I'm trying to install programs, I get past the agreement page and as soon as i start putting my password in the spinny disc starts spinning... its looks like its installing, writes all the files and when it looks like its installed it says failed, contact manufacturer... I thought maybe it was just that program so I tried a different one and the same thing.
View 1 RepliesMy wife couldn't install programs to her mac. It keeps asking for a password that she cannot remember. The lock is locked, so we can't change anything. I used the CD and went to the utilities and reset her user password there, but it mentions that it does not reset her keychain password. Well, I can't log in to change anything. How the heck am I supposed to change her keychain password? Will she lose the thousands of pictures that she has taken if I do reset it? Is there some way to save the data?

BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

I have a macbook air and everything was working fine until all of a sudden my computer froze. I then rebooted my computer by holding down the power key because it would not allow me to open or close any programs. After i rebooted whenever i open safari, itunes, or ichat the computer freezes. i don't know what is going on because firefox and other programs seem to be working fine but certrain programs i open freezes up the computer. the dock stops working and the clock does not even run. i am able to move the mouse around but i can not click and open or close anything.

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem but I am currently running Lion and I can't seem to get past the step that asks for your password whenever you install a program. It asks for my password, I type it in but it does not proceed to the next step. It would be great if anyone can assist me with this issue.

My first Mac, a G4 M8570. Friend gave it to me and it has 10.2.8. I download the Firefox installer "Firefox 3.5.1.dmg" and it sits on the desktop. All of the tutorials say that Macs are so easy to install programs, just drag the installer to the applications folder, which I did. Now it sits in the applications folder. Is it installed? Nothing happened, no progress bar, no indication that anything happened. When I double click on it, the Firefox logo appears briefly on the toolbar and bounces up and down very nicely, but quickly disappears. Or sometimes the Applications icon appears instead and does the same thing. I didn't know Macs were so difficult to use! The Firefox download did say it was for OS X 10.4 and above, could that make a difference?

View 3 Replies View RelatedTonight, my sister comes to me saying that her MSN program won't startup properly. She's running OS X Tiger I believe (Her computers a couple years old and as far as I know she didn't upgrade to leopard or snow leopard) and this problem just started happening today. I asked her if maybe she had got a virus or installed any software before this started happening and she said "No." although I don't know how true that is. Regardless, I told her to try and run a virus scan to check, and she came back to me 15 minutes later saying that she tried to install a virus checker but when she tries to install it, all that happens is her finder "refreshes" (so to speak) - The top-bar at the top of her screen goes invisible and then slides back into place once the application refuses to run. No notices pop up, the application simply does not start up. The same issue is happening for her MSN program, too. From what I saw, Firefox is working just fine, as well as a few other apps on her Mac. Is it a virus? I'm not too sure since I unfortunately don't have a mac (yet)!

He being the nice kid he is decided to clean out all the spyware in my computer, trouble is there was no spyware, and he wound up deleting Disk Utility and Installer thinking the programs were spyware. So now I go to install iLife '08 today and I can't open it with Installer because it's been trashed! So I went to try and restore with my Install CD and it's scratched and isn't recognized!

I got a suggestion to just buy a (much cheaper) 10k-rpm disc instead, which is a viable option, but I'm really interested in this "new" ssd-stuff I know, it ain't that new, but it's almost affordable now...So, have anyone tried this and did you see a rise in performance?

I notice every program that's installed just about on the user account is available in the admin account. What if a program is causing the issue? Wouldn't the admin account have the possibility of being hosed as well? Is there a way to stop this easily?

I purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?

Recently I have been noticing that while running flash programs on Safari my browser will freeze and then I have to force quit the application.
Thinking this might just be a Safari problem, I downloaded Firefox but I am experiencing the same problems. I tried running Safari using 32-bit and Rosetta but still experiencing crashing.
I'm a total Windows newbie and I'm having trouble moving programs that I've installed onto Parallels 4.0 into my boot camp partition. Is this even possible?

The internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.
Can I do this? And if so how? Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).

i have tried to re-install leopard into my macbook but it is just all a mess. i inserted leopard cd (original copy) into macbook to do a clean install to my new(to me) used macbook. the computer message after choosing language says "cannot install mac osx on this computer".
1. used disk utility to reapair disk...did no work
2. erased hd..still did not work.
3. made partition to install from external hd...now just made a total mess with computer.
4.i try to start computer from dvd drive with original leopard cd...still does not work. says cannot install mac osx to this computer...
i have macbook intel core duo 1 gig ram and enough memory.
please help i dont know what to do!!!!!

i bought a new HD because i couldn't get my old HD to boot up. the old HD has the annoying flashing folder with a question mark. With the new HD, I was unable to install the OS X it said something like can't installed on this computer?

We first tried to install snow leopard with no success as it would just load a blue screen then restart. Then we tried to install the original software that came on the mac this loaded up to where we could install it but it did not see a hard drive to install onto.
I have a MBP mid 2009 ( 3.06 Ghz - 8GB Ram). Through work I managed to obtain a Lenovo 256GB ( Toshiba ) SSD. When I replace the current 500GB drive with the SSD and boot with the snow leopard (10.6.3) disc, the drive is not recognized. I go into disk utility and the only drive is the DVD drive. I put the SSD in a pc laptop and booted with a Ubuntu Usb drive and it found the SSD first go, no issue, so the drive works.

Migration issues with MBA from welcome screen!!! Does not finish keeps searching for information. Apple tech support advised to load OS on again. MBA gets lost loading OS ??
w' issue for no prompt for disc two! This leaves you with partial OS!!! Apple knows it is an problem now. MBA not as tight and tested as my other Apple products.
Oh, how I wish they had fire wire option! I have returned and will wait for issue to settle down. Neat box too many potholes. Have a good time reaching the MBA tech team.
I am new to mac, I have a macbook on 10.4.11 OS. I am unable to install any .pkg files, I tried to install a driver for wacom tablet ( I get the file from wacom website, apple site directed me to there), my laptop cant open the file, it gives no error code neither, it gives no respond no reaction to my click, double click and try to use open with "installer" move. I did check, in my utility dir there is a installer, but I dont know why it cant install/pkg files for me. I also checked crash reporter under log, there is no crash report log for installer. Same story happens to canon printer driver .pkg file too. I also lose the disks went with laptop so I may have difficult to reinstall the system.

Having some issues with MBP (slow performance, Oulook issues, etc.), attempting to resolve by repairing disk permissions and repairing disk. Disk Utility returns the following: Incorrect number of extended attributes(It should be 390460 instead of 390459) The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.Error: This disk needs to be repaired. ...then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD" This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. So, I was unable to find my OE cd's. I purchased the SL Replacement Install DVD from apple and attempted to boot from it. Holding c or option during startup to attempt to boot from DVD were unfruitful. Computer hangs on Apple logo, allowed to sit for 20+ minutes with no progress. DVD spins up and can hear it, then stops. SuperDrive works fine when booted and can read DVD no problem. Reset PRAM during startup successfully, hold c or option and no luck - still hangs. What more can I do?
