Nov 9, 2009OS: Snow Leopard Bootcamp Win 7, Ubuntu 9.10.Problem: I felt I would be nice to the iMac and shut it down after a hard days work. I woke up the next morning, turned it on, and it loads up past the gray screen, then goes to the dark blue snow leopard screen. From there I DO NOT get a mouse pointer. I get zip, zilch, nothing.I have let it sit over night just to make sure it wouldn't surprise me. Remedies tried:Booting to safe mode. Boots fine but when it gets to the blue screen it doesn't do anything else.Booting to single user mode. From there I renamed the com.apple.loginwindow and the com.apple.startup file. Didn't do anything.Resetting PRAM, VRAM, ram, jingle bell, any key, * key, I've tried resetting everything possible and not possible. WHY computer gods? WHY?

Jun 23, 2014I purchased a new late 2013 27 inch iMac 3.4Ghz i5. The only thing I did after pulling it out of the box was restore Time Machine from my previous iMac. On startup the machine boots as expected, but gets interrupted by the screen turning a dark blue, and the apple logo turning bright red, for about a second or so, then boots as normal, and opens Mavericks. I've spoken to Applecare - they suggested I re-install Mavericks, which I did. The problem is still there. I've done a hardware diagnostics test - no problems. Though I wonder if it could be a faulty graphics card? As far as I'm aware there are no other issues with the iMac. The machine is under warranty but would love to solve this if possible.

Dec 8, 2014I used a new USB flash drive this morning to transfer my pictures to. It showed it was transferring them then the screen went blue and nothing responded. I shut down the computer and unplugged everything but now when I turn the computer back on it shows my home screen and I can see the mouse icon moving around but I am unable to 'click" on any of my programs and get a response.

OS X :: Intel 24" Imac Stuck At Gray Screen After Using Windows
Jun 2, 2009My intel imac 24" running mac osx 10.5 (i think, most recent one) has become stuck at the grey screen after the apple logo on a restart with the spinning gear going. This happened after restarting after using in windows mode, which I have done many times before. I have tried various things like PRam thing and disconnecting power for a while with no luck. I can start up pressing alt and get into windows mode (which I am in just now). I can startup and press c off the CD in which I have run the disk repair thing that says all is well. I tried repair permissions and it came up with some kind of error ending. I have also tried and archive install which only goes to about 5% and then tells me there is an error with installing certain files in the mac hard drive.

Mar 24, 2012My Imac has the dreaded blue screen on start up. To avoid this, I unplug the machine each night which solves the problem. I have contacted an Apple service rep who says I need to replace the hard drive. Nothing I have read indicates this. I have not added new hardware, not changed anything. Could it be my hard drive is bad?

IMac :: One Stuck Pixel In Light Blue Colour?
Aug 19, 2009Yesterday I received my first brand new iMac 24". After a few hours I notice that it has one stuck pixel (in light blue colour, so I think it's not dead).I read Apple policy about 7+ stuck/dead pixels
My question is what can I do? If I want to return it, I will have to wait 1-2 weeks and then again play lottery with panel and HW (also that option would cost me additional EUR - I received 10% discount as a student and this is the only store where I have discount (and only for one computer per year I have 10% discount) - If they won't want to switch it, I would get back 1300EUR, while new one is 1500EUR in other stores).
Second option is to try fix that myself. I read tutorial on the net and the author claims 90% success with stuck pixels (with "massaging" pixel). The only problem here is the glass, I know how to remove it, but probably there would be a lot of new dust after doing that between panel and glass - and the imac is only one day old . I try with softwer and "epileptic" videos unstuck that pixel but it didn't worke (I try this for one hour).And the third option to simply forget that exists (is there a bigger chance to get another stuck pixel if I already have one???).

Jun 2, 2014I was off of my iMac for an hour or two so my screen saver when on. I went to wake the computer and it was frozen. I tried using the keyboard and mouse to wake up the computer from the screen saver, but it would not work, so I powered the iMac down manually from the button on the back. I let it sit for 15 minutes, then I tried to start the computer up again. Now at start up, I get to a blank white screen with the spinning moving pin wheel, and that is it.

Started up on my eMac and got this blinking blue dot that looked a bit like earth in a gray square. Whole think was about an 1" square in the middle of the screen. The startup tone was normal.

Jun 19, 2009I am running OSX 10.5.7. Installed it several weeks ago. This morning, the computer was acting up a bit. For instance, in my wife's account, I couldn't access our shared iTunes library, getting the error saying it was locked. When I rebooted, suddenly I couldn't get into the machine. It just hangs on a blue screen. I've tried booting with the shift key down, and that didn't do anything. I also tried cmd-s, but don't know what to do with that at the prompt, and cmd-v, which works fine, but just dumps me into the blue screen again.
I have a bootable FW drive, and I can boot fine off that, and even see the internal drive. I've opened files on the internal drive -- it all looks intact. But I still can't boot from the internal drive. I've tried Googling for solutions, but if you google "hangs on blue screen" or bsod or whatever around OSX, you get a bunch of hits related to installing 10.5.7, which isn't my issue, and you also get articles from 2006 and 2004, etc. I was hoping it was some sort of permissions thing, but I am not really sure.

Jul 11, 2009I am a Mac-newbie who recently switched from PC to Mac. I know a little about comps and have some experience with Windows and Linux. Now the Mac. I upgraded my iMac 20" (bought it used from a friend) from Mac OS X 10.4 to Mac OS X 10.5 and everything seemed to go according to plan until it came to the re-boot and the comp froze on the blue screen with the movable mouse pointer showing. I tried the apple key with s on boot and did fsck -fy and fsck -f a couple of times. It only shows "The volume MacC appears to be okay". Everytime I typed "exit" to go to the log-in window it still gets stuck on the blue screen. I tried to start it with the installation disk in the DVD drive but now it doesn't eject it either anymore. So, the situation is: I have an iMac with that wont go past the blue screen, with a workable mouse pointer and a stuck DVD in the drive. I am extremely frustrated especially since I do not have a second Mac to read the HD in the iMAc with and I don't have a backup system (except my PC Laptop). What can I do?

-Originally planned on mainly using Windows, so I partitioned the drive to 750gb for Windows and the rest for OSX
I eventually got fed-up with certain things about both Windows and certain limitations/glitches within Bootcamp itself and decided it was time to go OSX, and use the machine properly in all it's Apple glory.
I removed the 750gb of the Windows 7 partition, restoring the whole thing back to OSX. At this point, my computer seemed to be working fine still- OSX would boot up in about a minute or so, nothing that seemed out of the ordinary. After that, I still wanted a small partition with Windows 7; so I partitioned 100gb of my drive and proceeded to install Windows 7. During the Windows 7 installation, as had happened the first time I installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp, I got the "Black Screen" issue. It crashed whilst loading a new application which I downloaded from the mac website, had to force a shutdown as it wasn't responding, and now it will not boot no matter what I try. I have searched for answers on the forums but my mac will not respond to any keyboard commands even with the installation dvd inserted. I don't get the startup chime anymore either.

It wasn't such a big problem until blue vertical lines began forming around the crack and now spreading. Sep 6, 2006I ran software update and got (iPhoto, itunes, Security patch) so I ran it and downloaded everything except the Intel Security Patch. So I restarted and decided to try again. Restart didn't work as it got stuck and I had to reach around and restart by holding down the power button. When it came back up, I got the white screen with the grey apple logo and the spinning clock like icon..... spinning and that is where I am stuck, left it off all night and tried it in the morning, same thing.
I did try:
-resetting pram (nothing happened)
-restart in safe mode, holding down shift key (nothing, stuck on screen)
I would try to start up from the OSX disk except I have a DVD in the machine. I am thinking it was that security update that didn't download fully that is doing this but how do I get the imac, "unstuck"? or how do I manually eject that DVD to put in a OSX start up disk?
