View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed a program on my 2008 Mac Pro (Mavericks) called CyberViewX, which is an application for a 35mm film scanner I recently purchased, a PrimeFilm XE. The program is actually installed in the TWAIN directory tree on the Mac. (Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources)
When I log on to a "regular" admin level account (that is, the account does have administrative privileges) the program will not run; it thinks for a bit, and then says "please run as administrator"
If I open a terminal window, drill down to the program executable (it's actually buried quite deeply in the application's directory tree, but no matter), and run the program with a sudo command (sudo ./CyberViewX) and enter my admin password when prompted, the program runs fine.
Is there an easier way to do this - that is, to have the program always run with "administrator" privileges, so I don't get the error message. If nothing else, the program is also invoked by other software that came with the scanner; these programs will not work, because they use CyberViewX to actually acquire images, and CyberViewX gives the same "Please run as administrator" error message .
If someone installs a spy-program locally on a computer, how would you go about finding it and/or rectifying the situation? A friend has reason to believe that someone installed software on their OS X computer to gather information. They may or may not have had the password, and she thinks they got on locally. How would she go about finding any such programs installed? She is reluctant to to a clean install (the only suggestion that I could think of).
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf a program can be installed without it asking for an admin password (similar to the way firefox can be installed: you just drag and drop into the applications folder and you're all set), then that program is usually safe, right?

This is what it said: "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges." I went to my account and successfully installed it. I went back to my daughter's and got the same message. I tried a google search and came up with things 6 years old...mostly dealing with printers.

So I downloaded an app from this site but I can't seem to find it, is it possible that I've contracted a phishing virus, if so what are the steps i should take to remove it? [URL]

I'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.
I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.
I purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed 2 ne w Optical drives in a 2008 3,1 MacPro Quadcore. After installation and booting up, the system profiler failed to show ANY optical drives and I was unabel to open/eject the drives naturally. I then unplugged the bottom one and rebooted and the top drive (still plugged in ) worked. I then shut down and unplugged the top drive and plugged in the bottom drive - rebooted and now the BOTTOM drive is recognized. When BOTH drives are plugged in , the system fails to show either of them.So when individually plugged in it's fine but when bith are plugged in neither of the drives are detected or operate.
View 5 Replies View Related I got my first iMac last week so I'm a newbie to OSx, however I've come across something.I've not been able to find an answer to via a search engine.I have a port open for the program 'Transmission' in my router's settings. I've tried several, and I've followed several different guides on how to do this, and yet it always tells me that the port is closed. Now, I know Mac has like infinitely better security than Windows does, but does it also mean that all the ports are going to be closed all the time? I have no idea, so I thought I'd ask here. It's a Netgear router, and I've followed a specific guide on it via. I've allowed the program to go through the Firewall too.
^^ Basically says it. I just installed Leopard today and plugged my touch in for the first time since then. Itunes won't detect my iPod though. iPhoto tries to import pictures from it and it charges but iTunes won't detect it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a 13" white MacBook that is about three years old. Recently, the Combo Drive stopped reading CD-Rs (possibly all discs in general, but I only ever use it to burn CDs, so I wouldn't have ever known), so I decided to try to install a new Super Drive myself.
Following a guide on [URL], I installed the new drive, but when I turned my computer back on, it was not recognizing the drive at all. System Profiler was saying "This system does not contain any ATA devices. If you have any ATA devices installed, check that they are connected and powered on." I was then able to reinstall my old Combo Drive, which my computer recognized immediately. Thinking that I may have just not connected something tightly the first time, I tried a second time. Same thing happened.
So, my question is, is there anything I may be missing or does this definitely mean the drive is defective? I just want to make sure I'm not sending back a functional drive before I go ahead and do so.
I'm experiencing some issue when I tried to reinstall my OS. It just keeps prompting me Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. You have to use your Time Machine to restore..... etc. But its a brand new hard disk. I have also tried using another hard disk. Its just keep prompting the same error.I also have deleted and recreate with 2 partitions, but problem still surface. Deleted and Erase at Utilities- Disk Utility, also can't help.

I had to replace a dead hard drive on my old 2007 iMac. Now I am unable to install Office 2011 on an iMac that had this version of office before the old HD died. I know there are restrictions on the number of installations. Must I purchase Office 2011 again or is there another legal option?

I recently installed Norton AntiVirus and think it may have changed a setting that I couldn't find. I uninstalled Norton and it didn't help. Every time I open Safari, iTunes or any other program that tries to connect to the Internet, it crashes. Strangely enough, Skype still works, but nothing else. I have OSx 10.6.8. I have tried erasing plists, and all the standard troubleshooting, ie resetting modem, restarting computer, reloading Safari from disk.

For the past year or more, every time that a program crashes while I'm working in it, it gives me a dialog box saying "Would you like to submit report details to Apple?" I click the button to submit the report and every time it returns with an error message saying "Submission failed - Unable to submit report". Its not a big deal to me, but I always thought it might be helpful to Apple to receive the reports. Always worked a in the years past, but not any more.

I've just bought a new MacBook Pro, it came last week (or perhaps the week before) with 10.5.7 and I immediately bought the upgrade to 10.6. It seemed a little buggy, but nothing I could put my finger on, but this morning I couldn't start - just the apple and spinning wheel. The only thing I've done since my last restart is install software for mobile broadband usb.
I can't reinstall my system software because it's "old" (ie 10.5.7 and I've installed 10.6).
