IMac :: DVD / CD Hot When Ejected Out Of Superdrive

Is it normal for a DVD or CD to come out hot when you eject it from the Superdrive? I was listening to a CD on Mac Mini and when I ejected the CD, the CD was very hot.

IMac :: Blank DVD Stuck In SuperDrive.... How To Open It
Okay so last night I was trying to burn a file with Disk Utility, as soon as I put the DVD in I heard it was making a little noise (most likely because there was dirt on it - I wasn't thinking properly). When it started to burn, I could hear it make noise....I didn't want to risk not having a smooth burn so I cancelled it, then tried to eject it......to no prevail.

I've tried everything in the book.......from repeatedly pressing the eject button on the keyboard, to restarting while holding down the mouse button, to tilting it on its side and let gravity do its job, to lightly smacking the back part of it........nothing is working

When I do try and eject it, I've noticed it makes 2 different sounds....1st one is, imagine the sounds it makes when you put a CD in....and also taking it out, those 2 sounds very close to each other. 2nd one is sort of like the CD rubbing against something, like a bandsaw but on a low level. It wants to work but something is getting it caught.....

IMac Intel :: SuperDrive Cannot Read DVD ROM Disc
My superdrive is able to play and burn music CD's to itunes, but cannot read DVD ROM disc's. It spits out the disc after trying to read it. I can hear the disc turning inside.

I tried the following:
(1) inserted mac osx snow leopard upgrade disc. Not able to read, ejected.
(2) inserted Starcraft 2 disk. Not able to read, ejected.
(3) inserted a blank recordable DVD-R disk. Able to read and burn this disk. Able to reinsert and view items burned onto disk.
(4) inserted a Music CD. iTunes opens, plays, and burns CD onto hard drive with no problems.

I have installed Windows 7 64-bit on my iMAC27" i7 machine. it's working fine with no evident issues. But lately I found that the fan is always blowing hot air and the back of my iMAC is hot (especially on the upper left side of the back of the screen). But I don't get this issue when I am using the Snow Leopard MacOS , the MAC operates fine and everything is cold?any help please? because I work mainly in W7 and I don't want the machine to wear down because of the heat.

MacBook :: DVD Cannot Be Read Or Ejected?
I have this ridiculous problem with my MacBook (unibody). I've inserted a DVD that the drive cannot read. Because it cannot read it, it tries to eject it. Now my MacBook has always been a bit dodgy at ejecting disks - sometimes I have to slant it slightly so the disc comes out. However, this DVD just won't come out regardless of what I do. It's stuck in this loop of trying to read it, failing, trying to eject it, failing, trying to read, failing, etc.

OS X Leopard :: Unreadable DVD RW Disk Being Ejected
I was burning some files onto a DVD disk from a network drive, when the network went down. The DVD was thus left in some intermediate state, and now I can't seem to format/erase it so that I can reuse it! Whenever I insert the DVD into my mac mini (OS X 10.5.6) the drive churns the disk for a bit and then spits it out. I don't get a chance to let the Disk Utility wipe the disk for reuse. I used another disk from the same pack I bought and that worked, so it's not a disk incompatibility. Is there some key modifier I can use to stop OS X trying to read the disk so that I can let Disk Utility get at it? I already tried changing the "CDs and DVDs" default behaviour from the preferences pane.

Windows On Mac :: Vista DVD Keeps Getting Ejected
Made my first attempt at bootcamp last night. Whenever it would restart with the Vista DVD in the drive it would eject the disk and and give a non boot disk error. I have a Vista iso image burned onto a DVD+RW with Magic ISO. Is it because it is burned to a DVD+RW and not DVD-R? I know "RW" sometimes means there is a another bit of software on the DVD that's not part of the ISO. I loaded XP just fine and when I am in Windows and insert the Vista disk it recognizes it as a Vista disk. It will even start he installation but stops because the format is FAT32. So I restart from XP and it still ejects the disk.

Mac Pro :: Inserted DVD's Get Ejected Without Mounting
I've got a few purchased video DVD's that when I insert them in the Mac Pro (Feb 2008 model), it spends a minute spinning the disc and then ejects it. Other discs work fine, and these problem discs work fine in my MacBook Pro. Could this be a faulty DVD drive or some form of copy protection? If it could be a faulty drive, will Apple send me a replacement to fit myself. I don't want the hassle of lugging my Mac Pro to an Apple Retail Shop or to send it away for repair (I'd rather spend 25 to buy a replacement drive than go through that hassle!).

OS X Leopard :: DVD Icons Stay On Desktop After Eject - Disk Images Can't Be Ejected At All
After I burn a DVD-R and I eject it, the picture of the DVD-R stays on my desktop. If I open a finder window, it is there under "devices". This is true whether I use the built-in "burn disk" or Toast. I tend to burn a lot of DVD-Rs, and the icons really pile up. The only way I've found to get rid of them is to force quit the Finder, which I'd rather not do.

Disk images are even worse -- when I try to eject them, I get "unexpected error occurred (error code -36)". If I drag the image to the trash, nothing happens -- it doesn't go away. They, too, show up under Devices in a finder window. I can't select them by clicking on their icon, but they have the "eject" circle next to them. When I click on that, nothing happens.

None of this happened until I upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5. What the frak is going on?!

IMac :: SSD Drives Being Ejected When In Sleep Mode?
I installed two SSD drives into my 27" i7, one in the SSD location and one replacing the optical drive. So I have two SSD's (128GB + 256GB) and the stock WD 1TB drive.

My issue is once I put the machine in sleep mode, the iMac is ejecting the SSD's. If I boot off of the hard drive and then put it in sleep mode, I will drop both SSD's. If I boot off of one of the SSD's and put it in sleep mode, the SSD that was used for booting will not be ejected, but the other one will.

Anyone else running multiple SSD's (not in raid) and is having the same issue? I am beginning to think that I will have to live with just one SSD as the boot drive (which is not the end of the world). Or, cough up an extra $540 (not likely) for another 256GB SSD and raid 0 two of them as boot drives.

Software :: Superdrive Not Recognizing CD/DVD
My Macbook Pro's Superdrive does not recognize ANY CD or DVD, blank or full.

I did a PMU reset (took out batt. hold on/off button for 5 sec. put in batt. and restart)

I did a PRam reset (hold cmd+option+P+R on startup)

did not change anything.

I verified that the drive was operational - started with the Snow Leopard instal disk (C pressed), the disc was correctly mounted and the install program launched.

Seems like a software/OS related problem.

MacBook Air :: Burning DVD-DL In SuperDrive Using Toast 8?
I'm currently using Toast 8 to create a DVD-DL movie disk of Atonement. The Atonement file is an MPEG4 file of about 1.43 GB in size and was ripped using Handbrake.

I dragged the atonement.mp4 file into Toast 8's DVD Video window and selected "best" encoding and then slipped a DVD DL into my connected SuperDrive and then clicked the burn button.

So far after some 5.5 hrs the Toast 8 encoding has reached the 47% complete mark. Presumably after maybe 11 hrs it will be complete.

What have others experienced doing this type of work on a 1.8 GHz MBA w/SSD ?

the MBA has been running close to 100% cpu use on both processors for 5.5 hours now and the fan has been spinning at 6200 RPMs with core temps hovering consistently at 183F.

Opening disk utilities starts it up again as does waking from sleep or rebooting. resetting p-ram did not help. A disc cannot be loaded (the slot is blocked). Here in Japan, repairs likely to take 2-4 weeks....anything else I can try before biting the bullet? Macbook is 3 months old. Nothing else is faulty (except some uneven "hot" spots on the display).
