PowerPC :: Loose Wire Inside Imac Flat Panel G4 1.25ghz?
Jun 10, 2010
i just opened my imac g4 1.25 ghz 17" (lamp imac) and found a wire that is taped at the end and apparently not connected somewhere.. as you can see in the pics, the one i'm holding with an orange tip at the tip.. i dont really know the history of this imac.. :c
is this a cause for concern on my part? i'm replacing/upgrading the dvd rom and hard disk.. that's why i saw that wire.

i've been searching for a way to use an iMac G4's LCD Monitor as an external monitor for any other computer. So far i haven't found a solution for it, so during my search i read that it is possible to remove the LCD display from the iMac G4's case and install another LCD display that you know for sure it will work on any other computer. So, my question is, is this possible? if so, what LCD monitor would fit in the case? i know that there's a problem when trying to pass the wires through the arm, but i think i can handle that since i already tried with some random cables, so if you know of an LCD that could fit in the case.

I am dog/housesitting for my inlaws. Yesterday, before I left my house I shut down my iMac as always and for the heck of it, unplugged the computer, modem, and router stopped home today, and decided to hop on the computer real quick. plugged everything back in and the computer will NOT turn on. No noise, no lights, nothing. It was fine yesterday--I shut it down, unplugged it, and plugged it back in today---now it is completely dead! So I tried other plugs and no dice. Never had any power or shutdown/starup issue before. I called Mac---but outside of driving an hour to the Apple store--it wasn't much help. The guy did say it was most likely the cord. I would be wiling to try that--as it would be a cheap option, but it looks like I may have to drive to the Apple store anyway to get a cord that fits. I also tried resetting the PMU that Apples site recommends--and nothing. Any suggestion would be great. With the holidays the thought of dropping big $$$ on computer repairs is not appealing.

I just bought a Dynex 26" flat panel tv and hooked it up to my mac g4 using VGA cord. I selected VGA as the input with the TV's remote, but after the initial Apple icon shows up when I start the Mac, the TV then displays the "No Signal" box. I do not have the TV hooked up to my digital cable box, as I have no connectors for that. I only want to use it for my Mac. Thanks for any help.

The displays on my flat panel iMac G4 (2003) suddenly have gone 'red': sometimes it will return to 'blue' and be ok. Is this a dying flat panel or can I fixit?

I know that's below the required speed but there's Leopard Assist. As can be seen on that page, it says "Uncertain" ONLY for my iMac.
Has anyone done it with this iMac? Does anyone know? I'm running Panther now and, these days, that's no place to be. I want to get Leopard on my Mac before I have to <shudder> switch back!

Question to the mac gods...
Recently purchased a new desktop so i wouldn't mind tinkering with my OLD iMac G4 1.25G Is this processor just a over clocked 1g G4? I would like to add more ram and over clock it to 1.5g or higher if possible. Is there anyone who would know how todo this? I assume i would need to change jumper setting within the computer right? What would the setting be?
I mainly use this for music and simple everyday tasks and its soooooo slow compared to my MBP and MP.

I've got a 1.25GHz G4 iMac with 1.5 GB of ram running on Leopard and I'm also an avid anime addict. Lately, more and more anime are being encoded in H264 and my iMac just can't handle it anymore. In some cases, I get sound but no video (processing power is enough for sound, but just not enough juice for the H264 decoding) and the sound plays with no stutter/lag. However, in other cases, everything is laggy.
Either way, is there no way around this? It's not my main system, and I can accept the fact that it's an outdated system, but I've been able to do most things I usually do with it without problems. I'll never get rid of this baby, so I would like to know if anything can be done to stretch it's potential
"you can donate it to [fill in your name here]" because the answer is "no", or "upgrade to something more recent" because the answer is "I already have something more recent".

I have been looking to purchase a iMac G4 1.25GHz 17" or 20" display to use as an iTunes server and play some movies on it. I have a late 2008 (purchased in Oct.) AEBS that I use for my wireless. My question is will the G4 be able to use the wireless capabilities of the AEBS? If not, what will I need for this to be successful?

I'm about to purchase one and I keep getting mixed answers. I know there are two slots in this model, but i've been told it holds a maximum of 2GB, 1GB in each, and also that it only holds 1GB, 512MB in each.
Someone that has this model may know the real answer. Keep in mind, this is the 17", not the 20", so it may be different.
Also, are both slots accessible?

I have a 700 MHz iMac flat panel with 1 GB SDRAM and running OS 10.4.11. Almost every time I go to do something, I get the spinning ball and have to wait before it performs the action. I even get the ball briefly when I click OK on a dialogue box. I have run the disk utility to repair disk permissions several times, but that doesn't seem to help. What can I do to get the Mac to run faster as it used to do?

How do I connect a newer 2011 27" iMac to a flat panel via a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable? I've already tried this with two different brands of flat panels (RCA and Samsung) and both get no signal. The iMac does recognize the model of flat panel connected to it, the flat panels do not recognize the iMac, nothing but a blue or black screen. Already tried powering down and resetting both the iMac and flatpanels, resetting the memory on the iMac, trying all the HDMI ports on both flatpanels. Nothing works.

iMac, iOS 5.0.1

I just purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. It's the unibody one, from June. The Bottom panel, on the left side, under the wasd keys, for example, if I press under there, it makes a clicky noise, like the panel is loose. Does anyone else have this? Just want to make sure it isn't bad, that it's normal.

The Dell SP2309W 23" Flat Panel Widescreen Monitor with WebCam is only $300, seems to good to be true. Is it a good monitor, in the same league as the HP LP2475w or the Apple 24" LED display?
I can definitely live with the 23" and can't believe it's only $300.

so I'm thinking of upgrading to 4GB RAM for my Penryn MBP....and I'm wondering if i can swap my current two 1GB sticks in a 1.25GHz Powerbook G4 that my friend has? I double-checked and found out that the Powerbook G4 could take in 2GB of RAM max.

I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on upgrading my old Powerbook G4. I don't have a lot of money to purchase a new MacBook Pro yet so I wanted to max out the current model I have now.
The Specs:
15" Aluminum
1.25 GHz G4
768 MB RAM
150 GB HDD
The things I want to upgrade is RAM and the HDD. Is it possible to go further than 2GB for RAM and 250GB for HDD?
I want to be able to run Leopard on it and even the latest edition of Adobe CS. Hopefully Adobe CS4 when it comes out.

Title says it all really, just really slow when firing up safari, wasn't so slow a few weeks ago, not sure if the safari update killed it, or whether it is just the flashy websites killing the CPU, though the usage doesn't look too high, anyone got any other ideas what might be slowing it down, apart from those mentioned above?

I have a 15" PowerBook G4 1.33 Ghz and I discovered that the provided USB ports do not power such devices as portable hard drives or audio interfaces.
So I heard that you need a POWERED USB hub.
I get one, Plug it in. And the PowerBook still doesn't recognize my external hard drive.
My hard drive has two wires on the opposite side from the enclosure that connect to female USB ports. I run an extension cord from one of the males to the other USB port on the PowerBook which is said to work but that also does nothing.

We got a new furnace today and during the replacement, soot got everywhere. My PowerMac G4 Digital Audio was running the entire time, sucking and blowing the soot (you couldn't see it, but it did happen). My white Apple keyboard and Mighty Mouse are grey as well.
Any tips for cleaning it out? I wiped off one of the HDDs, and it had some soot on it and I'm a bit paranoid about the cleanliness of my computers.
My Mac mini (mid-'07) was also running for the entire time, although because it only has the exhaust vent I'm not as worried, but if you've got tips for cleaning that, I am looking for an excuse to open it .
PS: I'll probably open and clean everything that has either slats on the top or a fan to bring air in that was on.

I've had a 24" iMac (alu) for about a year. Now I bought a Mac Pro (Love it!). Therefore i wanted to sell the iMac, but:
All the time I've had it, dust has been building up inside the screen. I thought it was inside the glass cover, but I carefully removed that and cleaned it and the surface of the LCD element. That didn't do it...
From what I can see, the dust is inside the LCD element. Building up on the white lit surface behind the LCD crystals. (See the attached image).
