MacBook :: Software Updates Or New Programs To Be Installed?

my Mac has recently been playing up. The other day I turned it on to find just a white screen so I rebooted it though safe mode. Since then i have not been able to conduct sofware updates / save microsoft office files / install any programmes. When I try to conduct software updates I get the following - 'None of the selected updates could be saved. You don’t have permission.'I have checked my permissions and they all look fine.
When I try to open or safe a word file i get - 'Word could not create the work file. check the amount of disk space on your startup disk' I have 19.87 GB available on my HD. When i try to install a programme such as ViursBarrierX6 I get this - ' The Installation failed' 'The installer can't creat the folder "/var/folder/qg/11kx8p703n9cx4zpp27vhm0000gn/T/intsall.12034Cd49UU". '

Every time my Mac checks for updates, it finds about 1.2gig of new instruments for Garageband and an iWeb update, but I don't use these and don't want to waste bandwidth on them. how to exclude these without always having to de-select them when downloading updates.

I have a MacBook with OS X 10.5 and I was looking at some of the updates I had installed and wanted to delete some that were irrelevant and that I shouldn't have installed in the first place. Somehow I deleted everything in the "Installed Updates" list, I know they are still on the computer because when I check for updates nothing new shows up. Is there any way to repopulate this list with the updates I have installed and is there anyway to remove the ones that I downloaded too hastily or should I just carry on since it is not a major issue? Of course I did not have Time Machine up and running yet.

I am trying to update my MacMini from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 and I am not able to. The user account I am trying to do it from is an admin account. I currently have 4 other updates and I am not able to install any of them and they are listed below.
Airport utility 6.1
Digitial Camera Raw Compatability update 3.13
iTunes 10.6.3
Java for OS X 2012-004 1.0
Here is a copy and paste from my Console install.log only trying to install the Airport Utility and Digital Camera Raw updates. All others were doing the same as these.

I purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?

Is there a way to copy pre-installed software? I purchased an iMac from someone on craigslist and it came pre-installed with Adobe CS3 and Aperture, but no discs. I wanted to somehow put those programs on my macbook pro as well. Is there any way to do this without the discs? I tried copying the actual program files but it didn't work.

I installed the software updates pushed to me the week of May 7, 2012 (installed them May 12th) and now cannot open certain web pages (examples www.cnn.com and www.ancestry.com) but am able to open others (ex. www.harrynorman.com). I installed an update to safari, one for security and another I cannot recall. Rebooted (twice) and still having the same problem. I have a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7.

My computer keeps notifying me that updates available when they've already been installed and are listed as installed.
The Command Line Tools, for instance, are listed as installed a half dozen times or so, yet it's cosnattly being offered as an available update. The list of updates available for the computer keeps growing, but they're all installed. Update All or Update will run and go through the process, but the list never clears.
How do I get Updates to work properly and recognize what updates are already installed?

When I install an update via Software Update, the installation appears in System Preferences/Software Update/Installed Updates, but then permanently disappears after a period of time. Same issue in Software Update.log.Is this normal?

Newbie from windows to Mac SL. I download two programs for my Cannon scanner and found them installed in Applications. I created a new folder called Cannon and moved both programs into it. In the folder, there is now a file called "Open in Finder" as well which I did not add.
Question.
1. Is it ok to move files into a new folder this way?
2. Is it normal to have "Open in Finder" also inserted in the folder?
Reason I am asking is, when I initially run the scanner program I get this multiple colour ball momentarily. It is almost as if the OS is looking for the location of the scanner program - similar to an hour glass in windows. Therefore, should I delete the folder I created and reinstall the scanner programs? If so, should I delete the programs first, then the folder, or go ahead and delete the folder with the programs in it?

When I open my laptop occasionally it has obviously recognized updates and gives me the option to install, I click yes or ok can't remember. When I do it asks me to restart, which I do.When I restart it appears as if it never installed the updates?? When I go to system preferences and check to see installed updates it does not appear to be there?

For whatever reason, when I installed Snow Leopard it did not automatically install the updates for the printer drivers already installed in my computer.
I then tried to manually install the printer drivers using the SL disk and still no luck. The printers that I use are both wireless and work when they are connected with USB. Am I missing something? I'm reading all over about how people have made the upgrade with no problems at all so I'm there's got to be something I'm not doing.

When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.

On my MacBookPro, 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1.5 GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.11, all rosetta emulated applications as Apple Works 6, Toast 6, Microsoft Office 2004, PhotoshopElements 3 and so on, suddenly have stopped working. A short flash of the program symbols ist all I get when I try starting one of them. Everything has been fine for the last three years!Before that, I noticed that I could not install the Security Update 2008-007 Intel, no matter if by software update or manually (for the download version I get only an error notice that the checksum failed, when I try to activate the .dmg). Other Apple software updates were installed without any problems.

I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

So a while back I had final cut pro installed, and eventually deleted cause I no longer needed it. I used AppCleaner when removing to try and make sure I got it all.
Well every time I do a software update it wants to install "Pro Applications Update" and "Prokit Updates" Which are updates for final cut pro and its related apps.
Any idea how I can stop it from wanting me to install these updates for something I no longer have?

Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
