Specifically, things like iWeb*, iTunes**, GarageBand, iDVD, iMovie, all that shite, that I will never ever use? Or are there dependencies that aren't immediately obvious?PS. Before anyone says "but you NEED these programs!"
View 16 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I have to install some applications via MacPort, such like ImageMagick, however, I saw other applications(e.g. vi, vim, etc) also available via macport, there are already built-in programs like vi, if I install something via macport which are already built-in, will there be any problem or the newer ones just overwrite old ones?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?
View 11 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to copy pre-installed software? I purchased an iMac from someone on craigslist and it came pre-installed with Adobe CS3 and Aperture, but no discs. I wanted to somehow put those programs on my macbook pro as well. Is there any way to do this without the discs? I tried copying the actual program files but it didn't work.

my Mac has recently been playing up. The other day I turned it on to find just a white screen so I rebooted it though safe mode. Since then i have not been able to conduct sofware updates / save microsoft office files / install any programmes. When I try to conduct software updates I get the following - 'None of the selected updates could be saved. You don’t have permission.'I have checked my permissions and they all look fine.Â
When I try to open or safe a word file i get - 'Word could not create the work file. check the amount of disk space on your startup disk' I have 19.87 GB available on my HD. When i try to install a programme such as ViursBarrierX6 I get this - ' The Installation failed' 'The installer can't creat the folder "/var/folder/qg/11kx8p703n9cx4zpp27vhm0000gn/T/intsall.12034Cd49UU". I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new 21.5" iMac and have been playing around with everything. When I started two weeks ago I had an Apps folder with the Apps logo on the dock to the right of the dotted separation. All the applications are there lined up with the first application showing but for my consternation I cannot put the Applications in there folder like it was when I started out two weeks ago. This is the Snow Leopard OS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedNewbie from windows to Mac SL. I download two programs for my Cannon scanner and found them installed in Applications. I created a new folder called Cannon and moved both programs into it. In the folder, there is now a file called "Open in Finder" as well which I did not add.
Question.
1. Is it ok to move files into a new folder this way?
2. Is it normal to have "Open in Finder" also inserted in the folder?
Reason I am asking is, when I initially run the scanner program I get this multiple colour ball momentarily. It is almost as if the OS is looking for the location of the scanner program - similar to an hour glass in windows. Therefore, should I delete the folder I created and reinstall the scanner programs? If so, should I delete the programs first, then the folder, or go ahead and delete the folder with the programs in it?
I accidentally dropped my "Applications Folder" off my Dock when I first got my Mac and it disappeared. When I put it back by dragging the applications folder onto the Dock, instead of assuming the Applications Folder logo, it took on the logo of the first application in my Applications Folder: the Address book. Now, my desktop permanantly has the picture of the Address Book instead of the picture of the Applications Folder.
How do I fix this? ive followed other thread advice with no luck. Is there a way to re-set the Dock? Where does the logo live and how do I get it back there?

I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 on an iMac 27" mid 2011. If I run OS X Recovery on my system just to wipe everything clean and start fresh. Will I also loose all my other Apps and installed software like MS Office, Adobe CS6, etc. etc.? If so, how can I do a system recovery without losing all my current apps or programs. I don't have any of the original disks.

i have some programs from my previously migrated macbook data and new programs that yield the 'cannot support power pcs apps' error.does that mean i cannot use these programs ever? is there a fix, ie installing new stuffit expander to run an .exe file?i really cannot believe apple would reduce so much functionality with the new operating system.

I am running a fresh install of OSX Snow Leopard, and have been trying to install some the of the fonts I was using before using Font Book. The fonts are being added successfully and validating and are enabled. They are not showing up in any of my apps however, whether that be Photoshop, or OpenOffice etc. It seems that all types of fonts have issues, Opentype, TTF, etc.

I notice that any new apps I try and install aren't launching.I tried to install the 30 day trial of Textmate and when clicking on App in Applications folder the icon just bounces on the dock permenantly.Clicking it again makes it disapear form the dock. I then tried to install BetterTouchTool and when I click on that absolutely nothing happens.Any apps installed prior open up fine.I did a Repair Disk and Disk Permissions, but nothing.I know it may be a loaded question potentially based on other apps I have installed, but hoping someone else has encountered and can at least point me on the right track.

I have a lot of apps that were already on my computer before the App Store came out (i.e. Evernote, iWork). However, the App Store never picks up that they're already installed. It would be great if the App store could see that type of thing. Does it? If so, how do I get it to scan for previously installed apps so that it knows what to look for when there are updates or upgrades?

This is likely a Snow Leopard issue, but since it's happening on my Macbook....
Icons are (mostly) not displaying. In Finder my /Applications folder is ok, but anything new I install into it will have a name but no icon. In /Applications/Utilities no icons are showing My dock is ok, so far at least. On my Desktop (my default folder for downloads) anything downloaded will have a name but no icon. When installing a new program no icon for the app displays, just the name.
When I install new applications on my MacBook Pro, the icons are missing and instead, showing the generic "App" icon.Â

I have an iMac that is less than a year old and I have very few applications installed other than what comes on it. I recently received a message that my startup disk was almost full. I keep all of my media on an external drive, have an apple time machine that stores the backups. I purchased the Space Gremlin and there is nothing on the hard drive that shows it's taking up that much space. The 500 GB hard drive shows only 11 GB free.

Some weeks ago, I installed OS X Yosemite, as shown on my App Store, that was a "System Update available for my IMac 2009". Followed all the steps, normally and installed it as I did many other times ago (with the Maverick, Mountain Lion, OS X).Â
Just after the installation, I noticed that every single folder or program that depends on "Apple", stopped working.Â
Examples: Office package opens normally, so as Firefox. But, IPhoto, ITunes, Safari and App Store itself do not.
When trying to reinstall Yosemite or return to the one I had before, using App Store became impossible. Even the "Apple Icon" on the top left corner does not work. I click, it flashes, just IF it was ready to open, but nothing happens, seams that have something stopping the "loading process" of the software.

I have a 500 GB harddrive but only a 250 Gigabyte external. I was wondering if I could set it so that time machine only backs up stuff that I think is important rather than my entire laptop.
