I thought an update to Snow Leopard would sort this, but no luck. My "Open Recent" lists in every single app are always blank, even though I have opened docs using them. I have fiddled about in Preferences > Appearance > Number of Recent Items, changing it from 10 to 15 to 0 back to 15, but no luck. It's ALWAYS blank. I've not found anyone with a similar problem who's managed to sort it.
View 16 RepliesIn an effort to free up space on my HD I noticed that within the Itunes there are, what seems to be, every version of every app I have for IOS. I manually deleted them (close to 9GB). Is there some way to tell iTunes not to keep old versions of apps when updated versions come out?Â

If I open an image in Preview, the "File/Open Recent" menu lists the name of the file. If I then close the file, but still leave Preview running, the "Open Recent" menu still lists the file. If I quit Preview, the "Show Recent" menu does not show any files. If I reopen Preview, the "Open Recent" menu does not show any files. I have a feeling this is a permissions problem, but repair permissions has not worked.
In Console, Preview is reporting the following error upon opening:
"29/02/2012 14:45:57.183 com.apple.Preview.TrustedBookmarksService: Failure to de-serialize bookmark data file."
I'm using Preview as an example here, but it holds for every app - whether they are bundled or downloaded - on my system. System Preferences/Appearance/Number of Recent Items is set to 10. I am running Lion 10.7.3 on an iMac 12,1 with a dual SSD and HDD internal drive setup.

I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.

Just today I received about 6 e-mails that when I went to open them all I got was a blank page. I tried to delete them but can not seem to do so. When I hit delete nothing happens. The e-mails are from at least two different senders, both known to me and frequent exchangers of e-mails. Any idea of what the problem may be and how to correct it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got three e-mails that didn't load right or something. When I try to load them they are just blank. They come back every time I open up mail and I can't get rid of them. Besides deleting them (which makes them just not be bold) I have tried moving them to different folders and marking them as junk and nothing will get them out of my inbox. Two of the e mails are from one of my mail accounts and the other one is from a separate account.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOkay so last night I was trying to burn a file with Disk Utility, as soon as I put the DVD in I heard it was making a little noise (most likely because there was dirt on it - I wasn't thinking properly). When it started to burn, I could hear it make noise....I didn't want to risk not having a smooth burn so I cancelled it, then tried to eject it......to no prevail.
I've tried everything in the book.......from repeatedly pressing the eject button on the keyboard, to restarting while holding down the mouse button, to tilting it on its side and let gravity do its job, to lightly smacking the back part of it........nothing is working
When I do try and eject it, I've noticed it makes 2 different sounds....1st one is, imagine the sounds it makes when you put a CD in....and also taking it out, those 2 sounds very close to each other. 2nd one is sort of like the CD rubbing against something, like a bandsaw but on a low level. It wants to work but something is getting it caught.....
i have recently been having trouble opening .pdf files properly. they open but they are all blank pages. they open as blank files in "preview", it doesnt open at all using adobe digital additions and through microsoft word i get gibberish or i get pop ups that say "word cannot open this document. the document might be in use or might not be a valid word document" ive downloaded over 5 times and each time i try with all three options and i get the same thing.
i tried to pull it into iArchiver but that also didnt work.
the file ends with .pdf
also although several other documents have done the same thing i know something is not completely wrong with my .pdf thing or any of those applications because other pdf files do open.
i tried to give as much information right at the beginning so forgive me if its too long.
How should I do to open Safari with a blank page and not with the previews one?Â

I've been using my macbook for a few months right now, and primarily use it for recording me and my band-mates on Logic express, but now, I've not been able to use my iSight on my mac. I don't know what's wrong with it, because I've always been able to take photos with friends in Photo Booth and take movies with it as well. Up till now that is. A few days ago I tried to open up Photo Booth and snap a picture, but all I got was a blank screen. The program would count down, but the screen would just be white instead of showing what it would take. The little green light next to it would go on as well, but it wouldn't take a picture, and nothing is blocking the screen either.

I have my HP all-in-one connected to an 802.11g Airport Extreme via ethernet, and through Bonjour I've been printing to it from a Core Duo Mac mini, and a 12" and 15" Powerbook. However, all of a sudden every single application on my three computers "unexpectedly quits" when I go to File>Print or hit command-P. I can't print anything! The only thing I can think of that might have gone wrong is maybe something happened with the 10.4.10 update and the printer drivers?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just turned on my 20-day old 17" MacBook Pro Unibody and nothing happens other than a LONG boot sequence. The Finder isn't even indicated as running in the dock, and the only thin the conputer is capable of is opening a few select windows. Every time I attempt to run an app, I get the following warning: You can't Open the Application (null) because it may be damaged or incomplete. That's all the computer can do. I tried to launch Onyx to clean out the baffels, but it just won't launch. The computer only shuts down or restarts by holding the power key down.

is there a way to open new apps in the background?right now, when opening a new application, the system will automatically switch to the new app once it is loaded.i.e. i am woking on a word document, and while typing, i start excel from the dock.excel will take 30+ second to load/start. in the meantime i am still using word.after 30 sec, excel loads and automatically switch from word to excel even if i am in the middle of typing. is there any way to prevent the auto switch and load the new app in the background?

I do not get the Mac OS which I am have to use part of the time. I'm not hostile to it I just don't get it. I also have to use various versions of Windows in other settings. When one works with multiple applications, which for me is all day, they overlap in a jumble on the screen unless manually configured. The icon bar/dock at the bottom is sort of useless because it does not tell you, at least I do not see how, what apps are open once they stop bouncing around or, if using a program like Word, which documents are open. The only way to check what apps are open that I see is to manually cycle through apps with the keyboard, which is sort of quaint but ineffecient and annoying On one machine which has Parallels installed with Windows 7 the Windows app icons give you far more information about Windows programs than any of the Mac applications give about Mac apps.

I usually have four apps running during the day. I keep them in their separate windows.
Is there a way to open the app in it's own window? Everytime I start an an, it opens in window number 1 and then I have to move it to it's own window. I know this isn't a huge chore, but it does take time and if you do it every morning, it gets tiresome.

I still have a couple of OLD apps that require System 9. When I attempt to open either of them I get the "Classic is starting" progress bar, but it never quite finishes. I can start Classic okay with extensions off but then I can't use the printer, and my old copy of Photoshop Elements won't load no matter what I try. I get an error message when I try to run "Install Applications and Classic Support" from my installation disk. I really don't want to part with the $$ for System 10.4 AND two new pieces of software right now.

My Open With... menu has multiple entries of apps. Example; Right click .avi file, open with... VLC, Quicktime, Other, VLC, Quicktime, Other and over and over it goes. I have rebuilt the LaunchServices database with Onyx, and this didn't work. I have also deleted the LaunchServices.plist file.
