View 14 RepliesI've been researching for a while on upgrading my white intel iMac from a "Core Duo" processor to a "Core 2 Duo" processor. The processor I would like to use is a Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T5750 processor, which would give me 2 additional cores as well as a small speed bump from 1.83 ghz to 2.0 ghz. I figured compatibility should be fine considering the FSB speed (667 Mhz) is the same. Has anyone tried this? Can anyone tell me if this will work for sure?

View 6 Replies View Relatedi've been searching for a way to use an iMac G4's LCD Monitor as an external monitor for any other computer. So far i haven't found a solution for it, so during my search i read that it is possible to remove the LCD display from the iMac G4's case and install another LCD display that you know for sure it will work on any other computer. So, my question is, is this possible? if so, what LCD monitor would fit in the case? i know that there's a problem when trying to pass the wires through the arm, but i think i can handle that since i already tried with some random cables, so if you know of an LCD that could fit in the case.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI took my iMac panel off to clean and when I put it back I noticed as you run your finger from the bottom of the panel left to right or right to left, the glass begins to get thicker and eventually overlap just barely the metal in the middle. I can't remember if it was like this or not before, so I am wondering is this bent? And if so what should I do?

Yesterday, before I left my house I shut down my iMac as always and for the heck of it, unplugged the computer, modem, and router stopped home today, and decided to hop on the computer real quick. plugged everything back in and the computer will NOT turn on. No noise, no lights, nothing. It was fine yesterday--I shut it down, unplugged it, and plugged it back in today---now it is completely dead! So I tried other plugs and no dice. Never had any power or shutdown/starup issue before. I called Mac---but outside of driving an hour to the Apple store--it wasn't much help. The guy did say it was most likely the cord. I would be wiling to try that--as it would be a cheap option, but it looks like I may have to drive to the Apple store anyway to get a cord that fits. I also tried resetting the PMU that Apples site recommends--and nothing. Any suggestion would be great. With the holidays the thought of dropping big $$$ on computer repairs is not appealing.

Do the current MacBooks, both the white polycarbonate w/NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and the aluminum (Unibody) use the same or different LCD panels?I know that the white MacBook has fluorescent back lights for the display, whereas the aluminum MacBook has LED back lights. I also know that the white MacBook has a glossy LCD display, whereas the aluminum MacBook has an even glossier glass panel over the LCD display.I understand that both MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models use better LCD display panels, but I'm not in the market for either so that's a moot point. Since I've read conflicting reports as to whether one MacBook display is better or worse than the other what I'd like to know is if the physical LCD panel used in both varieties of MacBook is the same or different?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just opened my imac g4 1.25 ghz 17" (lamp imac) and found a wire that is taped at the end and apparently not connected somewhere.. as you can see in the pics, the one i'm holding with an orange tip at the tip.. i dont really know the history of this imac.. :c
is this a cause for concern on my part? i'm replacing/upgrading the dvd rom and hard disk.. that's why i saw that wire.
After switching from David's Profile (which was meant for a MacBook anyways not an iMac) to Colour LCD on my 20" Aluminium, I could not believe how dark David's Profile is. I have seen some 20" Aluminium iMac colour profiles but like 95% of them are for 96CA panel not 96CB (which I have). Does anybody have good colour calibration profiles for the 9C6B panel?

The second time I did this it just sits with a white screen and give three loud beeps over and over. Is there a fix for this? Is it my ram? I'm at a loss.

I tried rebooting, cleaning the DVD, inserting it into my macbook and then inserting it into my iMac and still it won't read it. What can I do?

Now, on every restart I get the same *but only when* my USB ext HDD is plugged in; unplug it & it starts fine, plug HDD in and it mounts, checked external HDD with disk utility - AOK. Never had this problem with my old 20" iMac! It's still in DoA period so is it best to get it swapped out?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ran software update and got (iPhoto, itunes, Security patch) so I ran it and downloaded everything except the Intel Security Patch. So I restarted and decided to try again. Restart didn't work as it got stuck and I had to reach around and restart by holding down the power button. When it came back up, I got the white screen with the grey apple logo and the spinning clock like icon..... spinning and that is where I am stuck, left it off all night and tried it in the morning, same thing.
I did try:
-resetting pram (nothing happened)
-restart in safe mode, holding down shift key (nothing, stuck on screen)
I would try to start up from the OSX disk except I have a DVD in the machine. I am thinking it was that security update that didn't download fully that is doing this but how do I get the imac, "unstuck"? or how do I manually eject that DVD to put in a OSX start up disk?
Have purchased a used white intel core two duo imac. It's not in my possession yet.
1. Backing up before transferring data. Can I use one of those key things (don't know what they are called) that fit into usb port?
2. Once I've backed up, what is best way to connect the two computers for transferring files?
3. My understanding is that by using migration assistant, it will transfer all of those files necessary for a particular application...is this correct, and if so, will it then put those files where they should be?
Three times in the last week or so my iMac's screen has just turned white (once with almost a ribbed pattern with thin grey vertical stripes evenly interspersed) and become completely unresponsive, with the only option being a hard reset. It's happened under a variety of conditions: while surfing in Safari, while working in Aperture, and once without doing anything (I was on the phone sitting by my computer). Each time I've restarted it everything seems to work fine for a couple days, but then it happens again. I've never seen anything like this and I figured after the third time it's time to ask for help. Does anyone have any ideas?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the white iMac, not the brand new model, and I always thought that the audio out would accomodate a mini-plug OR an optical cable. Right now I was trying to switch from a mini-plug-to-RCA to optical (TOSlink), but I see no way to fit the optical cable into the mini-plug (headphone) audio out on the iMac. Do I need some kind of adapter? Do I need to remove something in the audio out jack?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac 10.4 (I would check but I can't get on my computer) had been running slow As I can see, many other Mac users have encountered the same problem that I now have: the dreaded �blue screen of death�. About a week ago, any internet browser that I tried to open (Safari, Camino) would freeze after loading its home page, and tell me that the application was not responding. After force quitting and restarting each program a couple of times, with no positive response, I decided to restart my computer to see if that would do the trick. Upon booting up, it then started the same sequence that it is still doing now: first a grey screen will briefly show, then a white screen with the apple logo and a turning dial beneath it.
Then my computer would go to a blue screen with a turning dial under it, where it would freeze and just keep showing the turning dial. So I looked everywhere to try to find a solution. I came up with this
"OK, restart your computer, hold down Command-s and type in the following:...............

First sign of trouble:
While watching trailers at apple.com I noticed some pixels on the screen were pink and blue. Not in lines but just in random spots. They would disappear now and then when you moused over them.
Tried some restarts and eventually it would sometimes freeze at the blue screen with the mouse usable.
I did a safe-boot and everything was fine and normal. No pixels, almost seemed normal. After a few more restarts and resetting Pram, Safe mode began showing pixels as well.
I was getting concerned for the data on it at this point and hooked up a firewire cable and booted it up in transfer mode and got all my data off.
Now I wanted to try and to a clean install of Leopard 10.5.
Second sign of trouble:
Now the computer won't get past the grey screen with the apple and progress wheel. It will be just about to go to the blue screens when the wheel will freeze and thats it.
Should mention the grey screen is now covered in pink and blue pixels everywhere.
Safe-boot won't get in.. Resetting Pram doesn't change anything.
Command Option O F doesn't work.
Tried booting from the install disc, holding 'c' down it almost works then the message of "You must restart your computer" in like 10 different languages comes up.
Holding down option lets me choose b/w the hard drive and OS install disc but still gets the restart message.
I am pretty much resigned to "looks at watch" submit the official time of death on it. Ever since the original iMac in 97 this is the first Mac that has ever died on me.. Kinda shocked and disappointed.
Any confirmations or suggestions on how or why it died would be helpful. Was it a hardware or software breakdown. My guess is hardware. /shrug
Or just maybe there is a fix still out there
For some reason, a friend of mine is having issues with her new iMac (one generation back). Here is what she emailed me about the situation:
Here�s what happens in greater detail. I quit or force quit all open applications. I press the ON/OFF button until the screen goes black. I wait several minutes and press the same button ON. I get the Apple cord sound and a blank white screen. The Apple icon does not come on; nothing happens. That�s when I close it down again and disconnect it from the back and reconnect it (a few seconds). Then I press the O/F button and the Apple cord sound AND the Apple icon come back, the system revs back up. All all is well � except for the ball coming back...

Now when I turn it on it won't get passed the white screen with the Apple logo and the turning thing, what should I do? The update I was doing was the Mac OS X Update Combined version 10.7.3
