IMac :: Installed Open Office - Start Screen Icons Stacked
Sep 24, 2009I got the Agua version and I'm on the newest version of Snow Leopard. I would post a screen shot if I knew how to. But when I open OpenOffice in Applications you get the start screen where you usually get to choose between the different programs. First of all on the text "Welcome to openoffice", the bottom half of "Welcome to" is missing. And then all the icons below are kind of stacked onto each other so you can only access some of them and its impossible to see what the icons does, cause the text for them also run into each other.

Mar 30, 2012Is there a way to add programs to the Open With Menu.For example, when you right click on a file you can choose to open it with the default application by selecting Open, or choose other programs to open it with by selecting Open With.Only a few of the programs that can open the files are listed.Is there a way to add programs that I use to list in that list.Right now, everytime I want to open something in a program that is not listed I have to go to Other... and find it in the Application folder. Which is not too convenient.Many programs that I use to open files are not listed for many types of file types, I open them frequently using the Open... window, and I was hoping that Mac would learn to add them, but it did not.
For example, I have VMWare with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 in it, my default application for WORD documents is Word for Mac 2011, but occasionally I need to open it in Word 2010 in Windows (Certain features that are missing in Mac Word), and I have to browse to fin the Word 2010 Application from the Application Folder.Another example is a program (from the App Store) called ResizeIt (which resizes photos), I have to browse for it everytime even though it is an application just for images.So, is there a way to edit the Open With Menu for specific file types to include these programs that I use, or do I have to keep browsing to the Application folder and finding it there?

May 9, 2012After install of OSX Lion (from Snow Leopard). I receive every 10 seconds a message: "Cannot open program ExpressAccountsAgent, because PowerPC-programs are no longer supported". I deinstalled this program with Mackeeper, without result. The message shows every 10 seconds. Is it possible to block this message?

Mar 25, 2010I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

Feb 20, 2010I purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?

May 30, 2012When I open applications now, whatever windows were open when I quit now re-open. When I'm done with a window, I'm done! I don't want to see all the browser windows or word processing windows or whatever I was last working on. When I quit, I expect it to quit - close all windows and exit the program. When I re-launch the program, I want to start over fresh. Is this something that can be set? Or do I just have to close all the windows before quitting?

Jun 20, 2012my Mac has recently been playing up. The other day I turned it on to find just a white screen so I rebooted it though safe mode. Since then i have not been able to conduct sofware updates / save microsoft office files / install any programmes. When I try to conduct software updates I get the following - 'None of the selected updates could be saved. You don’t have permission.'I have checked my permissions and they all look fine.Â
When I try to open or safe a word file i get - 'Word could not create the work file. check the amount of disk space on your startup disk' I have 19.87 GB available on my HD. When i try to install a programme such as ViursBarrierX6 I get this - ' The Installation failed' 'The installer can't creat the folder "/var/folder/qg/11kx8p703n9cx4zpp27vhm0000gn/T/intsall.12034Cd49UU". Jan 17, 2010Newbie from windows to Mac SL. I download two programs for my Cannon scanner and found them installed in Applications. I created a new folder called Cannon and moved both programs into it. In the folder, there is now a file called "Open in Finder" as well which I did not add.
Question.
1. Is it ok to move files into a new folder this way?
2. Is it normal to have "Open in Finder" also inserted in the folder?
Reason I am asking is, when I initially run the scanner program I get this multiple colour ball momentarily. It is almost as if the OS is looking for the location of the scanner program - similar to an hour glass in windows. Therefore, should I delete the folder I created and reinstall the scanner programs? If so, should I delete the programs first, then the folder, or go ahead and delete the folder with the programs in it?

1. I went into system preferences into User/Groups, logins and deleted all items. Â
2. Hovered over the word in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, clicked options, unchecked open at login. (I have been closing down the application before loging off) Â Â
Other than that I am not sure how to stop these from opening.

It gives me 2 (or three) of the "dial tone" beeps, the light flashes on and off and the only thing running would be the fan, running at an ultra high speed.I did install the correct modules, which are 2 x 1gb 184 pin DDR PC3200 400mhz ones, but I realize that they are high density ones. Jul 10, 2010I have spaces enabled and most apps are set to a specific screen (iTunes in 2, Mail in 3, etc.) but when I'm in space 1 and I want to open itunes, I click the icon and it pulls me into space 2, as opposed to leaving me in space 1.
Is there any way to set the apps to just open in the background without becoming the active app, thus pulling me into a different screen.
