IMac :: DVD / CD Hot When Ejected Out Of Superdrive
Jul 15, 2009Is it normal for a DVD or CD to come out hot when you eject it from the Superdrive? I was listening to a CD on Mac Mini and when I ejected the CD, the CD was very hot.

Sep 17, 2010I installed two SSD drives into my 27" i7, one in the SSD location and one replacing the optical drive. So I have two SSD's (128GB + 256GB) and the stock WD 1TB drive.
My issue is once I put the machine in sleep mode, the iMac is ejecting the SSD's. If I boot off of the hard drive and then put it in sleep mode, I will drop both SSD's. If I boot off of one of the SSD's and put it in sleep mode, the SSD that was used for booting will not be ejected, but the other one will.
Anyone else running multiple SSD's (not in raid) and is having the same issue? I am beginning to think that I will have to live with just one SSD as the boot drive (which is not the end of the world). Or, cough up an extra $540 (not likely) for another 256GB SSD and raid 0 two of them as boot drives.

Sep 2, 2010I have a HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA32N Superdrive in my 2010 i7 iMac and I've had to reinstall the OS twice, because someone in the house kept messing with different files. Anyhow, the first time I installed it the superdrive was very loud, as it was the second time I installed it. It was like a loud vibration, as soon as I put the disc in. I have put other discs in and they are as quiet as can be. I've tested 9 or 10 discs and they all seem to be quiet. So I decided to put in the install disc one more time and it was quiet as well, no more vibration. Is there something wrong here or are these drives just noisy sometimes?

Dec 16, 2009Okay so last night I was trying to burn a file with Disk Utility, as soon as I put the DVD in I heard it was making a little noise (most likely because there was dirt on it - I wasn't thinking properly). When it started to burn, I could hear it make noise....I didn't want to risk not having a smooth burn so I cancelled it, then tried to eject it......to no prevail.
I've tried everything in the book.......from repeatedly pressing the eject button on the keyboard, to restarting while holding down the mouse button, to tilting it on its side and let gravity do its job, to lightly smacking the back part of it........nothing is working
When I do try and eject it, I've noticed it makes 2 different sounds....1st one is, imagine the sounds it makes when you put a CD in....and also taking it out, those 2 sounds very close to each other. 2nd one is sort of like the CD rubbing against something, like a bandsaw but on a low level. It wants to work but something is getting it caught.....
IMac (Intel) :: Superdrive Does Not Read Some Of Music CDs
Nov 30, 2014the external SuperDrive on my iMAC does not read some of my music CDs. While the majority runs without any problems, quite a few cannot be read, although they work without any problems on my HiFi and on other CD Drives. All Software is up to date and the Drive is just a few months old.

Oct 19, 2010The old one crapped out on me, so I installed one from OWC on a iMac6,1, I have taken it apart many times to disconnect it and reconnect it. Could the ribbon be bad? If so, where can I get a part number? Or is it a generic ribbon for superdrives?

Dec 19, 2006So my super drive is not able to write double layer dvd's, even though it's supposed to, as confirmed by the System Profiler. I'm using the right kind of blanks (DVD+R DL), tried different brands, and it always just stops with a "media writer error" right away. It recognizes them as writable disks when I insert them, but simply refuses to actually write.
It's the 17" G5 iSight model. Is there an easier way to fix this than to send the whole thing to Apple to have the drive replaced? Also, how much does it run for Apple to install a new super drive for me?
IMac :: So I Stuck My SD Card In My Superdrive Slot - How To Get Back
Dec 14, 2009Well first off let me say I was pretty intoxicated and not thinking straight. I took out my sd card out of my camera, and while looking dead on at my screen i reached over to the side and pushed my sd card all the way though.
After realizing what I did i proceded to panic, yell, curse, and punch myself in the forhead. I called my buddy who works at an Apple retail store and told me that if I brought it in and they had to open it up I would be charged for the part and labor (around$200+).
I again proceded to cuss and punch myself till he suggested I hold the 27'' beheameth sideways and jump up and down. Once I heard it drop i knew I had a solid chance of geting it out. Since there's the dust flaps in the superdrive slot it wouldn't just come out by shaking. I literally had to hold it sideways on my knee and take a hairclip in order to get it out.
Software :: Installing OSX Imac G4 800mhz Superdrive Tiger
Feb 1, 2009Further to one of my previous questions i have now managed to get hold of OSX tiger for my Imac G4 800mhz superdrive. However no matter what I try I cannot get this to install. If I go through custom instal it checks my disk and then comes up with a notice saying "mail cannot be intalled on this computer - intallation not possible" or something along these lines. I have also tried restarting while holding down the command button but the 10.4 disk does not appear. I have completely wiped my harddrive and reinstalled my original osx 10.3 and even taken out the airport card and additional ram memory card which i thought was causing the problem.

May 21, 2009My iMac was in the middle of burning a CD on Sunday and spat it out halfway through. Next it was spitting every disc out, including the OS disk at firmware. Anyway, Applecare confirmed the superdrive needed replaced. The machine is only just over a month old (but it is the old top end 3.06GHz model)! So, it went off for repair in perfect order, all packaged up in the original packaging. Based on the advice on others, I also took many photographs before I dropped it off at the repair place. When I picked up the machine today the back of it has been scratched in a number of places. The screen also has loads of dust/debris underneath the glass display.

Jul 27, 2008I was thinking, for the next generation MacBook Air, would you want a slightly thicker (thickest part is 0.9in, tinnest is ~0.35in) laptop with a built in Superdrive, more ports, etc, or would you perfer that Apple moves away from this with a thinner computer (0.1in thinnest, 0.6in thickest), but with same limited ports.
I would actually perfer thicker with a superdrive, since I want an air but I want it to be like a MacBook but thinner. What do you think? Btw, this is assuming the regular MacBook does not change in size, since that would sway peoples opinions.

Now my MacBook has always been a bit dodgy at ejecting disks - sometimes I have to slant it slightly so the disc comes out. However, this DVD just won't come out regardless of what I do. Other discs work fine, and these problem discs work fine in my MacBook Pro. Could this be a faulty DVD drive or some form of copy protection? If it could be a faulty drive, will Apple send me a replacement to fit myself. I don't want the hassle of lugging my Mac Pro to an Apple Retail Shop or to send it away for repair (I'd rather spend �25 to buy a replacement drive than go through that hassle!).

Feb 24, 2009Made my first attempt at bootcamp last night. Whenever it would restart with the Vista DVD in the drive it would eject the disk and and give a non boot disk error. I have a Vista iso image burned onto a DVD+RW with Magic ISO. Is it because it is burned to a DVD+RW and not DVD-R? I know "RW" sometimes means there is a another bit of software on the DVD that's not part of the ISO. I loaded XP just fine and when I am in Windows and insert the Vista disk it recognizes it as a Vista disk. It will even start he installation but stops because the format is FAT32. So I restart from XP and it still ejects the disk.

May 28, 2010so i found someone to buy my 2007 SR MBP. IT is currently running SL, so I am trying to wipe and reformat the HD. I inserted the original software discs (10.5), and it gets ejected, than I tried inserting the SL upgrade disc, and that gets ejected.
The drive accepts and recognizes other discs, but not the OS discs.

May 13, 2012I have a CD in there, but iTunes thinks there is none, and is asking me to inset a blank CD to burn a playlist. Itried restarting while holding down the mouse button, but had nothing ejected. What are some other ways to eject a CD? The eject key doesn't do anything, nor does command-E.

Feb 7, 2009I wrote a disk image of Tiger I acquired legally! to CD-R (I got a DVD with the CD disk images on it from a friend who has them) using MacDrive on my PC as the disk drive I put in my eMac does not have burning enabled for w/e reason. So, yes, I put the CD-R into my eMac, it shows up on the desktop and it then asks me to restart my Mac to continue with installation, on boot it gets to the Apple, the disk drive ejects and it boots into Panther.

I purchased a brand new IMac today, 2.66 ghz, 4 gigs of ram, etc. I purchased a copy of MS Office 2008 along with it as I need it for school. The computer came with an upgrade to Snow Leopard so I installed that first, had no issues. I am now trying to install my copy of Office and it keeps spitting out the CD. I put in a music cd and it played fine.

I've already backed up all my important files and everything I need, but when I put in my SL disc it tries to read it and then just kicks it out of the drive without ever showing up on my laptop. It is not the disc I used when I upgraded my MBP from 10.5 to 10.6 though because I misplaced and cannot find that copy, but I am using a friends copy (I don't think this is the problem). Jun 9, 2009I'm experiencing a problem with Video DVD's. If I insert them, the drive spins up, and there is the normal reading sign, but after maybe 15 to 20 seconds it ejects the DVD. I can't find any notices about these in /var/log/system.log . Sometimes the DVD's work and sometimes they refuse to get loaded. Is it possible that my DVD Drive is damaged? I have no alternative computer around.
