I purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?
I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv... BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?
Is there a way to copy pre-installed software? I purchased an iMac from someone on craigslist and it came pre-installed with Adobe CS3 and Aperture, but no discs. I wanted to somehow put those programs on my macbook pro as well. Is there any way to do this without the discs? I tried copying the actual program files but it didn't work.
I'd like to switch fron Snow Leopard to Lion, but it's such a pain to lose and reinstall programs like Kobo, super Duper,Log Me In etc. Is ther any way to transfer them into my new Lion OS?
Info:Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.8), WD 250 GB external HD
my Mac has recently been playing up. The other day I turned it on to find just a white screen so I rebooted it though safe mode. Since then i have not been able to conduct sofware updates / save microsoft office files / install any programmes. When I try to conduct software updates I get the following - 'None of the selected updates could be saved. You don’t have permission.'I have checked my permissions and they all look fine.Â
When I try to open or safe a word file i get - 'Word could not create the work file. check the amount of disk space on your startup disk' I have 19.87 GB available on my HD. When i try to install a programme such as ViursBarrierX6 I get this - ' The Installation failed' 'The installer can't creat the folder "/var/folder/qg/11kx8p703n9cx4zpp27vhm0000gn/T/intsall.12034Cd49UU". Newbie from windows to Mac SL. I download two programs for my Cannon scanner and found them installed in Applications. I created a new folder called Cannon and moved both programs into it. In the folder, there is now a file called "Open in Finder" as well which I did not add.
Question. 1. Is it ok to move files into a new folder this way? 2. Is it normal to have "Open in Finder" also inserted in the folder?
Reason I am asking is, when I initially run the scanner program I get this multiple colour ball momentarily. It is almost as if the OS is looking for the location of the scanner program - similar to an hour glass in windows. Therefore, should I delete the folder I created and reinstall the scanner programs? If so, should I delete the programs first, then the folder, or go ahead and delete the folder with the programs in it?
What I used to love about my Powerbook G4 is that it's pretty much silent, unless I happen to be burning something, or running several programs at once. However, this appears to be a thing of the past, as I've begun to notice that the fan is now permanently whizzing, and while it's not loud, it's anything but silent. This happens constantly, while I'm running minimal programs, and while my computer is sitting on my desk, not on any soft surfaces.
When i click on a program out of the dock, it appears in the dock, bounces, then disappears. If it's inside the dock, i click it, it bounces, then just stops.
I've been trying to use my iSights webcam function through 3 or 4 different programs on which it used to work, but now doesn't, I think it's because I deleted some programs on my mac (Photobooth for one) but am not sure... Any body knows why?
And if it's the photobooth reason that I think it is, then how do I get those programs back on my mac?
I'm trying to install programs, I get past the agreement page and as soon as i start putting my password in the spinny disc starts spinning... its looks like its installing, writes all the files and when it looks like its installed it says failed, contact manufacturer... I thought maybe it was just that program so I tried a different one and the same thing.
i just bought a mac for the first time and i have been trying to download programs from the internet such as msn live. Each time it finishes downloading the program i go to open the file and it gives me this incripted message and i have been trying to figure out why and i have no idea since this is the first time i have used a mac.
My parents have a really old eMac G4 that I am going to have to fix tomorrow. They don't have a word processing program so that is the main question I have. Are there any decent free word processing programs out there? The machine runs 10.3 and here are its specs:
Order no.M8577LL/A Processor700MHz PowerPC G4 Memory384MB Hard drive 40GB Ultra ATA Optical driveCD-RW Graphics supportNVIDIA GeForce2 MX with 32MB of DDR SDRAM FireWireTwo ports USBFive ports VGA video mirroringYes Modem56K Ethernet10/100BASE-T
It used to have AppleWorks on it, but since I've reinstalled 10.3, it's no longer there. (I did a clean install.) Is there an option for it? NeoOffice has a 512mb Ram requirement that isn't going to be met by this machine. Also, the internet runs rather slow on it. They have a 1.5 megabit connection. Would it be better to run it under 10.2?
I completely rebuilt an old G4 Power Mac: Upgraded the system firmware. The problem is that applications like Itunes, Safari, etc, crash, they "Terminate Unexpectedly" after 5 mins or so. I have removed all PCI cards except the ATI Rage 128 Video card and it still happens. So, I have three thoughts:
1) The programs in 10.5 were written to run on Intel, and there is no hope. 2) Some piece of hardware in the G4 is causing the crashing. 3) The Rage 128 is the only original piece of hardware left....could the Rage firmware be causing the problem?
I don't have another MAC video card to try. Is there a way to upgrade the firmware in the Rage 128? I looked all over the net but could not find any.
After install of OSX Lion (from Snow Leopard). I receive every 10 seconds a message: "Cannot open program ExpressAccountsAgent, because PowerPC-programs are no longer supported". I deinstalled this program with Mackeeper, without result. The message shows every 10 seconds. Is it possible to block this message?
I get the message - hl2_osx has unexpectedly quit - everytime I try an launch CS source, DoD source or any other Half Life based game on Steam. I have read similar questions, but none are pertaining to a gaming issue. These games used to load fine until recently.
My wife couldn't install programs to her mac. It keeps asking for a password that she cannot remember. The lock is locked, so we can't change anything. I used the CD and went to the utilities and reset her user password there, but it mentions that it does not reset her keychain password. Well, I can't log in to change anything. How the heck am I supposed to change her keychain password? Will she lose the thousands of pictures that she has taken if I do reset it? Is there some way to save the data?
I have a macbook air and everything was working fine until all of a sudden my computer froze. I then rebooted my computer by holding down the power key because it would not allow me to open or close any programs. After i rebooted whenever i open safari, itunes, or ichat the computer freezes. i don't know what is going on because firefox and other programs seem to be working fine but certrain programs i open freezes up the computer. the dock stops working and the clock does not even run. i am able to move the mouse around but i can not click and open or close anything.
I have the New MacBook Pro 13inch with Snow Leopard.
I have the latest Safari, Firefox, and Flash.
Recently I have been noticing that while running flash programs on Safari my browser will freeze and then I have to force quit the application.
Thinking this might just be a Safari problem, I downloaded Firefox but I am experiencing the same problems. I tried running Safari using 32-bit and Rosetta but still experiencing crashing.
I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem but I am currently running Lion and I can't seem to get past the step that asks for your password whenever you install a program. It asks for my password, I type it in but it does not proceed to the next step. It would be great if anyone can assist me with this issue.
I'm a total Windows newbie and I'm having trouble moving programs that I've installed onto Parallels 4.0 into my boot camp partition. Is this even possible?
If so what is the best way to go about quickly accessing programs from the Parallels virtual machine?
Keep getting "System extension was not installed properly" message at start up after attempting to instal upgrade osx (snow leopard 10.6) right now I have osx 10.5. How do I repair it. Can I use SL 10.6 on a 2006 IMac?
I have Leopard 10.5.4 installed and would like to update my graphics with the new patch. I'm getting this message when I try to install: You cannot install Leopard Graphics Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.
My system is as follows: 1.8ghz PowerPC G5 (Single Core) NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Mac OS X 10.5.4
I installed new RAM. BUT, there is some trouble that I hope you can help with:1. My G5 sometimes reads 6.5 gigs of RAM, and sometimes 5.5 gigs of RAM. NOTE: Slots DIMM6/J43 & DIMM6/J44 vary in gig size (see at bottom)2. I can't shutdown. The icons disappear from screen, but, fans rev-up, and screen background remains, but, computer won't shutdown. I have to shutdown with power button.3. I've Reset PRAM, unplugged power and disconnected all plug-ins,and then started again. No change.4. I've done disc repair off of OS X disc. No change. Size: 512 MB
I have a PowerPC Imac. I have OS 10.4.11 installed on it. Today I started it up and it was working fine, however it froze while trying to load Photoshop. I had to force shut down and when I tried to reboot, I got a flashing folder and question mark. I have tried running Disk Utility, but it gets stuck at the Gathering Disk Information stage. I have tried resetting the PRAM (I think that's what it's called). It won't let me start up in safe mode or single-use mode. When I try to specify a startup disk, my hard drive is not listed.
What do I do? Is there any way to salvage this? My biggest concern are my pictures of my family that I unfortunately have not backed up.
So I installed the latest update to Flash hoping it would help with my periodic spinning beach balls when using Safari (plus, Firefox told me I needed to update my Flash). So, I don't see anything in my Applications folder. Where is it and how would I uninstall it if I wanted to?
