Has anyone tried to upgrade their old iMac G5 with a new Intel core Duo processor? If so how do I go about installing one?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently reset my imac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo to factory settings to completely erase the hard drive and start over. In doing so, I also deleted the OS 10.6.8 operating system that I had upgraded to. I had purchased the upgrade from the app store and it was easy to install at the time. Now, I am trying to access the app store to find that previously purchased app and re-install it BUT I cannot access the app store with my current browser and I can't upgrade my current browsers with my current operating system (10.4.11)...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new iphone 5S and in order to access my current itunes it says I need to update itunes to 11.1. In order to upgrade to 11.1 it needs and OS of 10.6.8. My iMac is only 10.5.8. Can I upgrade this imac's operating system? How?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2010 iMac running 10.6.8. It has 4GB of memory and over 500GB of available space. It meets all required upgrade specs, but when I try to upgrade to Mavericks, I get the following Alert during the Mavericks download: OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer.

I have an i-Mac 24, possibly pre dating 2007, I've had it four years and bought it from a re-furber.
But I want to be able to upgrade from snow leopard 10.6.8 ... every time I try I get the response that it is not possible with my device.
How do I get my imac to recognized the 4G memory upgrade I just inserted (from 2G factory)? It isn't running faster and the "about this mac" still says 2G.

So i have an Imac from around 2006, id IMac 7,1 with no upgrades, just the basic. Its currently on 10.5.8 software (Leopard), but i do have the dvd disc for snow leopard (10.6). Is it possible to upgrade the software on the mac, as i heard it wasnt from a friend. Also if i can use the disc to upgrade, what would happen to all the programmes (e.g word, photoshop) and pictures, videos etc. or would it be totally fine?

I Installed Yosemite to my Imac last night, must say I don't like the interface half as much as the last one! But that's not my main gripe. I don't appear to be able to search on Google. Is this deliberate, because of the rivalry between apple and Google? also since downloading ios 8 on to my Ipad2 it keeps freezing, and dropping out. Not impressed with this at all.

I have a 27" mid-2011 iMac - today I upgraded it to 16GB RAM and added an SSD (in addition to the existing hard drive). The memory upgrade I performed myself but the SSD upgrade was done by a qualified tech. Now my internal speakers no longer appear as an audio output device, instead I have a "digital out / optical digital-out port".
I cannot adjust the volume (my menu bar volume icon is greyed out) and no sound plays either through the speakers or connected headphones once I login, however I hear the startup chime when I first turn it on, so this doesn't appear to be a hardware problem - it is perhaps a driver issue?
Is there any way I can rectify this without reinstalling OS X? I plan to install Yosemite on the SSD once it's out but would prefer to wait rather than installing Mavericks on it first.I have already tried resetting my SMC, resetting my PRAM a few times and also reinstalled the 10.9.4 combo update, but neither have resulted in any changes.

As the title states, I can no longer put my computer to sleep using the power button. I have to put it to sleep using the mouse. I miss the convenience of the power button. The window for energy saver is not like the display in support, it is missing the "Allow the power button to put the computer to sleep" option. Very strange. I am running an older desktop (2009) with Mavericks, fully updated. 10.9.4

I've got an iMac 27" late 2009 with these: Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3Â Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB and I would like to upgrade my "ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB" to something higher with 2 GB. My question is: is it possible? Like taking off the screen and display and replacing the old video card with a new one without any issues?

I have an early 2006 iMac with 10.5.8, and I am having hard drive problems. I want to reformat my drive, then install 10.6. Can I do that, then restore my files with Time Machine? Will it restore applications?

My iMAC is about 18 month old, and I had a software upgrade notification for my Safari browser. When I clicked on it to upload, a program from dll.ultimatesoft was seen on the screen, and asked me to approve and install. That message will not go away. The drop down box bounces up and down the screen. I re-booted, but it is locked. I tried typing in a different web address, and was semi-successful, till the ultimatesoft screen took over again in 60 seconds.

I am looking to upgrade the RAM in my iMac. The Model is iMac (Late-2006) 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo/2 GB RAM/Radeon x1600 256 MB/20" Widescreen. I am looking to go from 2 GB of ram to 4 GB, first off, before I would buy the ram, will this computer support it? And if it does will any of these RAM's work? [URL]. I'm not gonna spend a whole lot of money, probably from $60-80 no more than that...so long as I am guaranteed the RAM will work when I install it. Because lets face it, my system is out dating fast and I'm not buying a new comp for a long time.
