won't load a page but shows that it's connected. If I disable the Wifi and re enable it, it'll pull up the webpage with no problem. All other devices connect and hold the connection but the Mini including Win 7 systems and Android devices.

I've had my (Mid 2010) Mac Mini for a few months now and been frustrated with intermittent WiFi connection (cuts out for no apparent reason and cannot connect to the router) I have other macs in the house so I know the network is working fine. Anyway, I noticed tonight that this only happens when an SD card is located into the slot on the back of the mini. So I played around with it for a while and as soon as the card is pushed in I lose my signal ? If I eject the card from the desktop nothing changes but as soon as I physically remove the card from the Mac Mini the WiFi connection is back and I can load internet pages again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am still getting used to Appple with my new Mini. I am still missing stuff I would like to have on the Mini. Like the icon in the task bar on window OS / You know, the icon that show when my internet is connected???? the little tv screens.....
I found a Icon site. but do not understand what some of them are.
I am also having difficulty understanding how to bookmark easily in Safari like I do with Firefox etc?
Safari does not seem to offer me the option to bookmark a page and "choose "exactly where to place it. and also make a new folder in bookmark menu> all in one operation>>> also cant seem to get my bookmarks to stay in the left of screen. when open bookmark they open in a whole window... instead of on the left side of screen in folders ;like I am used to in XP. also is there a built in image capture program in Apple software... like "Hoversnap" In my window mchs ? I push the shift key and "print screen" keys at the same time and it save screen shots.
I am using a Mac Mini and that connects to the internet via a 3g USB modem. There is no WiFi in my place. Is it possible to somehow share that internet to my iPod Touch?

I know this is easily done in Windows, but what about OS X?
View 2 Replies View Relatedcomputer is connected to cable modem & router. There are 2 other computers on the same router, they other computer connect fine. I have swapped the working connections with the mac mini in question. Restarts don't always correct the problem. cleared safari history, reset cache, repaired permissions, etc. Computer will work for anywhere between 5 minutes to 1 hour, then lose the internet connection. Using same computer to manage iphone4s (if that matters)
