PowerPC :: Using IBook - Programs Won't Load
Apr 14, 2008When i click on a program out of the dock, it appears in the dock, bounces, then disappears. If it's inside the dock, i click it, it bounces, then just stops.

Feb 19, 2008My computer crashed and when I started to re-install my OS two things happen. Either I get a disk error message or it starts to load the OS but a third the way in the screen goes blue and freezes. I've run disk utility and hardware test and both comes back ok.

PowerPC :: IBook Display Stopped Working / Boot IBook Via Target Disk Mode?
Aug 13, 2010I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
Software :: Ibook G4 Will Not Load?
Sep 26, 2010I just purchased a used ibook g4 running 10.5.7 was running last night and now it will not boot past the apple logo and spinning wheel then goes to black screen and starts loading again. ibook will start up in single user mode and was able to run.

Oct 20, 2006My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.

Jul 13, 2008Right now I have a G3 iBook (900 MHz, 640 MB RAM, Combodrive, 40 GB HDD). I'm looking at a G4 iBook (1.2 GHz, 768 MB RAM, Superdrive, 60 GB HDD).
How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?

Apr 19, 2009I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.

Software :: IBook G4 Wont Boot - Load The Partition With All Files
Jul 28, 2008About 2 weeks ago I overwrited some files on my ibook. Since I had no data recovery software for macs, i used easy recovery pro and connected the laptop hard drive to my windows box.Once I had it connected, windows asked me to initialise the hard drive and without even thinking about it I said yes.I did raw(sector by sector) recovery and managed to find a few files. The problem is that now the ibook wont boot no matter what i try. I have tried using disk warrior and repaired the file system.Also when I start it in firewire disk mode and connect it to another macbook, it will load the partition with all the files inside it. So the files are there but it will not allow me to boot the OS.

What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?

Nov 5, 2006What I used to love about my Powerbook G4 is that it's pretty much silent, unless I happen to be burning something, or running several programs at once. However, this appears to be a thing of the past, as I've begun to notice that the fan is now permanently whizzing, and while it's not loud, it's anything but silent. This happens constantly, while I'm running minimal programs, and while my computer is sitting on my desk, not on any soft surfaces.

Feb 20, 2010I purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?

It used to have AppleWorks on it, but since I've reinstalled 10.3, it's no longer there. (I did a clean install.) Is there an option for it? NeoOffice has a 512mb Ram requirement that isn't going to be met by this machine. Also, the internet runs rather slow on it. They have a 1.5 megabit connection. Would it be better to run it under 10.2?
PowerPC :: G4 With Leopard 10.5 - Programs Terminate Unexpectedly
Nov 12, 2009I completely rebuilt an old G4 Power Mac: Upgraded the system firmware. The problem is that applications like Itunes, Safari, etc, crash, they "Terminate Unexpectedly" after 5 mins or so. I have removed all PCI cards except the ATI Rage 128 Video card and it still happens. So, I have three thoughts:
1) The programs in 10.5 were written to run on Intel, and there is no hope.
2) Some piece of hardware in the G4 is causing the crashing.
3) The Rage 128 is the only original piece of hardware left....could the Rage firmware be causing the problem?
I don't have another MAC video card to try. Is there a way to upgrade the firmware in the Rage 128? I looked all over the net but could not find any.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Open PowerPC Programs - No Longer Supported
May 9, 2012After install of OSX Lion (from Snow Leopard). I receive every 10 seconds a message: "Cannot open program ExpressAccountsAgent, because PowerPC-programs are no longer supported". I deinstalled this program with Mackeeper, without result. The message shows every 10 seconds. Is it possible to block this message?

Feb 7, 2009After re-opening that giant graphite egg, re-plugging in the cd drive and making sure all of the wires were properly plugged in too, and getting a new kind of hate inside of me for apples quality of construction, I have gotten the disc drive reading again. However it will still not boot off cd.
I just want to upgrade to tiger and it won't let me do so, I can't even find the CD drive in the boot options. but the strange thing is that the os x tiger cd is selectable in the startup disk options, but on boot with the boot menu it does not show up.
is there anything i can do (preferably without spending any money, or very little) or am I stuck with os x 10.3.9 for the rest of my life?
also I'd like to do a clean boot, after all I bought the computer used, and it has a bunch of junk files on it that I'm too lazy to search for and destroy myself.
plus the thing still thinks its named after the school that used to own it, and I'd like it not to.

Oct 22, 2006For the first time ever, my Titanium Powerbook won't load OSX. I was using Excel when the beach ball started spinning. I've had that happen, so I just went to force quit. It wouldn't force quit for me. So I let it sit a while and tried again. Again, it wouldn't force quit. So I tried to Restart the Mac. It restarted, but when it did, I don't see the OSX load screen. I get a blue screen with the spinning lines, but that's it.

Jul 3, 2008I have currently acquired a few old Macs. I have got an iMac G3 SE with a slot loading drive. The computer is fine all barr the slot load drive - it has died. I have also got a PPC Mac Mini with a suggested logic board failure.
Does anybody think there is a chance i could replace the broken slot load drive in the iMac with the working one from the mac mini? i don't want to start opening the iMac up if someone already knows theres no chance it would work.

Nov 9, 2008It just came to my mind that at some storage place of mine, I have an old special edition (grey) iBook that i bought in 1999, if I remember correctly. Can't look it up right now, but I think it had one USB port, one ethernet port, a CD-ROM drive, and it was running OS9.
Is anyone of you still using old iBooks, and what for? Would a version (which?) of OS X run, or would you suggest staying with OS9? Kind of sad to have it just laying around - it was amazing, back in the days.
