IMac :: Blank DVD Stuck In SuperDrive.... How To Open It

Okay so last night I was trying to burn a file with Disk Utility, as soon as I put the DVD in I heard it was making a little noise (most likely because there was dirt on it - I wasn't thinking properly). When it started to burn, I could hear it make noise....I didn't want to risk not having a smooth burn so I cancelled it, then tried to eject it......to no prevail.

I've tried everything in the book.......from repeatedly pressing the eject button on the keyboard, to restarting while holding down the mouse button, to tilting it on its side and let gravity do its job, to lightly smacking the back part of it........nothing is working

When I do try and eject it, I've noticed it makes 2 different sounds....1st one is, imagine the sounds it makes when you put a CD in....and also taking it out, those 2 sounds very close to each other. 2nd one is sort of like the CD rubbing against something, like a bandsaw but on a low level. It wants to work but something is getting it caught.....

that happened before and the only thing that worked was the Cardboard solution (insert a piece to pull the DVD out), I though it was the DVD brand so I purchased another (both brands are well known and the more expensive I could find), but it didn't work, now I have another DVD inside my imac.

IMac Intel :: No Burning Device Was Found - Blank CD/DVD Stuck / Won't Eject
I recently attached a Firewire CD/DVD burner to the unit. I-Tunes now sees as the a Pioneer DVR-116D...

I had the drive disconnected and from I-Tunes tried to use the superdrive, and inserted a blank disk. I have not been able to eject the disk.

System profiler show for disk burning: No burning device was found. If you are using an external device make sure that it is connected and powered properly.

The eject button does not register (show itself) on the screen when pressed.

Is there a risk of the disc getting stuck every time you put one in???? Why wouldn't apple put a pinhole to manually eject the disc or some other way of manually getting the disc out!???

Mac Pro :: Superdrive Reading Burned DVD's As Blank?
I replaced my dead Superdrive with the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-118L. The old Superdrive was no longer reading burned DVD's and some third party CD's. Now, the new Superdrive is doing the same thing. It reads DVD's that it has burned as blank DVD's. The DVD's play fine on other platforms including my older MacBook which runs the same operating system (Mac OSX (10.5.8). So here is my question; is there any good way to determine if this is a Superdrive problem or a software problem? Since the DVD's play fine on the MacBook running the same OSX,

I've tried all the usual tricks that come up on google, holding eject/trackpad on start up, eject in commands/itunes and the thin piece of card under/over the disc but nothing has worked.

When holding eject it sounds like the disc hits something as it tries to eject but due to the felt I can't see inside to see what it is?

IMac Intel :: SuperDrive Automatically Ejects Blank DL DVDs (which Worked Before)
I usually burn a "Bulkpaq DVD+R DL 2.4x 8.5GB" every month or so with my iMac. It's been ok until the last time I tried: the blank DVD is now automatically ejected from the computer a few seconds after I insert it.
I've read other people's threads asking about this same problem, and it is usually a media problem (testing with some other branch usually does the trick). However, in my case, it cannot be the media (or, at least, it cannot be just the media) because I usually buy them in 25 unit packs, and all previous units from the current pack (6) worked, but now none of the remaining DL-DVDs (19 of them) do work anymore. So... it could be that somehow the extreme hot in my room has ruined the remaining blank DL-DVDs however, since I recently upgraded from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7, I would blame the software upgrade. What do you think?

It could also be a hardware problem, but I still can burn other media (I haven't tested with other DL DVDs, but I have just burnt some CDs and single layer DVDs and they do work). In some other thread, they have already explained me how to "revert" to 10.5.6 (basically do a fresh install on an external HD and then update up to 10.5.6), and I will try this later this week. In the mean time, I would like to know if the "revert" process is worth the time. Mainly because the 10.5.7 changelog (here: [URl]

IMac :: So I Stuck My SD Card In My Superdrive Slot - How To Get Back
Well first off let me say I was pretty intoxicated and not thinking straight. I took out my sd card out of my camera, and while looking dead on at my screen i reached over to the side and pushed my sd card all the way though.

After realizing what I did i proceded to panic, yell, curse, and punch myself in the forhead. I called my buddy who works at an Apple retail store and told me that if I brought it in and they had to open it up I would be charged for the part and labor (around$200+).

I again proceded to cuss and punch myself till he suggested I hold the 27'' beheameth sideways and jump up and down. Once I heard it drop i knew I had a solid chance of geting it out. Since there's the dust flaps in the superdrive slot it wouldn't just come out by shaking. I literally had to hold it sideways on my knee and take a hairclip in order to get it out.

IMac Intel :: Matshita DVD-R UJ-875 - Cannot Get To Accept Blank DVD And CDs
I have the super-drive Matshita DVD-R UJ-875. I have tried 5 different brands of DVDs they all get spit out. (My Macbook accepts them.) My iMac has some trouble reading a few DVD movie discs, but I eventually get it to go. CDs seem to have no trouble. Just blank DVDs and CDs get spit out. I get one success every about 50 discs to stay in and can burn. I have had the problem when running in Leopard, but not so much so, now I have the problem much more profound after updating to Snow Leopard in September. I switched from PC to Mac because my wife really enjoys video and photo editing on it. She feels very let down that she cannot burn any of her work.

IMac Intel :: Stuck On Blank Grey Screen After Restart
I was trying to copy a large file from a DVD to my hard drive. The copy failed saying the disc was damaged so I tried to abort the copy but the finder was stuck on trying to copy it.

Closing the copy or relaunching Finder would not stop the copy and restarting from the Apple menu gave me the error that the Finder was doing something and I should wait for it.

So I went for a hard reboot and now when I power it on, I hear the chimes and I get a blank grey screen. No Apple, no progress wheel, no nothing.

No key combinations work. For example, can't start in single-user mode, can't eject the CD, can't select the start-up volume, etc., etc.

I tried gently nudging it in, and that didn't work, so then I tried a bit firmer and combos of that plus tilting it. Nothing's working.

Also, I figured that maybe it just crapped out on me, so I'd get a new one, but I don't think you can get the drive out if the tray is open, because you just pull the housing straight out, right?

Hardware :: DVD Drive Tray Stuck Closed - How To Manually Open
I replaced a defective DVD drive with a new Pioneer super drive in a Mac Pro G5 which meant I had to manually pull out the tray and remove the bezel on the front of the tray so the tray will pass through the mirror door cavity.

After I pushed the tray back into the drive to install the drive in the G5 I somehow managed to jam something because the tray will not open at all now. The motor attempts to open the tray and pressing the little manual tray release (paper clip through the pin hole) doesn't work either.

IMac Intel :: Burner Won't Recognize A Blank CD Or DVD?
I have a 2.8G i7 iMac. I got this in March. I haven't needed to burn any discs since I bought it until now.

When I put in a blank CD or DVD nothing happens. It doesn't ask me what to do (that's the default in my System Preferences) or take me to iTunes or anything. When I try to do a burn from iTunes, the Finder or iDVD, it asks for a blank disk, but when I put it in, nothing happens - it just keeps waiting. If I hit the eject button on my keyboard - the disk ejects. In Disk Utility it says that I have a CD-R or DVD-R but it won't let me erase it.

Mac and Disk Utility accept MOST CDs (blank, self-burned or commercial), and accept commercial DVDs, but spins then spits out blank DVDs, and claims some CDS (burned on the same Superdrive) have zero content, though it successfully burned a cheapo CD yesterday and opens it fine today
This has come on suddenly, as everything was fine until about a fortnight ago. I've tried DVD blanks for four or five different manufacturers (including DVDs from a bargain-basement spindle which it happily burned to until this - all brands now spun then ejected. Tried cleaning laser, repairing permissions, logouts & restarts etc.

IDVD (iLife 09/11) :: Converting MP4 To DVD - Burning On Blank Dvd And Play On Dvd Player
I am a complete numptie with computers so was incredibly happy with the new bit of software and cabling that easily converted my VCR video tapes to my iMac. Having copied the tape across to the Mac I then inserted my blank DVD and pressed the BURN button. Some time later I recovered the now burned DVD and inserted it into the DVD player to check all was well, only to find that because the software converted it into MP4, the DVD wont play in a normal DVD player.

My wife has about 40 VCR tapes to convert and I was just wondering if the MP4 can be converted (using iDVD?) so that I can burn it on to a blank DVD and play it on any DVD player?

Power Mac G5 :: Extremely SuperDrive Behavior / Not Recognizing Blank Discs
I was able to find a pattern yesterday. Oddly enough, it was my video camera and hard drive that clued me in. My 2TB Western Digital External (firewire 800) with software RAID was unmounted, but powered on. I turned off my camera (connected via firewire 400) and the external drive suddenly mounted itself! I figured that if different firewire accessories were interacting like that, some tests were in order. So I unmounted the drive and restarted. The superdrive now recognizes blank discs and does so consistently as long as I mount the drive after I restart. It cannot even be plugged in during startup, otherwise the original inconsistent behavior occurs.

Is my logic board dying? Is this some sort of fluke caused by a glitch in an update? I tried upgrading to Leopard as well (but rolled back), but the problem persisted so it is not unique to Tiger. I'm going to move back to Leopard now that I have a workaround.
