PowerPC :: Installed RAM But G5 Reads 6.5 Gigs RAM - How Can I Prevent From It?

I installed new RAM. BUT, there is some trouble that I hope you can help with:1. My G5 sometimes reads 6.5 gigs of RAM, and sometimes 5.5 gigs of RAM. NOTE: Slots DIMM6/J43 & DIMM6/J44 vary in gig size (see at bottom)2. I can't shutdown. The icons disappear from screen, but, fans rev-up, and screen background remains, but, computer won't shutdown. I have to shutdown with power button.3. I've Reset PRAM, unplugged power and disconnected all plug-ins,and then started again. No change.4. I've done disc repair off of OS X disc. No change. Size: 512 MB
Sorry if this has been asked recently, (searched but couldnt find it) but i am thinking about upgrading the RAM on my 1.5GHz PB G4 from 1.5 gigs to 2 gigs of RAM. What type of performance increase should i see? Is it worth the money?
I'm looking into upgrading the RAM of a late 2006 MacBook Pro from 2 gigs to maximum of 3 gigs. Should I just get a 2 gig chip and replace one of the 1 gig chips with that, or would I be better off purchasing a pair of 2 gig chips and replacing both of the old 1 gig chips with them? So basicly I'm asking wether the RAM chips should be in identical pairs or does it matter?
I bought this in sept. of 08. The 24'' 2.8 ghz interl core 2 duoMy mac came with 2gig 800 hmz DDR2 SDRAM. what are good places to upgrade to 4 gigs. I have $200 in amazon gift cards, so that seem to be the front running. Do I need a certain brand or will any brand work as long as its ddr2 sdram?
Is there a way to prevent the PB from going to sleep after the wall charger is unplugged when using the clamshell mode? I'm going to use my PB as a carputer and want it to run for awhile after I turn off the car..I know the PB will go to sleep when it loses power in clamshell mode..
I just added a pair of Kingston 2GB FB DIMM PC2 6400 sticks of RAM to my Mac Pro 8-core on top of the two 1GB RAM sticks that the computer came with. I was expecting a total of 6 GB of RAM but when I go to computer info it says I only have 4GB which means that the new Kingston sticks are reading as 1GB each instead of 2GB.
I purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?
Keep getting "System extension was not installed properly" message at start up after attempting to instal upgrade osx (snow leopard 10.6) right now I have osx 10.5. How do I repair it. Can I use SL 10.6 on a 2006 IMac?
I have Leopard 10.5.4 installed and would like to update my graphics with the new patch. I'm getting this message when I try to install: You cannot install Leopard Graphics Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.

I have a PowerPC Imac. I have OS 10.4.11 installed on it. Today I started it up and it was working fine, however it froze while trying to load Photoshop. I had to force shut down and when I tried to reboot, I got a flashing folder and question mark. I have tried running Disk Utility, but it gets stuck at the Gathering Disk Information stage. I have tried resetting the PRAM (I think that's what it's called). It won't let me start up in safe mode or single-use mode. When I try to specify a startup disk, my hard drive is not listed.
What do I do? Is there any way to salvage this? My biggest concern are my pictures of my family that I unfortunately have not backed up.
So, husband booted from OSX disc, wiped computer using disc utility, now it won't reinstall from the same disc. He says the error message is "Can't be installed on this computer." When I asked what disc he used, he says it was "the only one that let me start up from it." I believe it is disc one of the mac osX install disc version 1.0. He said the disc that was labeled for the G5 wouldn't let him boot up. He is ranting now about there being no difference between PC's and Apple. If you can, please tell me how to fix this, or at least how to get the disc out while it is the computer's startup disc. He's about ready to to hit the wall.
Update: Got the disc out and am now attempting to install from G5 OSX disc but getting the "this software cannot be installed on this computer" message. Why? It is the right disc!
My MBP has been acting up lately. It seems that whenever I put a DVD into my drive, it sounds like the computer is reading it or attempting to and then spits it back out. When I put the dvd back in a second time, it reads it just fine and mounts it on desktop without any problems. Doesnt seem to matter what kind of dvd it is; game, movie, etc. The SuperDrive only reads it when I put the disk in the second time. I'm running 10.5.6.
I bought my Mac Mini in late 2006 and have had very few problems with it up until recently. I installed Boot Camp with Windows XP on the computer and have been using both operating systems fairly equally until the Windows XP operating system stopped working correctly. I decided it would be best to back up my data and reformat, so I erased the Windows XP partition and am currently trying to make the partition again. Heres the problem: Whenever I insert the Windows XP install CD (or any CD - music or not) it just displays as 'blank cd/disc' and when I try clicking it, the Mac Mini says there is nothing on the disc. I have tried burning the Windows XP operating system to several discs as well to see if my copy was faulty, and yet it will not work.
I just got my new MBPR in the mail today and figured I'd drain the battery to 0 before fully charging it for the first time. Only problem is, the charger doesn't seem to be working properly. The light on the magsafe never turns on and the computer reads "Not Charging" for the battery status, yet it is still charging the battery VERY slowly. I've tried many different outlets throughout my house, and have taken off the extension for the power cord also. Nothing can get that light to turn on!
So I just got my airport card and it picks up the signal but when I try to pull up camino or safari it just says I'm not connected what should I do now?
I have an Airport card installed in my Cube. Whenever I turn it on it says "none of your trusted networks can be found. would you like to join the network named default?" default being the name of the network in our house. none of my other computers do this, they all join automatically. how can I fix this?
I just picked up my iMac g5 20" (2.0 GHz PPC) from the Apple Store for having the power supply replaced. Now I've lost all traces of the built-in Airport Extreme Card: When I click on the now hollow diamond-shaped Airport icon, I get a grayed-out prompt stating "No Airport card installed". Any record of an Airport Card under System Profile comes up with "No information found". My Airport Express does not show up in Network settings either.
Airport Express works fine in my Macbook Pro, so I know it's not something wrong with my Airport Express. I tried installing the "Login & Keychain Update", but can't: "You cannot install Login & Keychain Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update". Ran Disk Utility and came up with errors and unable to repair disk. The iMac was fine going in - except, of course, for the random shut-downs from a failing power supply.
I have an older Power Mac G5 that I had problems with, and hoped I could get a little help.I wanted to start fresh, so I booted the Mac OSX software disk that came with the computer, and I was able to get my computer back to factory fresh (software-wise). After I reloaded the OSX (and did all of the software updates from Apple), I tried loading a program from an original installation CD/DVD. It would not load--it tried, but eventually ejected the disk. This happened over and over--I tried different types of discs (music CDs, DVDs, software), and the ONLY CDS/DVDs that work are the MAC OSX installation discs. I have tried using a DVD lense cleaner and compressed air.
I replaced my Cd-rom/DVD player a month ago after it was giving me trouble. I bought a Superdrive on ebay and installed it. I'm still having problems though, and I can barely use it. I have to tilt the laptop back to get it to read or eject a disc. Do you think it's the drive or is it some other problem since I am on my 2nd drive? I don't have the money to have apple fix it, it's only 1.5 years old.
I have a Quicksilver 933 with 1.5GB ram and 2 internal hard drives (WD 320GB, Maxtor 80Gb). Operating system is 10.4.11, Boot ROM is 4.2.5f1. It's my understanding that some QS were produced with the ability to use larger hard drives. Mine does not and I am wondering what I can do to correct this. Computer sees and writes to both drives. The 80 is fully usable but 320 only allows 128 of storage. Disk utility sees whole drive as just under 300Gb but I can't use more than 128. I have ATA HiCap driver that will allow me to partition into sections but it's a pain. Is that my only option or buying a card?
So I have noticed that my optical drive will not read any type of music or data/software cd. It tries, but then it spits it out. It reads DVD's just fine.
I have a macbook pro operating on OS X software, version 10.6.8. I am trying to upgrade to the newest version (I'm clearly behind, I know) and when I click "get" in the app store the download drops into the dock and reads "OS X Yosemite--waiting" and the only option is to click "cancel download". I've restarted the download twice and restarted the computer once.

I have an iBook G3 Clamshell 466MHz with 192mb RAM and 10GB HD. I recently updated the OS from 9.2.2 to Panther on a single partition. The upgrade went flawlessly.Then I purchased a 512mb RAM module from a 3rd Party Vendor and after fitting it discovered the iBook no longer boots past the flashing folder/?.
I removed the new ram and replaced the 128mb module but haven't been able to boot past this flashing folder/? icon. I've zapped the PRAM, reset Open Firmware, disconnected the Keyboard then booted, reset the PMU (need to do this each boot or I see black screen only) and tried to boot from the Panther Disc #1 holding the 'C' key. I also tried TDM with my Intel Mac Core 2 Duo but couldn't boot past the flashing folder/? icon.
I would think the answer would be yes, but all the info I find on Apple's website and the search results I browsed through on the formums only mention SD cards. No mention of SDHC. My old computer only read regular SD cards, which was a real bummer. I have a SDHC card for my camera, and am hoping the new Macbook Pro I'm going to buy can read the cards.
never really had a terrible problem with this computuer until the last few months with the battery wearing out and having to replace the charging cord twice but now it seems like I have a problem here. Earlier today, less than an hour ago, i burned a CD for my buddy, when i went to burn the second disk, it didnt want to accept it. Finally, when it did, it wouldnt read I had a disk in it. When i got home, i tried other cds/dvds and it wouldnt read them either. It was making a rather bad sound, kind of like an alarm sound. The CD will not spin and is ejeceted shortly after. I was planning on bootcamping my Macbook Pro later this weekend, but if i can not get this to work, I wont be able to. I dont think i have Apple Care and the nearest apple store is about a 2 hour drive from my house.
