I recently downloaded the Darwin Ports package from the website and ran it, the install reads that everything installed correctly, and the website informed me that once the process was complete, I should run sudo port -d selfupdate, however, all I'm getting is an error that reads "sudo: ports: command not found".

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am not a huge Mac guy, but have to use them at work? Our Mac Pro lacks enough firewire ports for the configuration I need to do. So I guess I need to get a firewire 800 card and it will only be used in conjunction with out AJA unit (HD video production), so if it has one or four ports it doesn't really matter. Anyone have a brand or specific card they prefer?

Now I was trying to get the AMD kernel for my hp in my office, but i ran into a little trouble. 2 days ago, I backed up my mac with time machine. Anyway, I was messing around with it, and I guess it thought my mac was a hackintosh, and it came with that nice wonderful welcome screen movie when u first get ur mac when I logged out. I had typed up a letter to a pen pal for school earlier, and hadnt backed up since before that letter. So I went into my windows 7 partition, and I tried to access my files from there, but when I went into macintosh hd, users, my account, it said there weren't any files. Now this means that this hackintosh kernel deleted my mac account.
Anyway I booted from the disk and it took an extremely long time to boot, and it take an extremely long time to boot into macintosh hd. Now if any of you are familiar with reinstalling the windows bootloader on a pc using vista or 7, then you might be able to relate. I kinda need the mac version of that boot into disk go to command prompt and type
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
to reinstall the Darwin Bootloader. It takes like 3 minutes to get off the apple logo, and before it took like 30 seconds.
I'm interested in running a Darwin OS, basically just the open source parts of Mac OS X. There isn't a whole lot of recent information that I've been able to find on my own. Seems like most sources top out at Darwin 8.

It didn't crash or anything.When I go to log in to OS X it takes me directly to the Darwin Unix window and asks me to log in there.and into the computer.If I type in (exit) it takes me right back to the same place.I put in the Panther install disc (held down the c key) and selected to boot up on system 9.9.2 so I can use the computer and research online.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe weirdest thing has happened to my MacBook. It was running a little slow today so I restarted it thinking it would help clear out the memory and whatnot. When I restarted it, everything seemed normal. It makes the classic "mac soud" and shows the apple with the circular loading wheel. It then goes to the login screen, just as it normally does. However, once it goes to the login screen, the spinning beachball comes up and it freezes temporarily. This is when it starts to get bad. The screen then goes black and comes up with white letters saying: Darwin/BSD (my name's Computer.) (console) login: sometimes, I have time to type in my username and password, sometimes not. Either way, the following comes up: disk0s2: 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED)
it then goes back to the login screen, which completly freezes every time. I am completly frustrated and terrified that I will not be able to access my data, which includes over 2 years of music, pictures etc. that have not been backed up. Does anyone know what is going on with my MacBook?
Can't get back to my desk top. All I have is a black screen with white text starting Darwin bsd. Have tried a safe reboot but after grey then normal blue screen when loading, this disappears and I get back to the black screen again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo (first generation of MacBook Pro released). I run OSX 10.6.5. My disk utility has detected a problem and says I need the install disks that came with the computer. Called apple and they said I could reboot from snow leopard or the upgrade.** Problem is that I don't have any disks with me except those that came with my brand new iMac. Can I use those to reinstall the system? Is there any other way?
**They also said that after 2007, the install disks that come with computers are keyed to that specific computer so I "might" not be able to use the disk to repair.
Additionally, and I don't know if this makes a difference but I have the airport/time capsule which backs up my computer for easy restore.
I have bought a used Macbook Intel 2.2Ghz 250Gb with 2GB RAM running Snow Leopard. It didn't come with system discs. I have a similar Macbook with a 160Gb HD running 10.5,8 and I have swapped the HDs over. Both machines are running fine. I now wish to reinstall 10.5 on the 160GB HD but when I use my original 10.5.6 system discs it says that OSX cannot be run on this machine.

SL seems to have changed the RAM management quite a bit. I don't know if it's the video memory that is causing SL to slow down the whole system so much that it has to page out each and every newly opened Safari tab or PS document to HDD. Here is a screen shot of the RAM usage: In other words, the page-outs are taking place even despite the supposed FREE Inactive RAM...

Is there any difference whether or not the boot system (including applications, etc.) for your computer was put in place by their installers or made from a (backed up) clone or copy of that system? I suppose it doesn't since people clone their drives all the time. I sort of remember from pre osx days of an installed system being ~blessed~, if I remember the vernacular correctly. I just got a Mac G4 tower from a doctor I work with. He needed me to delete the whole hard drive before I took it. I booted off the OSX tiger DVD and wiped the drive with no problems, (I even booted it off the DVD the next day, to show my friend that the drive was wiped), but now that I have it home I am unable to boot from the OSX DVD. It shows the apple screen with the apple logo and the spinning... whatever you call it..... but then the screen just goes black after a minute or two. Have ejected the DVD, and retried, Zapped the PRAM by using control opt P+R and by unplugging the G4 and pushing the PMU button next to the battery.

This machine WILL NOT ALLOW an Install Boot from ANYTHING other than the Jaguar CD. Screen "blinks" when I attempt to use Sys Pref to designate the 10.4 DVD ... Holding down "C" key is a waste, PRAM & NVRAM have been attempted. Re-installing the 10.2 OS still has the SAME RESULT: Machine refuses ANY Sys Pref Startup OTHER than 10.2 ... PERIOD ... Just get a "blink" on the display, no Error Msg, just a blink .I've erased, zeroed & formatted the 80GB HD, matching RAM (4 X 256MB) ... so I'm pretty sure I need to get this "Firmware" thing resolved so the logic board stops being ILLOGICAL ... or ... is it IMPOSSIBLE to go from 10.2 direct to 10.4? Again, Machine info is;400 MHz PPC G4 Silver 1 MB RAM, with a CLEAN 80GB HD As far as OTHER Posts have indicated, I need to download & run the 4.1.7 firmware ... it is VERY DIFFICULT to find ANYWHERE that is governed by Cupertino ...

How to install OS9 on a Lombard Powerbook with OSX 10.4 ? When I insert the OS9 CD and double click install I get a message telling me that Classic does not work. I don't want that. I try to start up holding down the C key but disk just spins away and does nothing.
